"The Point is always a solid choice because there are so many ways to enjoy the Navy Yard seafood restaurant’s waterfront views. Sit by the fire pits or on the patio for the clearest looks at the river. Grab one of the orange leather booths if you’re snuggling up, or at a table out back if you need a safe distance from the new coworker in your group—all of which give you at least a sneaking glance at the water. This was my all time favorite West African restaurant in Charlotte, for years. I will never go here again. Young people need to know how show up in a professional manner when servicing others. I called to place my order when I was 35 minutes away. Once I arrived, I walked in the restaurant to see it's take out only. This place was always bustling with customers in and out, with the owner greeting you as you walked in. I entered and the place was empty. A young girl strolls in and says hi, what's your name. She had on dirty clothes, a bonnet and was picking at something in her LONG nails. It was disgusting. I tell her my name and she ask me what was my order and what kind of rice... So, you didn't take my order on the phone?? I wait about 10 minutes and she comes to take my payment. My order came to $58 but I'm rummaging through my purse looking for my card. She just turns around and walks back into the kitchen. I finally find it and she comes from the back a few times never saying anything. That's when I began to read ALL of the other negative reviews. I just left. I have lost all respect for small business owners that just want to take your money in exchange for poor service, mediocre food and small portions. No integrity and no shame while completely taking advantage of people.

Google
If you’re looking for food that brings flavor, culture, and pure joy to your event — Zoewee’s Restaurant is it! I had them cater a wedding, and when I tell you it was SO worth it 😫😫😫, I mean every dollar spent felt like a blessing on a plate. From start to finish, the experience was flawless. The trays came loaded, fresh, and beautifully presented. The fried plantains were golden and sweet with that perfect soft-inside, crisp-edge balance. The seasoned meat (lawd have mercy!) was cooked to perfection — juicy, well-spiced, and packed with traditional flavor that made everyone pause mid-bite to appreciate it. That rich, authentic taste? You could tell it was made with love and experience. Guests kept going back for seconds and thirds. People were asking me, “Where is this food from??” because it was just that delicious and memorable. Zoewee’s didn’t just cater the event — they elevated it. They delivered more than food. They delivered hospitality, heritage, and soul. I’m beyond grateful for the quality, the flavor, and the way they helped make the day even more special. Whether it’s a wedding, party, or family gathering — Zoewee’s is a no-brainer. Book them. You won’t regret it. 🙌🏾💯🔥

Hostess was unattentive, she had too much going on. Potions we very small. I ordered two dishes. Palm butter and cassava leaf.. the sauces had a few pieces of chicken and I think I tasted a small piece of smoked turkey. The rice potion was good. I was excited going there because I have had food from there a few years back. I live in Winston-Salem. Wanted to treat my son to some nice Liberian food. For the price I paid, I was very disappointed. Will not support or recommend.

Google
I randomly stopped in and am glad I did because I came back that same Friday, lol. The food is THAT good! I do wish the service was faster. You can easily wait 20-30 mins for your food, even with placing an order over the phone, but other than that, the food is amazing.

Google
Zoewee's is one of the best spot to get good Liberian food in Charlotte. The food is consistently good however, the portions are small. The service is slow, staff unattentive and it takes them a while to prepare the order.

Google
I go here because i absolutely can’t find another place. 27.08 for two soups. Now i don’t mind the price as long as I’m getting what i pay for. Lately it’s been complete trash. I’ve had to return soups I’ve had to throw away soups and some i just simply forced myself to eat because of the cost. You get a baby scoop of greens and then it overflows with palm oil and NO turkey and probably 2 pieces of chicken. I go there and say hey last week there was nooo turkey on the food she tells me to check it. AGAIN NO TURKEY SHE ASKED ME WHAT I WANTED… ma am i would like what comes with my food if that’s okay. ??? They had different cooks one day the soup is amazing by the end of the week it’s burnt with no flavor. I’ve spoken to the man that run this place numerous times. Don’t let that palm oil touch anything it stains everything it touches. IM SERIOUS IT EVEN STAINED MY DOG WHEN HE PASSED THE TABLE AND TOUCHED IT. Such a a nuisance.. I’m definitely spending time this week looking for a new place. I’m over it i really tired. I love the food here but the quality and service has depleted.

Google
I typically go here a lot because of their pricing is more affordable than most locations. However my last few times the quality of the food itself has not been that good. And today I ordered the cassava leaf and when I got home and looked at the food they basically gave me a bowl of oil. When I called to let them know what I had received once I had got home I was told to bring the food back so they could decide if I received a bad batch and for them to decide if I can get a refund or a different entrée. Sadly this will be my last time going to this restaurant.

Google
This place cannot keep up with the demands of the food because every time I call they are out or making more and the time frame is insane I was told twenty to thirty minutes (no biggie) when I arrive on time all the times that I have called and ordered ahead but when I get there no one knows my order or name and then I’m waiting for over an hour for the food. I do keep coming back though 😏 with the hope that one day I will get the food that I ordered

Yelp
First time and didn't know what to order. My granddaughter wanted to try fufu and egusi soup. The young lady allowed us to try several soups. All delicious! And allowed us to try the fried chicken wings. Great customer service and needless to say I ordered 2 soups, fufu and the chicken wings! Happy customer. I'll be back for sure even though not convenient to my home.

Juanita M.

Yelp
Very good. I had the potato greens and it was soo good. It came with spicy rice and plantains. It was enough for 3 meals for me. It was so good until Ii tried to go back 3-4 days later for a repeat but alas!!! They are closed for repairs. I went to another African place because I was so craving those potato greens and they didn't even compare. This place is takeout only and that's good because I don't think the staff here are into people as they were not very welcoming. I was told that they will have Dine In seating starting in Dec/Jan.

Cassie O.

Yelp
First time here after eating at the other African spot down the street WOW such a BIG difference. Customer service was excellent! I was greeted by an elder man then by a younger woman. I placed a to go order of potatoes greens with rice rice and they packed 2 spicy sauce in the side. The food was the BEST I've had in charlotte and I've eaten at all the " popular" west African spot. This one is number 1 in my book and I will support them from now on. This is take out only. You can call your order in or place order when you arrive. I only waited 10 minutes on a Saturday mid day. The inside was clean and has chairs for you to seat and wait for you. Highly recommend take out for your family here. Support small business and this one deserves it!

Sonja S.

Yelp
Called in the order was told it would take 30 minutes showed up 45 minutes later and food was still not ready. I ordered the pepper soup and potato greens. It was very disappointed. The potato greens had an aftertaste and the pepper soup tasted like Texas Pete.

Lubaby Y.

Yelp
The food was ok, the chicken could have been cooked more. The rice wasn't bad but they could've used a different type of rice. The spicy sauce complimented the food greatly which took their food to a 6.7. 6.7 mean ok, which is almost considered Good which is a 7 in my judging manual but it lacked some things which made it not reach a 7. If you not use to spices and foreign food give this place a try.

Ralph W.

Yelp
Food is very good just very spicy so be warned. Mostly traditional African and Liberian dishes as well.

Alesha M.

Yelp
OMG!!! This place is so BOMB!!! the potatoes and greens are Their Fufu is amazing!!!! I thought I only liked East African food. I was so wrong. If you are a first timer and want to try this place is for you! The seasoning isn't over powering like other places Ive been. Everything was good! And the little spice container they give put the flavor on a whole other level.

Katrina G.

Yelp
They did the job! I wanted some cassava leaf and rice. I had my own fish at home. it was last minute and late but they did not fail. The food lasted 2 days. What I didn't expect was the hair in my food. I had noticed it towards the end. And no the hair wasn't mine. My hair is currently very red. I would suggest wearing a hair net when cooking.

Lex H.

Yelp
This is the best African cuisine in Charlotte! I went in one day not knowing what half the menu was. I asked someone who was waiting on his food and he said potato greens. The were do good. The people are nice.

Jordan B.

Yelp
Tried out Zoewee's, a West African restaurant, at the recommendation of a friend. I really wanted to try the jollof rice, but it was not available on the day that I went. However l, everything else that I did try was good! The fish was fried perfectly and the potato greens and rice were the absolute best to me! Fufu was interesting (my first time trying it),but glad I tried it. Zoewee's is located in a small shopping center on North Tryon St., close to Sugar Creek Road. You can call your order in ahead of time for pick up, or you can order upon arrival. I would suggest calling ahead of time for pick up as this would be quicker than ordering in person. I waited for about 20 minutes or more from ordering to getting my food and departing. It had a constant flow of people coming in and out, ordering food, and that's a good sign of a restaurant that is in high demand. The staff was great as they took the order and assisted with calling out names for orders to be picked up. So it continued to move along. Definitely try them out if you are in the North Charlotte area.

Chasity A.

Yelp
The best potato greens in the city. Everything is fresh and authentic. Also the Owner is a very sweet guy.

Dawn R.

Yelp
Let's start off by talking about the food. This place is awesome ! There are layers of flavor. I came here on a Wednesday and got the jollof rice with turkey & chicken and a side of fufu. The rice was so good I had to look up on the internet what was in it. Tomato, ginger, onion, and scotch bell peppers. So yes, this rice has a slight kick to it. The smoked turkey was phenomenal. Like, where was the wood chips being stored at ? because this came out of a wood fire kind of smokiness. It had a couple of chicken wings in there for flavor too. Dang, this was good. The fufu I have to admit, I had no idea what to do with it. From the photos I thought it was a ball of bread. Nope. This is more like the consistency of raw pie dough. According to the internet, you pinch a piece off and use it to scoop up gravy or sauce. I didn't have that, so decided to come back again the next day for lunch. Next day: Got the chicken & fish gravy with rice. The rice was green and I have absolutely no idea why. The "gravy" was too oily for my taste, but if you drain the oil off with your fork before putting it on the rice, it's better. However, the flavor is really good. Again layers of flavor. The fish didn't have much meat on it and was greasy also, but overall it was good. I used some of the fufu from the day before on the gravy. The gravy was too oily for my taste, so I'll find something else to dip it into. Next I'll be going back for that cassava leaf and rice everyone is talking about. This is a NO FRILLS place. It's located in a strip mall and their hours are 12-8. There is absolutely no place to sit down, so don't plan on eating there. They have a large room to the side without tables and chairs, but it is empty and sectioned off. If you want plantains, it takes them 20 min. to fry them. So best to call ahead and they will have it ready for you. The young lady taking orders was very sweet. She even remembered my name from the day before.

Zender C.

Yelp
Good carry out African restaurant. I ate everything, so I have no photos. The flavors reminds me on the meals I had when traveling to West Africa. If you desire authentic Sierra Leone food, this is the place.

Amber M.

Yelp
The BEST authentic Liberian food in Charlotte! And I love that they give the pepper sauce on the side so you can control the spice level. The cassava leaf is my favorite by far and they serve it everyday The potato greens are a close second. My only complaint is wishing the greens came with less meat but that's more of a personal preference. Heads up - prepared to wait, even if you order in advance but well worth the wait.

Lillyanna S.

Yelp
I've been to Zoewee's countless times and it's so good EVERY single time. There have been times where the food wasn't ready in the time frame (they get really busy so I understand), an item was missing or service was a little dry, so don't be surprised if it happens. BUT that's not always the case, they can also be really friendly and honestly, I'm going to keep going back because it's that good. I can recommend the collard greens on Wednesdays, potato greens, cassava, fufu, pepper soup, chicken wings and the fried fish. If you love spicy, the pepper sauce that comes with the greens is extra spicy but adds so much flavor. As a heads up, since COVID, it's no longer a sit in restaurant, so expect to take the food to go. I can also appreciate that they wrap up the food really well for transporting. Highly recommend for authentic African I've been to several other African restaurants in Charlotte but this has by far been the best for me.

Malika E.

Yelp
I ordered the pepper soup. It was spicy and yummy. I definitely enjoyed my lunch. The customer service could be better. I was there right at opening time & ordered, it took about 20 minutes for my order to be ready.

Mia T.

Yelp
The agusi soup tasted like canned dog food. I explained to the host that it was our first time trying the food, thinking he would be helpful with recommendations, etc. Instead he was very dismissive. The quality of the food was piss poor, with no flavor or presentation. I won't be returning. Very uninviting customer service and the food was very over priced.

Gwen L.

Yelp
Friendly staff great food, people travel for miles to eat.My favorite is the potato greens.Keep doing what you doing.

Nana T.

Yelp
Only offers chicken and turkey egusi. They don't even ask you what protein . They just assume you either want chicken or turkey which was not what I wanted. Not traditional at all . Walked out and won't be coming back

Tonya S.

Yelp
Great food and good customer service ...potato greens n rice are delicious! The wait time is short and food is hot n ready!

Chantal C.

Yelp
I ordered the red oil potatoes and green and rice and it never disappoints. I only wish it would be more greens and less meat.

Bryant L.

Yelp
Great restaurant I have been coming here for years everything is good but my favorite is chicken and fish gravy with checked rice every Thursday

Talaya V.

Yelp
Listen!! I dream about this food!!! I travel from Raleigh just to eat at Zoewee's! Everything on the menu is amazing!!!! You will not be disappointed if you eat here!!

Helaina M.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. The food is Always delicious and it has an exotic taste. The potato greens are my favorite. I used to be addicted to the Cassava leaf but it's potato greens period for me. Try the fish, fufu and okra sauce. All delish!! The owner is nice!

Janay J.

Yelp
I didn't take the photo before digging in. This Okro soup is amazing, just so good! I will definitely be returning. I enjoyed every second of eating this restaurants food!

Corey B.

Yelp
I love Zoewee's! The food is always delicious, service always great, employees are always bery friendly and the manager always give me a military discount . What other reasons are there to not continue patronizing this beautiful establishment! Stay consistent, Zoewee's!

Marquita P.

Yelp
Based on other reviews, today I gave Zoewee's a try. One of their Wednesday specials is chicken and smoked turkey with jollof rice. Cool. I didn't mind the lax customer service. I've been to enough ethnic restaurants to know what to expect. The guy who eventually took my order prepared it within a few minutes. Again, cool. He rang up my order and asked if I wanted anything else. After briefly thinking about, I wanted a side of potato greens; never had them before and the previous reviews recommended it. He said a side of greens was 8.00. I incredulously repeated the price, which he confirmed. Curious, I asked the price of the potato greens as an entree. He quoted 10.00. I told him thanks but 8.00 for a side of greens is expensive. He disagreed and said it's not a side dish before asking me what I considered a side. Greens, dude. Greens are a side. Meat is an entree. He swore that's the normal price you pay for a side at any restaurant. No, it's not. I kindly told him never mind and took my to-go order home, only to be disappointed by mediocre jollof. It was...okay. I've had better. The rice was a bit dry and the flavor or spices were meh, even with adding the pepper sauce. The chicken wasn't smoked; it was fried and under seasoned. The smoked turkey was okay too. To be fair, I'll give them a second chance and I'll try a different dish next time. If the second time is similar, then I likely won't return.

Takesha L.

Yelp
My Spot!!! They being shorting everybody on them greens lately though lol. Still worth the dollar though.

Asha B.

Yelp
CORRECTION! - They totally have seasoned rice, which I said they didn't have available in my previous review. Y'all, this rice is fkn delicious! In my previous review I didn't realize that their menu was 2 sided. Can you believe it!!?!?! Rookie mistake!! Lololol! I'm ashamed. Plus I was told there was NO seasoned rice but I might have called it something that they didnt recognize. Lets call it a lapse in communication. Anyway, they absolutely have seasoned rice and a slew of other tantalizing dishes that are available EVERY DAY. Check out the menu pic I uploaded which outlines their daily options. Absolute deliciousness. You're welcome :).

Coumba S.

Yelp
I gave it another sHot and it was so terrible. The food was not fresh... all I could taste was the salt. I'm talking about the famous potato leaves dish that everyone is talking about. Come on. Does not come close to being a 4 star. If you gave this place anything more than a 2 star ratings it's because you've never heard of MAMA GEE'S taKeout oof Beatties ford near uptown.

Kendyll G.

Yelp
i love zoewees. the customer service could use some work but i always do take out anyway. the fish combo is a generoussss helping and when you add the spicy pepper sauce, it makes it pop. the cassava leaf is also a great sized portion. i would eat here multiple times a week if it wouldn't break my bank

Tabitha J.

Yelp
Get Potato Greens and Cassava Leaf and some fufu. It's going to change your life ! My food has never been wrong or nasty been coming here about 4 years

Brittany S.

Yelp
It's a quick turn into a small, 'hole in the wall' type shopping center. I ordered the potato greens with white rice and you get plenty of both for an inexpensive price. And the greens are delicious! If you've never tried it before, ask for a sample to try and they will give you one complimentary! If you don't eat meat as I do, your options are very limited. Very. The seasoned rice has meat and unfortunately, I wasn't able to try it. I tried to order the fufu, which is listed on their menu as a daily offering, but wasn't available :(. It's a small establishment that i would love to return to with hopes of more options and availability.

mo J.

Yelp
I had been picking up orders here from a while. It's located in a little plaza that is easy to pass and the restaurant itself it nothing to look at but the food had always been good and consistent. One thing to also note is unlike any other African/ Liberian restaurants, they do not change the meat. They only cook with smoked Turkey and chicken. I am not sure it the reason for this is to save themselves cost but it never really bothered me but just something to note. I hadn't ordered from here for a couple of months and did so today. First of all, I know that everything and everyone charges more for everything these days but their online menus need to be updated and to reflect that. The meals were $10.99 a couple of months ago and now $13.96. When I asked the women on the phone the total, I was a little thrown back but proceeded with the order since I was craving palm butter . I will say I was very disappointed today with the food. It was extremely salty and pretty much inedible. I am not sure if they have a new cook but I saw a couple of more recent reviews say the same thing. I now hate to say that I am not interested in paying more for inedible salty food so today was my last order with this restaurant and in the hunt for a new African restaurant that I like and is consistent. I have a hard time finding a consistent one in Charlotte.

Aquilla J.

Yelp
The only place to get cassava and potato greens and rice. Seasoned rice is my fav, Always hot and quickly made. Authentic and will always be fresh.

Afrogoddess K.

Yelp
I didn't expect fantastic customer service, being that there is a cultural difference, but I did expect to be respected! I am a black American and I came here with my friend who is from Africa. The waitress Priscilla, asked where we were from and I stated that I was African American and was born in America and she frowned her face up in disgust and I told her to get the stereotypes out her mind and that my boyfriend is African. Then my meal was brought with meat *that was my fault* and she catches an attitude when asked if I could have it served with fish or without the meat and the food wasn't hot. People should learn to treat people accordingly and not based on what they have been fed or seen on social outlets. I've noticed a recurring pattern with ppl who migrate to America, there seems to be hatred towards the African Americans, just don't forget that if it was not for the African Americans, foreigners would not be allowed in America. This country was built on the backs of African Americans! Overall, I have had better service, treatment, and food at Motherland Cuisine and if they didn't close at 6:30 pm on Fridays I would have eaten there! P.s. reading my old reviews I do realize now my first experience here was better then my last!!!

Alicia C.

Yelp
The food has never been a miss. The potato greens and fried whole croaker being my favorite dish. The Pepper soup with Fufu, is a blessing on a cold day. My family has sampled most everything on the menu without complaint. So why the three stars? The customer service is non existent. I usually dine in and there has never been a time where I haven't witnessed someone complain about the service. My mother and I visited yesterday waited for our food for a good 30 minutes, which is fine because it comes out hot and fresh, this is not a fast food restaurant so that is to be expected no complaints there. Our came out without two items. My mom knows the ropes when visiting so she placed the fish order twice. No fish. The waitress who is usually on call moves at a snails pace. It is actually astonishing to sit and experience how she moves about. I watched her clean a table (2 minutes) ask us if we needed anything, take someones order who was irritated by the lack of service, clean another table (5 mins) before putting in the order for the irritated man. I wanted to stay and observe if she got his order right but had to leave. Bottom line, the food is good the customer service is HORRIBLE and I don't think they are going to change that because we keep coming back. My family and I are looking for another location to patronize based only on the lack of customer service we have experienced and seen others experience.

Kia P.

Yelp
FOOD IS AMAZING. Authentic Liberian cooks. Sometimes the wait is quite long. So call it in...

Brandy S.

Yelp
I tried Zoewee's for the first time today. I ordered the jollof rice and also ordered the potato greens. I was skeptical at first, memories of the Late Great Capitola making these meals that I loved but this place was recommended and I gave it a try. I am so glad that I did. The food was great, the service was fine and I will definitely be back for more.

Tekewon S.

Yelp
Love love love some good good cassava leaf! I recommend this restaurant to anyone, my best friend introduced me to zowees and said they had jelluf rice and many other things so I had to go back and try it again! There wasn't a line and the score was 90 which I don't understand why because the restaurant was clean as hell! Go and try them they're delicious!!

Kodjo D.

Yelp
I'm from Togo residing in Baltimore, Maryland and I've travelled to Charlotte, NC to get away. I googled "Best African restaurant in Charlotte, and Zoewee's Restaurant popped up. I would say it's the best decision to eat I've made to eat. The food is so good and abundant, they give you so much food you would think they're closing tonight. Lol I had an excellent experience, I think my mouth and stomach didn't get enough. Lol

Ravion M.

Yelp
Great food and customer service! I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for home-cook, flavorful & authentic food!

Coco K.

Yelp
I loved the food. The palm butter was perfect. I had it with fufu. And the cassava leaf and white rice was also cooked perfectly. I see others had different experiences. I am happy with my food and plan on going back again soon. As a Liberian who grew up on this food, it met my expectations. I highly reccomend it.

Ronisha W.

Yelp
Went for a bookclub meeting to discuss a book based on an African family...have been back monthly for Cassava Stew with Rice and Fried Fish. So much flavor.

Sarah H.

Yelp
Another of my favorite restaurants in charlotte. This food is up there with any fancy uptown dining establishment but they keep the food affordable due to low overhead. If you go to restaurants just for amazing food and don't like paying an extra 15 dollars to your bill to subsidize the location then this place is for you!

Will F.

Yelp
If you've ever had the opportunity to travel and enjoy Africa, the wait time will not raise an eyebrow. Service is culturally appropriate and the food is well worth the wait, so chill out fast food craved foodies. The food is presented clean and simple. Servings are gigantic and can easily feed 2 adults. Be sure to sample the plantains, jollof rice and okra stew-- however, everything I've tasted thus far has made my tummy very happy.

Golden E.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE! I go here at least every 2 weeks. The Cassava leaf is very delicious! I plan on trying more food items soon. Would highly recommend

Hope G.

Yelp
I have been going to Zoewee's for years. I have suggested this restaurant to numerous people. The food, excluding the fish is excellent. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Extensive wait time even if you call the order in 20 minutes ahead. There has been on a few occassions that I was not charged correctly. They are happy to fix the mistakes but how about not over charging. I just wish they would get it together.

Caldwell T.

Yelp
I am a frequent customer here at Zowees. I used to come weekly however, lately it just doesn't seem to be a great value. The food generally taste well. I have ordered, Potato Greens, Casava Leaf, Fish/plantains, Fish Gravy and seasoned rice(which is exceptional). No pork in any of their dishes. I just feel like if you compare their prices to other ethnic spots in town you really aren't getting your money's worth. Barely any meat and possibly the smallest foil containers around. There are a few African restaurants popping up so they may start to feel the competition.
