Des Moines’s Best Restaurants, According to 2020 Campaign Operatives | Eater

"An undead-themed burger joint that is frequented by campaign staff and celebrities on the stump, especially late at night, after a long day on the phone bank, when the full-service bar, coupled with comfort food, comes in handy. “It’s where locals take their friends from out of town,” noted one Des Moines area reporter. The most popular menu item is the Walking Ched, which consists of beef patties, bacon, onions, and cheddar cheese-smothered macaroni in between two deep-fried macaroni and cheese buns." - Gary He

Unique place with great food! It was relatively busy when we arrived with a 25 minute wait to dine inside Zombie Burger. They also had patio seating for a slightly shorter wait. While waiting we took the opportunity to do some of the photo ops and noticed a Ramen place attached. Turns out, it's all the same place with the same menu and this side could serve us immediately. The lady was super welcoming and friendly. We ordered fried pickles, a cheeseburger, Dawn of the Dead, Walking Ched, & T-Virus all with fries. Everything was made to order and delicious. Fries were perfect.... perfect batter, perfect flavor, perfect crunch. It was a little on the pricey side, coming in at over $86 without tip. Overall, it was family friendly and a good experience.

This is probably my all-time favorite restaurant due to the fantastic food, creativity of the menu and the atmosphere. I am a huge fan of Zombie movies and shows. I love all the decor throughout the restaurant, and the Zombie news on the back of the menu is a nice touch. Anytime we are in Des Moines we stop here for dinner. Tonight was our 4th time eating dinner here. The food and service is always fantastic. The prices are reasonable. My only complaint is they are always sold out of merchandise. So far we have only been able to buy a couple koozies. They have some really cool T-shirts and I would love to own one someday.

Google
Weather is enticing enough to add a tasty creative burger with all the trimmings to your get out and try list. Zombie Burger’s quality of meat is simply delicious. Their French fries are well seasoned and some of the best I’ve tried this year. The prices are reasonable with an array of seating choices. The only downside is the city parking meters in front of the building and on all the side streets. Yet, if you want a stupendous burger with creative offerings this is the place despite the limitations on parking.

Google
Overall this is a pretty yummy little burger joint, with friendly staff and big portions. We didn’t totally dig the zombie vibe, but if that’s your thing or you’ve got littles that are into it this is your place. We had the Helldorado chicken sandwich which was delicious, the East village of the damned burger that was also yum, and the sweet potato fries and cheese curds were also a big hit. There’s order and seat yourself or a traditional restaurant option if you prefer. Portions are large so consider sharing and price was a bit steep. But all in all, good experience.

I had wanted to go here for awhile. The service was quick and food was great. They have a few good photo places and plenty of Zombie decorations. Price is reasonable.

Google
Fun experience! The Human Centipeach shake was very thick but tasty. I had a regular burger which was good and the sweet potato fries were my favorite.

Google
Easy, fun and Oh My Gosh delicious! Was busy, we had to sit at the bar but even so the food was quick and fresh! Bar tending staff was very conversational. 🧟‍♀️ He gave us a little history on the place and about the owner. We had the Walking Ched and Planet Terror.

Amazing! My love for Zombies & vegan burgers. Yes, please! This was my first time ever trying food from Zombie Burger as I was visiting Iowa for the first time as well & friends have talked about this place before I arrived & I was NOT disappointed! I'm pretty sure I did a little dance while eating. Haha. The staff were all amazing & friendly. The decor & vibes of the place was warm, friendly & fun. It was a bit busy when we were there but I can see exactly why & did not mind the wait as the food was worth it. If I am ever visiting the area again I will be eating there again!

Yelp
When I was told about this place I was to excited as I tried a themed burger place like this in Ohio and it was trash. So we decided to go eat there. As we pull up the line was OUT THE DOOR AND DOWN the sidewalk. We ended up sitting at the bar. I ordered the Big kid zombie box. It came with a beer, a key chain and a burger w/fries. As the order was pushed to me I was excited and joking about the kid meal box it came in but when I opened it... the burger looked delicious. Ok words can't really explain the savory bite I took into this burger! It was Delicious! And it was amazing from beginning to end. We also ordered bacon garlic and blue cheese fries. And even those were on another level of fabulous. I highly recommend this place and the best bang for the buck I think was that big kid zombie box. The bartender at the time I wish I caught his name. But he has been there for 13 years and I as able to help me decide what to get and even shared the opinion about burger and beer. Bravo Zombie Burger I'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
This Zombie Burger + Drink Lab can be found in downtown with (metered) street parking. There is outdoor (dog friendly) seating available. Zombie Burger + Drink Lab was highly recommended by locals so my husband and I decided to make an order to go after visiting the State Capitol a few Fridays ago. We ended up ordering: Big Kid Zombie Meal, $14.99 + Triple Burger add on, $2.50 + 1/2 loaded fries, $2.25 prior to tax- This big kid meal comes with a root beer float, a side of fries and a toy, which is a key chain bottle opener with Zombie Burger's logo it. My husband decided to add on the triple burger patty because he figured it would be great for the 2 of us since we were planning on sharing this meal. He also decided to add the loaded fries too (I made the mistake to use the restroom while he ordered. I honestly would not have added that). The burger was good, juicy and flavorful. I liked the cheese between the patties and the sauce or spread used on the burger. But the bun was a major fail. It did not hold up to the bun and just fell apart and was rather soggy. The loaded fries were really tasty and a good portion. I liked my root beer float (I don't even remember when was the last time I had one). The box the burger comes in is pretty cool. I thought this big kid meal was a fun experience. Chili Cheese Fries, $8.99 prior to tax- Our chili was packed on the side since our meal was taken to go. The fries already had melted shredded cheese on it. The chili was nice and thick. The portion size of these fries is quite a lot and plenty to share with 2 or 3 people. ------------------------------ (Total= $31.59 after tax + 2.75% surcharge for paying with credit card) Please note that if you want to avoid the transactions credit card fee, pay with cash. We did not know about the fee, as we did not see on the menu or a sign that there was a fee (nor did I read in reviews from fellow Yelp members about it). Service was friendly. Wait time wasn't too bad, especially since we ordered in person. The restaurant is decked out in zombie décor. The bathroom was also pretty cool too. I can see why this place is so highly rated and also well liked by visitors and locals.

Yelp
Fun concept, restaurant has two parts - proper dine-in and kiosk self-service. Lots of burgers and shakes to choose from. The Cremator burger and Peanut Butter Banana shake were great. Would definitely revisit to try the others if I find myself in Des Moines again.

Yelp
Very good! Got the chicken, people are very nice, service is outstanding. Great vibes. Smelled weird tho

Yelp
The food was fine. I ate it but I wouldn't write home about it. Decor was pretty cool and good overall vibes. We chose to sit at the bar for drinks and food- that was the fatal mistake. The bartender SUCKED. Asked for recommendations and he refused. Not attentive. Wouldn't go back just because of him.

Yelp
I had a couple of local draft brews that I enjoyed quite a lot. There were a ton of burger selections. I had the one with cheese curds and fried pickles on it. It was quite good, not the best burger I've ever had but definitely a good burger. Came in from out of town for work. If I find myself back in Des Moines I'll definitely go back again. The server was very nice and helpful with good recommendations. We sat outside. It was shady and great weather. One of the highlights of this restaurant is the zombie theme. They really stuck to the theme with all of the menu selections and decor.

Yelp
4.0* (out of 5) Food: 5* Atmosphere: 4* Value: 4* Service: 3* 07/20/2023 A group of business visitors were in town for the day and wanted to try Zombie Burger. Rather than have it delivered, we opted to delay our lunch until just before they left town so that we could enjoy a fresh, hot meal as well as the well-known ambiance of Zombie Burger in person. For starters, we ordered Fried Cheese Curds (see picture) and 3 Pigs Nachos (see picture) to share. The Fried Cheese Curds were above average and I found the 3 Pigs Nachos to be some of the best nachos I've had - fresh, crispy chips with excellent smoked pork, cheese and other toppings make this a solid appetizer. For my meal, I ordered a Poultrygeist with a side of Sweet Potatoe Fries (see picture). Yeah, I know, my wife made fun of me also for ordering a chicken sandwich in a place known for its burgers...but my strategy was to eat a little lighter so that I could sample one of their shakes. The Poultrygeist was delicious - crispy on the outside, very juicy on the inside and quite tasty! The same can also be said for the Sweet Potato Fries - they were cooked to perfection and quite tasty. The only disappointment was the service, as it was average at best. It seemed that we were waiting to order and looking to catch someone's attention when we wanted something. Myself and a co-worker had empty water glasses for 5-10 minutes and finally had to catch a server walking by to ask for more water to finish our meals. Yelp
Zombie Burger and Fong's Pizza are probably two hilariously wacky places you should try out if you want a fun, unique experience at the slight expense of the quality of food! Zombie Burger, with just a few locations throughout Iowa, is completely decked out with neon signs and decorations all centered around zombies, gore, and the like. It's a ton of fun, there was a Frankenstein hanging over our table, and even their menus are like newspaper clippings with news of recent zombie attacks on one side and the menu on the other. The attention to detail is solid and I really appreciated that! Zombie Burger gives fast casual vibes, with it's casual dining tables and chairs and a whole section of the restaurant for ordering carryout and picking it up, but there's also a bar where you can stay for a while as well, so I think this is good for something casual or for carryout, with a small or large group as well. The menu is majority burgers and also a ton of fun shakes with a ton of punny names! What I like especially about this place is that it's super vegetarian and vegan friendly. You can substitute any beef patty with a Beyond burger (vegan) or portobello mushroom as well for a more "natural" substitute. We ended up getting the two most egregious burgers on the menu - the "They're coming to get you Barbara" burger (instead of normal buns, the burger and all the toppings were sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches) and "The Walking Ched" (instead of normal buns again, the burger and all the toppings were sandwiched between two breaded, deep fried macaroni and cheese buns)! Burgers are served in a smash burger format, so it didn't feel as hefty as I had imagined in my head. My grilled cheese buns were also mashed down quite a bit so it all appeared more flat and smaller than anticipated, which I appreciated. Regardless, I still could not finish mine! I also got the Coke float, which was delicious! I wasn't in the mood for a full on shake and I had decision fatigue just from looking at the menu because there were so many delicious options, but the Coke float hit the spot (I refilled it with Coke probably halfway through the drink as well because the ratio was getting off kilter), but that would be an extra thing you would need to ask for. All in all, a super fun and hilarious experience, complete with a proper story and photos to show friends about our experience here. It's the pinnacle of "stupid" food and I was fully here for it! I recommend Zombie Burger for a fun time and quick bite!

Yelp
I thought I was going to become a zombie by the time my food arrived. When it did arrive I felt like I came back to life! I know it's a burger place. Everyone else got a burger. I opted for the grilled chicken. It was a nice option!
google avatar

Yelp
Good food, but not a whole lot of vibe.. order at the counter type place instead of a pub. I'd come back for the poutine, it was absolutely delicious.

Yelp
Our server was a friendly dude who seemed to enjoy his job. He was attentive and helpful throughout the meal. My husband and I each got a burger and beer, and then we shared a side of blue cheese fries and a spiked coffee milkshake. Everything came out really quickly and was super tasty. There were lots of menu options to choose from. I love that the interior is fun and themed without trying to seem too much like a haunted house or something. If I was local I would eat here all the time or even just get a drink and side at the bar. Great experience overall.

Yelp
Zombie Burger in Des Moines provided a memorable lunch experience on a Saturday afternoon. The immediate and friendly seating by the hostess set a positive tone, and the restaurant's unique zombie-themed décor created an engaging atmosphere, perfect for fans of horror movies. The extensive menu was a pleasant surprise, offering a wide variety of options, including a themed holiday menu inspired by Krampus. Our waitress contributed significantly to the positive experience with her excellent service and attentiveness. The standout item was the Zombie Bride Wedding Cake shake, a delightful blend of vanilla ice cream and yellow cake mix. The Undead Elvis burger, featuring peanut butter, fried bananas, bacon, cheese, egg, and mayo, along with the They're Coming to Get You Barbara (grilled cheese burger) and chili cheese fries, were not only delicious but also visually appealing. While the overall dining experience was excellent, there was a minor setback with the grilled cheese on the burger, which wasn't as warm as desired, and the cheese hadn't fully melted. Despite this small flaw, the overall impression was positive, leaving us excited to return. Zombie Burger is highly recommended for its unique theme, extensive menu, and flavorful offerings. We look forward to our next visit.

Yelp
The burger patty reminded me of something you would buy from the frozen section of Kum & Go and heat in a microwave. No one in our group thought any of the food was very good. Just felt like a gimmicky place with below average food.
google avatar

Travis T.

Yelp
A unique experience where I get to enjoy a hamburger with a shake in a zombie-themed restaurant that is worth going at least once. The raygun burger and the human centipeach shake was pretty good. The zombie poutine was decent. The option to order from a kiosk instead from having to wait in line to order makes ordering more convenient.
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
Zombie Burger is one of those places you have to eat at when you visit. There's nothing quite like their burger combinations. My favorite thing is you can substitute out the beef burger for grilled chicken, a veggie burger, and more. It's makes it a great place to go for my family since half of us love beef while the other half can't eat it. My go to is definitely La Horde with chicken and a half serving of the loaded fries. The workers are always friendly and quick to make suggestions. It's a fun place to eat at, but it also travels well if you'd rather have a more relaxing dining experience. My one grievance is that their shakes sound so delicious but there aren't any dairy-free options! I really hope one day that changes.

Yelp
Great place for burgers as the name suggests. Creative and fun names for their offerings. Ample outdoor seating with convenient parking ramp to the east side of building.

Amy P.

Yelp
We dropped in during our spring break roadtrip not knowing really what to expect. The name of the restaurant peaked our curiosity and this place did not disappoint! The burgers were absolutely delicious, cooked and seasoned to perfection. After reading reviews I knew I was going to order the sweet potato fries and they were off the charts tasty. Our server was outstanding and catered to our group of seven and her other tables like a pro. We didn't want for a thing under her care. The vibe of the restaurant was super cool and extremely unique. Make sure to take pics with the zombies in the front, they are ready and waiting for your entertainment. The bathrooms are somewhat detached from the restaurant and require a code for use which was intriguing but that added to the entire experience. The parking situation was almost enough to have us skip our visit but I'm so glad we took a few minutes to trouble shoot and realize that there's a very nice parking garage within easy walking distance. We had a wonderful experience at Zombie Burger + Drink Lab. Excellent food, friendly and attentive wait staff, fun environment and very reasonable prices made for an unforgettable visit. We're still talking about how much we enjoyed it here!

Yelp
This place was a fantastic surprise. We were on our way through town and everyone loved it. The burgers were creative and delicious. The staff was helpful and the location is great.

Yelp
Yummy food!! Excellent Customer service!! Love the ambiance of the restaurant!! Great burgers!!
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy stuff!!! Got a whole bunch of food here with a group of friends. Everything we had was good, and the inside was decorated all spooky for Halloween (fitting with their general vibe honestly though). I think my favorite was the fries they provided. The fries were reeeaaal good. Even better was the BIG cup of ranch they gave with the fries (when requested). Some places really skimp on giving you enough ranch but this place did NOT. I greatly appreciate their understanding towards important Midwestern culture.

Jenny S.

Yelp
Great place to get a burger , outside patio is nice for people watching and taking in the city atmosphere , if you aren't from around here ! Service was great as well!
google avatar

Marie C.

Yelp
Great area, perfect spot to stop for casual food in a group. Came here on a pretty busy night but service was still quick and everyone was really nice. Parkings a little tough but not horrible. Love the zombie theme everywhere at the restaurant and on the menu! Huge array of burgers so there's something for everyone! They've also got solid fries and most importantly a killer milkshake menu! The milkshakes can also be spiked!

Yelp
Zombie burger is a wonderful place to have some fun. It has a nice aesthetic that is on theme with its name. There are pictures of zombies on the walls and other decor even on the bathroom doors there is a picture of a female and male zombies which is a fun touch. There shakes are delicious my favorite is the zombie joe or zombie unicorn zombie Joe has a nice coffee taste the texture is also amazing. There burgers are average for the price that you pay. Every Time I go to Omaha I try to stop by. Their service is typically good but one time they did forget to add my coffee to my ice cream but it's ok it was just one simple mistake but that was at the location in the mall not down town. I recommend trying at least once it something really special.
google avatar

Suren K.

Yelp
We were doing a road trip and stumbled upon this place on the way to Omaha, NE. Not only is the price reasonable but the burgers were delicious. My husband ordered the hell dorado and I ordered the Envy burger. The burgers/chicken sandwiches are creative with so much flavor. You have to also try the zombie joe, it's a coffee flavored milkshake that tastes so sooo good. Zombie burger has two sections, one take out and dine in area with a bar. Depending on what mood you're going for, can can choose sit down or more fast food style. Both are great! Definitely worth coming as a planned meal or a quick pit stop.
google avatar

Valerie B.

Yelp
The burgers were great and large servings for the price. Definitely recommend the socket cocktail. Fast service and our waitress was great!
google avatar

Nate B.

Yelp
This place is amazing in its decor and theme. The burgers are quite good, but more about the toppings and fun variations than just a high quality burger. Service was really good during our visit. The food gets really heavy, especially if you dabble with their fun and creative milkshakes, which are really delicious. A really fun and unique place to check out!
google avatar

Casey S.

Yelp
The others in my group had an actual burger, which they enjoyed. Trash burger fully loaded- including fried pickles & onion straws on it. My hubby loved it. I had they chicken sandwich with Mac & cheese which was great. The Mac & cheese reminded me of "school Mac & Cheese" very nostalgic. Kids meal cheeseburger ok. Atmosphere was very zombie cool. Only improvement would be bathroom smell- yikes.z

Phil H.

Yelp
This place is always a favorite of ours. If you are looking to blow your diet and have one of the best burgers in Iowa - look no further. I love trying new things here - they have such unique combinations, but they are always so incredibly well done. The service is always solid. And this place is always busy. Sometimes with a line out the door will leave your lucky to find a seat inside or out! But overall, such a unique place with fun decor and a great atmosphere! The whole family will love to attack these burger zombies!!!

Yelp
Food wasn't very good, hostess was running around like crazy, took a long time to be seated. Service was slow and for some reason the bartender was our server. Don't bother coming here.
google avatar

Lee H.

Yelp
We went Sunday afternoon. Very busy we had the greatest server Alex. Very personable and great personally and his own style he dealt with small shoulders as if they were paying the check. Lots of respect and can imagine Jim bro g a company trainer because he did well with his craft. Well all had a variety of items I love the Walking Ched.
google avatar

Sanah B.

Yelp
Super solid vegan options including two different vegan mayo type sauces. Really liked their house veggie patty, good bite and nice subtle smoky flavor. Opted to have the veggie patty over the house salad which I enjoyed (but order two patties if you do this, I wish I had!). The issue was that our basket of fries came out cold (read: not steaming hot as fries should be). They had been sitting around, which I do understand as we came an hour before closing. That said, ain't nobody wasting calories on cold fries so we asked for a hot batch. Our server kindly obliged and brought back the basket...but realized they just threw our old fries in the fryer to "reheat" them. So now we had 2-3x fried fries that tasted like oil and had a weird texture. Made me sad. Two of us only ate 1/3 of the basket which was the real tragedy. Make sure you ask for fresh fries. Otherwise, good burgers--wish they didn't up charge for the Beyond option and had a vegan milkshake option though. Would come back in a pinch but not seek this place out.

Thomas F.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and service was spot on. Flavors of food and beverages are awesome. The shakes and fries were great.
google avatar

Joan R.

Yelp
Fun zombie decor, menu and food. I was looking for a place to grab a late dinner with vegan options and Happy Cow led me to this place. They had several vegan options and I picked chili and Negan burger. Both were delicious. I will definitely come back here again and bring more people for this unique dining experience this part of town is really hip and fun
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
I came here for dinner when I was on town. It was within walking distance of my hotel. I sat up at the bar. I got the fried pickles to start. They were amazing. Probably the best fried pickles I've ever had. So I had to eat them all. And then I had the trailer trash zombie fried chicken sandwich. Omg all the deep fried goodness. I also had the reposado pear cider. My meal was amazing and super unhealthy. Loved it.

Yelp
I came to Des Moines for a wedding earlier this year. The bride loves burgers and she loves zombies, so when she heard about this place, we obviously had to come and check it out. In a beautiful section of the city that literally all the locals called "the cool, younger people side of town," the location was easily walkable from any part of the city, and it has a long patio that gives you a nice view of the downtown traffic. Walk inside, and you're greeted by excellent zombie props and memorabilia plastered over every square inch of wall, as well as huge zombie mannequins for some pretty neat photo ops. There's even unique artwork murals that are Des Moines zombie themed, for a nice touch of city personalization. So when you hear about this place, you hear about two things, the burgers and the milkshakes. You have to get a burger and a milkshake. They're so good. So I did. I ordered La Horde (goat cheese, bacon, caramelized onion, mayo). A double, of course. They use thinner, smash-style burger patties, but they are very juicy and have a good, beefy flavor. Take that beefy flavor and add the tangy goat cheese and the crispy bacon. So good. I also like that all the burger options are simple. Onion and may, and that's it on this burger. Simple and perfect. I also got to try the Juan of the Dead (green chile + cheese croquette, Monterey Jack cheese, caramelized onion, chipotle mayo). This one was also really nice. The cheese croquette makes a really fun, crispy cheese bomb that makes a beautiful mess. And the chipotle may, you can really tell it's chipotle-y. They did a good job. We ordered a side of Sweet Potato Fries (with ranch). Crinkle cut, excellently crispy. They didn't give us the ranch, but that's ok. A fine side. And, the milkshake. They have many different options, and I would honestly have happily sucked down any one of them. But I decided on the Crunch Berry option (vanilla ice cream, Crunch Berries). So good. So soft and creamy. Don't even bother with the straw. Get the spoon and dig in. The berries are crunchy at first and get then soggy and flavor the ice cream like cereal milk. So nice. Overall, if you come to Des Moines, you need to come here. I will leave it at that frank of a statement. An institution of the city.

Yelp
I heard about this place and I had to come over and explore the restaurant. The theme is Zombies (clearly!) and the people are nice but in a zombie way. They play the role very well. They are helpful and they give you enough time to look at the menu as they have zombie names and it is a bit weird. I asked the bartender for a suggestion and you can have 1, 2 or 3 patties. I decided to go with one as the person next to me had 2 patties and he could have fed a battalion. The fries are old fashion fries and really crunchy and good! I also requested a shake (no picture ‍) with a coffee base and oh my gosh! It was good! If you leave this place hungry, you either did not ask for suggestions, have allergies to something or you are a selective eater because they have good portions. If you are visiting Des Moines, you should stop by this place or bring your guest to have a zombie experience
google avatar

Carol S.

Yelp
We ordered several apps and entrees for pick-up - everything was good, but it would be best served in the restaurant.
google avatar

Courtney C.

Yelp
Vibe- Nice restaurant with plenty of seating outside and inside as well. As in the name there is a zombie theme and you can see zombies in the decor all over! Customer service- Great! Everyone I encountered was helpful. Food/drinks- There's a couple of vegan options on the menu so that's always a plus for me! I ordered the negan off the menu which is one of the vegan options. It was good, but honestly taste just about how every other vegan burger does. Parking- They are in downtown and parking lots tend to not be as common in downtown areas. There was only street parking from what I saw. 4 stars only because there are no vegan shake options and the parking situation

Yelp
Fun place. Burgers were excellent people were nice. Would definitely recommend this for most everybody.

Chassidie L.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to try this place since it had pretty good Yelp reviews! Overall, they had a super cool theme, which they stuck to when it came to interior design and menu items. As the name entails they had a variety of delicious sounding burgers & milkshakes! We decided to get the walking ched ($9) which was super hefty! There were two deep fried mac n cheese buns w/ caramelized onions, bacon, and more mac and cheese inside. It was definitely very filling and dense. Would I get it again? No, it was a heart attack waiting to happen haha. But I loved the novelty and creativity! And our milkshakes were delicious! We got the strawberry churro ($6) and cookies & cake ($5.50). But the true star of the meal were the fried brussel sprouts! Those were utterly delicious.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place ~ it was my first time here and the server was very friendly & helpful. the food is also delicious!!

Yelp
Back again! Never disappoints. The chicken tenders are amazing. The buffalo sauce has some kick! Paired well with good ole ranch sauce, which also sauced up the fries. The Undead Elvis was amazing (again). The 2nd patty had me ready to deliver my food baby but we'll worth it. Will hopefully be back again!

Yelp
Overrated!!! Service = 0 (asked the server what was good, he said "I don't know, I really don't eat here". Atmosphere = 3, food = 2. Ordered the goat cheese jalapeño poppers, it comes with raspberry jam (it wasn't a raspberry chipotle sauce at all... straight up JAM)! The breading wasn't good. Also ordered the Garlic Bacon Blue Cheese Fries = 2. They"re coming for you Barbara" (grilled cheese sandwich with two burgers) = 3. Ordered a shake..... very runny! Overall rating 2! Again, completely OVERRATED!

Yelp
Entree: I got the dawn of the dead burger. The meat itself is comparable to street vender food. The burger was cold and the cheese wasn't even melted. Bacon can be compared to a gas station bacon. Thin, bland and chewy. Sides: The cheese curds were mediocre and cold. The batter was soggy to the bite but the cheese was okay. If you're asking for $10 for a side it should be AT LEAST WARM. Dessert: Honestly this was the best part of the dinner. The berry crunch was delicious and a nice hefty portion of cereal. The milkshake itself got this place a whole star. Otherwise I would've given it a 2 star. I apologize for not taking pictures I was just disappointed and didn't want pictures of some mid ass food. I'm from out of state and heard a lot of hype about this place and I was ecstatic to try it but it didn't meet my expectations. If you're serving food it should at least be hot. The worker better chill on his attitude too. Service was good awful. In my opinion the service doesn't really affect my reviews but this would've been a 1/5 stars for that shit. This review is all based on the food.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with the Undead Elvis burger- everyone I know loves it. Also, the sweet potato fries are some of the best I've ever had. A friend ordered the salad and it was much better than your average salad.

Yelp
If Zombies scare you, maybe not coming here. Foods great, people are fun. Price is not bad either.

Yelp
Personally I feel like it's all so overdone, you kind of get the full experience from one visit. Food has always been good & I love the cereal shakes - just not a place I visit often. Definitely a fun experience for out of towners!

Yelp
Came here for work and I heard it was a good place to try, so I thought I'd give it a go while I was still in Des Moines. Of course, the theme of the restaurant is zombie apocalypse and when you enter into the restaurant there's two sections. One side you can go and order your food at the register (more fast food style), the other section is more of a traditional dine in restaurant (seated a table, given menu's, waiter takes order, etc). My friends and I decided to go with the latter option. Our waitress was fast and friendly, her fashion choices were questionable, but she was very sweet. ( I mean how do I expect them to dress in a zombie themed restaurant lol). I ordered the walking ched burger, a strawberry shake, and a margarita. The burger was interesting you can get it in a single, double, or triple. I chose the single, it's a beef patty with bacon and Mac and cheese on it. The "buns" are also deep fried with Mac and Cheese on the inside. It was actually pretty good, but my goodness it was diabetes on a plate! I didn't even know how to eat the burger, I just tore it apart with my knife and fork. The strawberry shake was really, really good and the margarita as well. The margarita wasn't too strong (which is probably why I liked it). The prices were very decent. I only paid $22 and some change. I do think I would go here again to try more things on their menu. If you ever find yourself in Des Moines, definitely give this place a go!

Yelp
First time here and visiting the area. GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE. We got 4 burgers and split them into 4s and each tried a different burger. We got the ray gun, they're coming to get your Barbara, trailer trash zombie, and the undead guy bbq burger. All were amazing and incorporated great flavors which made them more than just a regular burger. We also had the fried pickles and they weren't too salty or super greasy. Would love to come back and visit.

Yelp
The employees were super kind and helpful, but I was extremely disappointed in the value. For a little over $32, I got two burgers and two tiny fountain drinks. No fries, didn't get the fry sauce that I paid extra for. When going to fill up the soda that was nearly $3, I couldn't believe this was the size of the drink I was getting. I even asked the employees if this was really the only soft drink size because I truly could not believe the rip off that was this cup. The food is good, but a $12 burger without fries is kind of ridiculous for a fast food place.
