The Best Mexican Food in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Chef Edgar Caro channels Mexico City in Old Metairie at the ever-elegant Zocalo, with its large selection of mezcal and fresh fruit margaritas. Caro explores a broad spectrum of Mexican food from salsa macha made with peanuts to posole, flautas, birria tacos, duck enmoladas, and yellowfin tuna tostadas. Haven’t been? Try the restaurant on Taco Tuesdays for $2.50 tacos and two-for-one house and frozen margaritas." - Beth D’Addono

Zócalo Mexican Restaurant Opens in Old Metairie | Eater New Orleans

"I noted that Edgar Caro, the restaurateur behind Brasa Churrascería, Barutapas, and Basin Louisiana seafood, has opened Zócalo with Antonio Mata on Metairie Road a few doors down from Brasa; Caro is originally from Columbia and Mata is originally from El Salvador, and they’re exploring a broader spectrum of Mexican food there, from salsa made with peanuts to posole and flautas. The space, which had been occupied by Vega Tapas for two decades, has been fully renovated, and it's open Tuesday through Sunday for dinner with plans to add lunch and happy hour soon." - Stephanie Carter

Google
So glad that I found this place. The food was great, the vibe was very inviting (especially for a date), and the prices were very reasonable. Can't wait to come back.

Google
Honestly cannot say enough good things. Everything tastes so fresh and flavorful. Best guacamole I have ever had. Cocktails are just perfection. Probably the best Margarita I have ever had, too. Super fresh ingredients, which is something that is very important to me. I crave this place weekly!

Google
The Cinco Mayo Spot! And one of the most Fancy Mexican spot in town! This place has my heart! It has the best margaritas in town! Their coconut 🥥 margarita is something else! To pair with that they have one of the best skirt steak in town! Their enchiladas divorciadas with red and green sauce are perfect! They also unique “Corn Rib” dish that is a must! And to make things even better all their staff are extremely welcoming and friendly!

Google
We live in the area and would eat here occasionally and we also go to Felipe's. We like that they have a play area for the kids. I got tired of the menu (kinda Chipotle, but better). We started going back to Zocalo and tried different things on the menu. This was a game changer. We found some items that our kids love. So, we have been coming frequently (once a week) Our kids are loud so we go at slower times, early. LOL. Anyway, it seems we have such a success these days. I recommend the grilled Shrimp and we never leave without eating Plantains and getting one to take home.

Google
Nice atmosphere, yet this newer restaurant still needs some tweaking… the potential is there! The chips were very stale. They brought us less stale chips. Yet, our entrees were absolutely delicious!!! Perhaps removing wires that are literally hanging over a table (see pic) would help, along with fresh, hot crispy chips. Service was a bit slow. I’m thrilled they had a menu, although it was very hard to read, even with glasses.

Kerington F.

Google
Overall experience was bad, specifically wouldn’t recommend based off their service. Food came out fast however took forever to for server to take our order. She was nice but didn’t seem like she wanted to deal with us. She never checked on us to ask if we needed anything or if everything looked right. Flavor was mid and portion size ok.

Kristin T.

Google
We went to Zocalo on a Monday night at 7 pm. After waiting 15 minutes for a server to acknowledge us, we ordered drinks and requested chips and salsa. She came back 10 minutes later and told us they were out of chips and salsa, then that they didn't have what was needed to make one of the drinks we ordered. A Mexican restaurant was OUT of chips and salsa! Our entrees were fine, no complaints there. However, it took a while to get our check. I had to find our waitress who was sitting down scrolling social media on her phone. They double charged one of the credit cards and had issues trying to fix that. We have had issues with service at this restaurant in the past and decided that we will not be back.

Google
Very nice experience today. The margaritas were very very nice and...was able to get one spicy, thanks! My wife had the camarones diablo with some pinto beans and I had the brisket enchiladas with rice and beans. All of the flavors were fantastic but the brisket could have been a little more tender for my taste. Thank you for a delicious early dinner. The Giaccones

Yelp
Tried Zocalo for the first time last night and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Although, I didn't drink. They were offering bottomless margaritas for their house margaritas. A deal they have every Thursday! I ordered three tacos (two fish and one shrimp). These tacos were delicious with the shrimp being my favorite. The batter was crispy and the shrimp was delicious paired with the mango salsa and sweet chili glaze. The tacos were three for $19 and came with beans and rice. Overall, a great meal. I am always looking for more Mexican restaurants and this one will definitely be added to my list. I will be back for the tacos and margaritas!

Tiffany M.

Yelp
A 3 star only because the watermelon margarita was really really good. Food was just ehhhh in my opinion.

Yelp
Delicious food and great ambiance. Friendly waitstaff. Larger parties recommend a reservation.

Yelp
Visited Zocalo for Taco Tuesday and they had some of the best tacos I've ever eaten! The 2.50 tacos are a great deal so I tired 4 tacos. The tinga and chorizo tacos were my favorite! I originally ordered 3 tacos but had to ask for 1 more! We did get the mango guac an an app and although it was small and did not come with chips, the tacos made up for it! My friend also has a seafood allergy so we got some bell peppers to use as chips. They had some of the best bell peppers I've ever put in my mouth!! They were so fresh -- crunchy and full of flavor! I will definitely recommend this place for tacos!!

M K.

Yelp
Found this cozy looking spot on Google, my fiance and I thought we would broaden our horizons and try something new. When we walked in,we weren't greeted and nobody was in sight. Double checked the sign did indeed say open. I attempted to get the attention of some staff in the back, was ignored. We gave it a few minutes to see if anyone else might walk in. The bar was unattended and a ipad is visible. If this was Nola, that iPad would have grown a pair of legs. It's unfortunate because this looks like such a beautiful spot and we were excited to try the margarita flight. Made our way across the street to Felipes. You have got to try the quesadilla fries.

Yelp
Located off old Metairie road, the restaurant is easy to find but parking can be difficult. The bianca is pleasant and modern. Staff was courteous and prompt. You get one complementary order of chips and salsa. The chips were fine, the salsa was on the sweet side. If you like that. We got an order of the queso which was not what we consider. Queso. This was really just melted cheese, which I'm sure some people will enjoy, but we prefer it to have more spices. My wife got The carnitas tacos which were just okay. She felt like the seasoning was lacking. I got the duck enmoladas. The mole was not bad at all, but not as much depth of flavor as other moles that I've had. The mole was probably the best thing of the night. Overall, we were underwhelmed with the food. Portion sizes were decent and the prices were reasonable. Nothing stood out and nothing drew us to coming back again. If I lived real close is probably come back, but there are better Mexican places closer to my house so I doubt we will be back. 2 entrees, an appetizer and a beer cost $60. Ambiance: 3.5 stars Service: 3.5 stars Food: 3 stars Value: 3 stars

Yelp
All I can say this place has changed.. I ordered a fajita with shrimp and chicken and a tlayuda/Mexican pizza with shrimp. The food is good but the portion size were for a child. Don't order food to go!! I didn't have no cheese no Guacamole no Pico. And I ordered it on the side. My pizza had sour cream no cheese 4 shrimp. One for each slice..lol.. So don't ordered to go.. Eat in if you want your money's worth.

John J.

Yelp
My wife and I decided to try this while in the area. The staff were extremely friendly and service was really good! Ambiance was nice. I would not come back though and would not recommend. Food was ok but on the lower end of Mexican restaurants that I've been to and I have probably been to over 50. Price was absolutely insane! $91 for two meals and two margaritas with Guacamole.
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
The best birria tacos ever! They call them taquito's but they're totally tacos. Marianna at the bar is always lovely as well
google avatar

Bob E.

Yelp
I'd give 3.5 stars. Zocalo is located on Old Metaire Road located across from the parking lot - the only one on the road. It's food is ok to good. Service is ok to good. I like the ambiance which is fun and a maybe a bit loud. The drinks are amazing. Try the margaritas. Drink up my friends!
google avatar

N P.

Yelp
The tortilla soup was very thick. Nice presentation but lacked depth and was more of a stew. The Diablo shrimp were mild and not flavorful. Shrimp taco was very good and flavorful. Al pastor taco was bland and not memorable. The rice had no flavor and the portion was very small. The black beans were just ok, a bit bland. The Chile rellono had a nice presentation. The dish was mushy. The restaurant has a nice vibe. Nice decor and ample seating. The service was ok but not memorable.
google avatar

Kent N.

Yelp
These tacos are always fresh and hot off the grill. The frozen margaritas will surely put you where you need to be during happy hour or after a long work shift.

Kent P.

Yelp
Very good food and great service. House margaritas are a must try! Highly recommended they load up on ingredients.

Ashley I.

Yelp
I've visited Zocalo many times and will say their bartender is friendly and knowledgeable. I've never had issues with my food. It's always come out hot and tastes the same every single time. Consistency is where a lot of restaurants loose me as a customer! Anytime I have friends and family in town, I take them to Zocalo! As far as ambience, I usually sit at the bar but I will say even other customers are friendly and I've seen strangers start talking to each other. I think that speaks volumes on Zocalos overall vibe.
google avatar

Chad G.

Yelp
Always a great atmosphere and great food!! The margaritas are tasty, the tacos and enchilada are rockstar material

Yelp
Bottomless Margarita + Carne asada = heaven! Zocalo was all around impressive from the service, to the food, to the drinks. The location is a bit unassuming and like many places in the area parking is limited (but they do have a nice size parking lot across the street). The wait staff is nice, quick to be seated to begin your tasty journey. We didn't get an appetizer but the chips and salsa are delicious, some of the best salsa I've ever had. We I visited there was an option for not to less margaritas which I happily accepted since two house margaritas quickly equals the price of bottomless and I can typically drink 3 or 4 if I'm pacing myself so it's a great deal! For the entree I did the carne asada and my wife did the birria tacos. Both were spectacular, cooked and seasoned perfectly delivering an elevated authenticate Mexican experience. It is a little pricier than your typical Mexican restaurant but I think it's reasonable for

Kelley T.

Yelp
There are not words to say how appreciative I am for their staff. Tonight, after closing, I thought that I had lost my phone at the restaurant. There were two incredible staff members who came outside and helped me way after their time to leave. This is a very special place. And, to the two amazing men who helped me out, I will never be able to tell you how appreciative I am. And, the other part of the story is that we just gave my mother last rites a few days ago, and my phone is my only way to work remotely. They made a difference for me tonight.

Tammy W.

Yelp
Salsa is to die for! Delicious chili relleno stuffed with mushrooms, side of maduros and rice. Yummy lunch!

Yelp
OKAY, lets talk yall! They have specials Tuesdays-Thursdays and we went on a Thursday. GUESS WHAT SPECIAL THAT WAS? BOTTOMLESS MARGARITAS. Yes, pick that jaw back up from the floor so you can sip on your marg. Price is $20 and the glass is huge. Margaritas were a little on the sweet side so I would just ask for some limes. They make the cocktail so cute too with a dehydrated lime as garnish. Went to dinner with a foodie friend and ended up ordering the steak quesadilla which was surprisingly good. Steak was juicy! It was a little small for the price but honestly, wasn't there for that, if you know what I mean. We ordered queso blano which it wasn't really a white queso but still pretty good. They serve chips and salsa too! Sorry, I'm really all over the place with my reviews. Idk how to stop it but you don't have to keep going if you don't want to, hehe! My review was mostly for the bottomless margaritas so go and I would recommend taking the next day off.

Jamie M.

Yelp
Talk about a great restaurant experience!!! The taco Tuesday is the best tacos in New Orleans and it's $2.50 per taco! Ummmm yes please. Surprisingly, on of my favorites is the cauliflower taco!! Soooo good and yum. Ohhhh- and the habanero hot salsa!!!!! Ummmmmmm let me bathe in that. Lol and yum yum yum Ohhhhhhhh and fajita wednesdays!!! YUMMMM I moved to Metaire into a apartment to be closer to Zocalo. Yummm only have 5 stars because I couldn't give 6.
google avatar

Geri H.

Yelp
Really like Zocalo. On the pricier side for almost everything, watch the prices when adding meat it's easy to order a $26 burrito. I've had the Mexican pizza and steak fAjitas. I can't wait to go for bottomless margaritas.

Hannah D.

Yelp
Food is okay. Usually only go during specials like taco Tuesday or happy hour since it can get pricey for average food. Drinks are phenomenal! Service is great and it's usually not too crowded which is nice.
google avatar

Angora S.

Yelp
Delicious! More of an upscale experience. I really enjoyed everything we ordered. The elote ribs, carne asada Mexican pizza, the birria tacos and the Mexican old fashion - chefs kiss. My only disappointment was not authentic salsas with any sort of heat level. The place is decorated beautifully and the service is great as well. All in all a great experience just bring your own hot sauce!
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
Really great food! I got the Mexican mojito and it was fantastic! I also got the birria tacos and they were great! I do wish I could order them spicy though! The service was great and I can't wait to come back!

Joan P.

Yelp
Excellent Food Excellent Service Very comfortable ambiance Was our first visit, food was absolutely delicious and we will visit for Thursday for Bottomless Margaritas and small plates
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
The Mexican pizza! It was great! I ordered it with the steak which was cooked perfectly! The bottom of the pizza was super crispy and delicious! Loved it!

Alexander R.

Yelp
If you're looking to blow your money on some bland food and leave on a half empty stomach, this is the place for you! I got the brisket burrito with a side of pico and queso for $20 dollars thinking I would leave with a full stomach. Instead, I received a small bland burrito cut in half, some lettuce with tomato chopped on it like a low budget salad, and stiff, cold queso in a tiny cup. The local Taco Bell will feed you better!

Luciana P.

Yelp
Food is always delicious! I'm stuck on the Mexican pizza with steak because it's just too good! Service and staff are both excellent!
google avatar

Tiff D.

Yelp
Happy to see a non-tex mex mexican spot open up! Good food but pricey. $5-7 PER TACO. $10-12 a drink. Pastor taco did not taste like pastor. It was a little too busy with no pineapple flavor coming through and the meat taste more like carnitas. Would have preferred traditional steamed tortilla over the fried tortilla on the shrimp taco. It broke very easy, making it not easy to eat. Carnitas plate was crispy and had great smokey beans. Large portion that came with only 2 tortillas, although they are very good homemade blue corn tortillas. Decor is beautiful yet simple. Natural elements of wood and live plants. I wont be going here often because of the price point but would recommend it if you're looking for a new place to try!
google avatar

Mikesha H.

Yelp
Overpriced! I just got the tostada and it most definitely not worth the price. I always try to yelp restaurants even if someone suggests it to me. A co worker suggested this place and long story short, he owes me s meal. On yelp the ahi tuna tostada's are $13 but when you get there it's $16 for 3 small pieces. To top things off they were just OK! I wasn't impressed! I don't eat much but for $17 I could have gotten a whole meal that I could eat off of 3 times. Definitely won't be back there again!
google avatar

Olivia N.

Yelp
Zocalo always has incredible food every time I go. We walked in around 630, and while they are always busy, we were seated almost immediately. We ordered guacamole to start which was amazing and the tacos were phenomenal. Great atmosphere, great service!
google avatar

Janine M.

Yelp
About a week ago, I met a friend here after work for drinks and tacos. We were just a bit too late for one of the specials they offered but not to worry...we were in time for another. $2 TACOS!! We ordered and I got a carne asada taco and chicken taco. They were both amazingly delicious. So much so, that I ordered two more. I wanted to order 2 more after that, but I was worried about what people would think so I sucked it up along with my gut and stopped there. I don't have details about what all was in tacos and I was too eager to eat that I don't have visual evidence but when I tell you, I want to go back....Believe me. We also got Margaritas on the rocks (they also offered us frozen) and they were strong and full of flavor. Only one was needed. The Margaritas were $9 which I think had something to do with the first special that we were too late for. But after a long day at work and 4 BOMB A$$ tacos I was not complaining. We sat at the bar and had great service. There were several other patrons in the place who were friendly and engaging. I found parking right out front although that could be a challenge. But, there was an entire parking lot directly across the street so that problem easily solves itself. This is someplace that I look forward to going back to soon.
google avatar

Dusty T.

Yelp
We stumbled on Zocalo while furniture shopping in the area. Everything from the service, to the ambiance and the food was great. Our waiter was top notch and checked on us constantly. We started with the Elote Ribs, which is their upscale take on the classic street food. It was delicious. When the waiter brought ours out to the table it looked so good the adjacent table saw it and asked for one as well. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I ordered Cochinita Pibil which was a bed of corn and masa, topped with shredded pork and pickled onions, which was delicious, but my pork was dry and stringy. Everything else was so good, i would recommend this place and will definitely go again.
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
I went here a couple of weeks ago. I have to say overall it was just OK. Service was better than the food. We were greeted twice and sat immediately, we did have reservations and this place does get busy at prime time, so I suggest making reservations. The table we sat was a little sticky, so I was kind of turned off by that, but I was a girl scout and come prepared and had napkins and hand sanitizer and it was fine after that. The other thing that bothered me a little was the menu online was different than the menu we were given in the restaurant. And with the group I was with, they have a hard time deciding what to get once a decision has been made. The last thing that bothered me and this is the ultimate pet peeve when I dine out... is when I go to order AND THEN the server tells me they are out of it. I feel very, very strongly that if the restaurant is out of a certain food that, that should be the FIRST thing told the patrons even before drink orders are made. That way, I can decide if I still choose to dine there or not, especially if I had my heart set on something specific. The particular food they were out of was pork belly and it was for someone in my group, not me, so I ended up being fine but had it been me, I would have most likely left. Anyway, I ordered the corn as an appetizer, it is called Elote Ribs and it was so good. Out of all the food I had there this day, that corn is totally worth it and at least getting it for take out. I loved it! They cut the corn off the cob and it resembles ribs, hense the name. They have lime and chili powder on it and I think a creamy sauce as well. It is essentially Mexican street corn which I do very much enjoy. I also ordered the shrimp enchiladas. I just wasn't a fan. The au gratin sauce was not that good. The beans were flavorless but the rice was good. Also, the guacamole, was kind of flavorless too. I got to try the Mexican pizza with pork on top, that pork was super good! I also really enjoyed the salsa, it was not chunky and had a little bit of a kick to it. The chips were crispy and thin, the way I like them. I tried tacos as well. The pork one was very tasty, same pork as on the pizza. But the shrimp one was very bland. Overall about half the food was good, half was bad, service was good but prices were a little high. I am not sure I will back but I am glad I got to try this place.
google avatar

Faith A.

Yelp
This place fell flat for me. The prices are high for what you get, however, its not a total shock considering they are located in Old Metairie. The tuna tostada set me back $13 for a slice of tuna sliced so thin I could see straight through it. On top of the fish were some avocado slices. The 3 bites I had were great, but but needless to say not very filling. This is an appetizer so I understand its not going to be a huge entree size, but since I wasn't sharing it I thought it would be enough. On the other hand, the service was great. Our girl was very friendly, attentive and helpful. I thought the decor was open and airy yet still cozy which I liked. I would give this place another go and explore the menu a little more. I would categorize this place as a good spot for drinks and snacking.

Emilie G.

Yelp
So good! Best margaritas and great deals. $5 margs from 3-6! The steak was cooked perfectly and soup was delicious-- tastes a lot better than it looked!
google avatar

Kristina M.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is great and you can't beat bottomless Margs on Thursday! Our waiter was so nice and always made sure our drinks were full or if we needed anything! 10/10 Great service.
google avatar

TiffanyJo P.

Yelp
Wow!!!!! A Taco Tuesday to remember. Last minute decision to splurge on a meal out, and what a great pick. My husband and I are suckers for a hot taco/marg night and Zocalo did not disappoint. BEST, strongest, tastiest 2-for-1 margs anywhere in the city and $2 quality tacos just cant be beat. Add the elotes ribs and mango guac and you can call it an easy, tasty date night with vibey atmosphere and flair! Cannot wait to bring the girls back for endless margaritas!!!
google avatar

Lynette L.

Yelp
I appreciate the ingredients of every dish and the presentation is outstanding. This is one of its kind Mexican cuisine. My favorites are: tamarind margarita, elote ribs, queso fundido (the real queso), and the coliflor tacos ... so far. Of course this is one of my favorite chefs' restaurants
google avatar

Mitchell J.

Yelp
This a nice upscale Mexican restaurant but the waiter can't pour a beer into a glass. I asked for a cold glass with my beer and she poured it into the glass like a normal drink, I had about 1 inch of beer and 5 inches of foam in the cup. The tacos were good but slightly over priced...$4 for a street taco?!?! come on!! But I guess that's what you get for eating in old metry...
google avatar

Daphne A.

Yelp
Amazing venue, amazing food, and amazing drinks. We went for my dad's birthday and could not have had a better night. The carnitas here is massive, and was the most perfectly cooked pork I had ever tasted in my life.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
It's nice a have a Mexican themed restaurant with more of an upscale atmosphere and gourmet inspired menu. Zocalo is not your typical Tex-Mex taqueria type cantina; instead, it takes some of the traditional Mexican dishes and works them into an array of unique and unusual options. We started with a typical and the not so typical with some avocado and tomatoes and the tuna tostada. Immediately, I was impressed with the freshness... just avocado and tomato in the first dish. There wasn't a bunch of salt or other mixers to take away from the natural flavors. The Tuna Tostada was reminiscent of a popular dish en vogue right now in Japanese restaurants, like down the street at Rock N Sake... better known as Tuna "Nachos." This dish at Rock N Sake is one of our facvorite local dishes, so we were very excited to try this one. It did not disappoint... the sashimi grade yellow fin was fresh and chilled, and the leeks and chipotle aioli added perfect ancillary flavor, all atop a crunchy tostada. I'd put it up there with the best. The rest of my meal consisted of tacos... I had the camaron (shrimp) and the carne (beef) tacos, which are ordered individually at $7 each. Both were served with pico and cotija cheese on a blue corn tortilla. I thought they were good, but very typical. There was nothing special in the flavor or in the accompaniments. Lastly, we had the maduros with crema as a side, which is basically plantains served with a creme sauce and cotija cheese. It was one of the unusual options, but the sweet and savory mix delivered a unique flavor that complemented the rest of the meal. My family of four came for lunch on a Sunday for a total price, including tip, of $100. We didn't have any alcoholic drinks and my five year old only had a children's quesadilla (which is very small). My wife and I each had two tacos and two sides and my oldest had the chicken flautas. As appetizers we had the avocado and the tuna. I thought this was pretty expensive, but I understand that Old Metairie is a high rent district and I am willing to pay more for fine dining options like Zocalo. BOTTOM LINE: A great new addition to the quickly evolving culinary scene in Old Metairie. Unique Mexican dishes full of fresh ingredients and big flavors. A little pricey, but worth the premium.
google avatar

Chet J.

Yelp
Since old Metry is starved for new restaurants, this place has been very popular since opening, so I made reservations. Apparently, that means you only wait 15-20 minutes. We did see a small 4-top table sit empty for about 10 minutes while we waited...I get it, it's small and popular, so they needed to save that table... We finally got our table and ordered drinks. My date ordered a Moscow Mule, and specified "not the house special mule, just a standard Moscow Mule." Yep, we had to send it back--it was okay, but the chili flavor was pretty obvious. The chips and salsa were really good--great flavor. But the food--my carne asada and her two tacos were very "okay". Nothing at all special. Not bad, just very, very "okay". So....who knows, maybe we'll go back sometime when it's not so crowded, but as of now, there are many better options for Mexican food. About the place: very attractive. Staff was very friendly. The menu is very limited, so perhaps they change it often. As with any new restaurant over the last few years, it's all hard walls, floors, and ceiling, with nothing to absorb the sound, so it is noisy. But again, apparently that's just the style. So, it's a nice restaurant--not your typical NOLA Mexican place. But the very limited menu IS very typical Mexican fare in its choices, and honestly, the flavor is middle of the road.

Yelp
WOULD EAT HERE EVERY NIGHT! This is what dining experiences are made of! This is what I look for when I go, not a single misstep, I felt like I was at a family get together, service and food was impeccable. We went with a group of friends this past Friday night, they had a packed house (definitely make a reservation- I'm sure is a little quieter throughout the week). They have a good sized waiting and bar area when you first walk in, Very inviting and gracious host. The aesthetic of the interior is beautiful the backing on the benches where we sat looked (and felt) like authentic Mexican textiles as well at the bark wall was eye catching, something we haven't seen before. I also enjoyed the open seating I didn't feel packed in even though it looked like they were operating at full capacity. Olivia was our dining guide for the evening, and this woman should be doing seminars on how excellent service is done. From start to finish she was seamless, flow of food and timing was on par. We really appreciated her being able to accommodated some food restrictions and requests as well. The guide through the menu with her personal favorites and pairings with various mezcals, wines and cocktails was also well received. We will be asking for her again, she was pleasure to be with for the evening. THE MEAL. Holy shit. Hat's off to y'all. That was some of the best food I have ever eaten, the elote's alone I could eat for the rest of my life. Get one of everything, get share plates, you're welcome in advance, you won't regret this. The tuna tostada is the best thing you will put in your mouth-probably like ever. My personal favorite for the night was a side dish of the mirliton/chayote salad with the Carnitas. Pricing was moderate, we typically are eating within the French Quarter or Uptown and the prices were competitive with those locations, I'm not sure if that is pricey for Metarie. Please go, from the food to the atmosphere you will love this low key lit restaurant. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
You have to try the Mexican pizza! It's amazing and even better with the steak! Drinks were delicious and the service was excellent! We ate at the bar and Joel was our bartender, everything he made was perfect! We will definitely be going back!

Yelp
Today was my first time trying this restaurant. It's on Metairie road. It had a good crowd. Some people were wearing masks others not. Thank God Employees were wearing their masks. A bit small and hard to socially distance yourself. Specially at the bar. As soon as you walk in, it's right in front of you. While I waited for my to go food, I ordered a tamarind margarita. The bartender got what looked like a 4 ounce glass and filled it with nothing but ice. I was stunned that after 3 sips my drink was done. Tasted Zero alcohol, Zero tamarind.!! No flavor whatsoever! Just disgusted at this pint. Truly disappointed. Never again. Forgot to mention that tiny margarita was $12!!! for God's sakes!! Didn't understand why I did not get the 2 for 1 price like the special states. Now, to the food. Not good at all. Black beans were extremely salty. Colored rice had no flavor. The tacos were disappointing! Got the fish, shrimp, al pastor, chicken, pulled pork. I think the only one I liked was the brisket. Salsa was good. Chips a bit greasy. Corn tortillas kept falling apart. The mango avocado needed some more flavor. I truly wanted to like this place. I have lived here for so long and it's been so hard to find a true authentic Mexican place that serves really good food! How hard can it be to make a decent taco?? I think I will stick with making my own tacos and my own margaritas. Would love some suggestions of other places that you guys think have decent tacos.

Yelp
What an amazing spot! After seeing all of my foodie friends post pictures of their famous "Elote Ribs," I decided to see what the hype was about. By far my favorite appetizer was the tuna tostadas, crudo tuna chunks covered in a zesty red aioli. I also ordered a family special of 12 tacos of my choice, and split it among me and two other amigos. The tacos were delectable! The tortillas were cooked to the perfect amount of crispiness without being too greasy. It came with rich black retried beans and red rice, which some people would find too salty but I loved it, reminding me of real soul food. This restaurant now has a place in my heart for happy hour. Will definitely be coming back next Taco Tuesday for 2x1 margaritas and Thursday for bottomless margaritas! They're so refreshing and just sweet enough to please my taste buds. Cancel all of your dinner plans ASAP and stop by this amazing restaurant!
