Off the high street: Hanoi's boutique charm - SilverKris

"Born from a desire to preserve traditional papermaking, this cosy one-room shop — founded by Tran Hong Nhung and operating in its current location since 2016 — showcases products made from Do tree bark using age-old techniques. The range includes practical stationery like notebooks and calendars as well as whimsical items such as handheld fans, watercolour postcards, earrings and lampshades, with paper art spilling out onto the pavement. The founder works with papermaking villages (notably in Bac Ninh Province), runs village tours to connect artisans with buyers, and focuses on design innovation and sustainable, social-business practices that appeal to younger Hanoians." - Joshua Zukas

I had the opportunity to meet the founder and had an inspiring conversation. I also did the workshop of notebiding, and it was quite funny and interesting. The workshop in Hanoi has a little museum, interesting and cute. And the workshop in ecoparck is really cozy and the area is perfect to spend the day near nature. I recommend doing this kind of activity because you can get closer to Vietnamese culture and tradition. It's something precious to take care of. Thank you, please keep showing the way to build a world more connected with our essence that's love and empathy!

A remakable find to brighten the day. This little compound houses a number of gem, stone, and other craft shops and workshops around a courtyard. This handmade paper shop is right at the back. It is staffed by kind, friendly volunteers who help sell a wide range of handmade papers. I asked for paper to make a lantern and they knew what to suggest. The paper I purchased was 150000VD per sheet; a fair price. The staff let me find a sheet with no crease and they rolled it carefully in brown paper. Before you exit the property be sure to check out the small museum to paper making, it's really quite informatIve and free. I highly recommend supporting these artisans.

An organization that make great work and revives the culture of paper in Vietnam. In the shop you can find paper objects as well as excellent quality paper for printmaking. From time to time they organize events focuses on paper. I recommend a visit to both, the shop and the gallery they have.

Like a museum show the traditional job of making the Vietnamese dó paper which is iconic to Bưởi village. It would be a lot nicer with more care in here. We came in and this place is empty, no visitor, lack of information and interaction

It says here that they are open Everyday (except Monday) from 8am to 5:30pm. I came yesterday (Friday 3pm) to buy some things from their shop, closed. Okay, some Guy told me they would be open today, this morning. I’m happy to come, but no, closed again. I called them they made me wait 40min and still nobody. I doubt anyone’s ever coming to keep this shop open.

Cutest little artist shop. Cool prints. Worth a visit. NOTE: you have to walk the train tracks to get to the shop. If the guard does not let you through, try to contact / call the shop and they will pick you up.

I am giving 5 stars because in my opinion, this is a cause worth supporting. I’d recommend you read my whole review to make your experience smoother. The product is very nice. The quality of the paper is superior and I like the idea of preserving the traditional crafts! The art is quite nice. To be honest, the Hanoi shop has a bit less of a selection than I expected, but I was able to find a few beautiful pieces that I am excited to frame at home! Accessing the shop can be challenging. Not only is it a bit off the beaten path (more on that below), but they don’t have regular opening hours at the time of writing my review. In my case, the shop owner was helpful once I reached out and arranged for her staff to be there when we arrived, but we didn’t know the store wouldn’t be open the first time we made the trip. I suggest you reach out through social media and arrange a time for your visit. The location - renting a motorbike and enjoying a ride around the lake to the shop is the method of access I’d highly recommend. The shop is in a very peaceful compound adjacent to a museum that shows the paper making process. All in all, you should connect with the owner if you want to support this social enterprise - I think it’s worth it!

Beautiful shop with a very friendly young girl behind the counter. Bit more expensive than other souvenir shops but the quality and paper story is worth it! I bought some earrings (190K) as a present. And some postcards (50K each, pack of 4 for 180K) which are much better quality than the standard souvenir shops! If you want to organise a workshop, I’d recommend contacting the as early as possible. I left it too late. Definitely worth a visit whilst visiting train street
