From hosting King Cake Hub to scheduling nearly nonstop outdoor live music, the brewery helped create steady gigs for local musicians and pop-ups during the pandemic. On weekends find top food trucks like Southerns for crawfish and Zee’s for pizza, fueling drinkers on the huge outdoor drinking space." - Clair Lorell, Eater Staff

"Last month saw the Zony Mash Beer Project revive the former Gem movie theater on S. Broad Street, most recently home to the now-closed Wayward Owl Brewing Co. Crafting Memorable Experiences for Every Special Occasion, Not Just Beers! We had the privilege of servicing Moriah & David's nuptials at Zony Mash Beer Project on Saturday, March 30, 2024, and it was an unforgettable experience! The eclectic venue was perfect for their unique celebration, complete with Zapp's Chips, a DIY second line, and a beautiful ceremony featuring a talented guitarist. Our team provided a DJ/MC, photo booth with a specialized Miyazaki theme, event management, and a stunning cold spark display. The kids loved the photo booth and pinball machines, while guests were delighted by Miyazaki films projected on the big screen. The staff at Zony Mash (Adam and Branna and their team) did a wonderful job hosting, and the catering team from Pigeon Catering ensured the food was hot and delicious. It was a perfect day, and we highly recommend Zony Mash Beer Project for any event!

Google
We had a great time here dancing the night away! We went to see John Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentleman and they were amazing! This place is very spacious and they have a huge beer selection. Google
Great space for live music. This review should be a 4.7 or 4.9 because the didn't bring the houselights down, literally my only complaint. Reasonably priced micro brews. Everything else was excellent.

Mac Sabbath Baby! I'm Lovin it! Also the other bands were fantastic! This band from Arizona was so fun. They gave strong Devo vibes. Venue is really cool! Hopefully we see more shows there

Google
Exciting beer? YES! Quality product and creativity? Absolutely!! The best beer on our NOLA trip. Great location and passion behind the effort. The nitro stout was amazing, hitting all the right notes: creamy, rich, decadent... This is a brewery with something for everyone, and a venue that will draw a crowd! The old movie screen is kept rolling with a show or movie continuously. We will be back, now or in the future.

Google
Good venue, good pop-ups, good beer, good music, good service and clean bathrooms! I went ahead and tried a flight of four different sours that they had on the menu and I was not disappointed! The favorite was definitely the hurricane inspired sour and I really enjoyed the rest of them as well. They have one really pungent not very fruity one that was the least favorite but it was still fun to try and everybody else really enjoyed their beverages as well.

Google
Great beer and lots of good food pop-ups. New outdoor space looks and feels great. Highly recommend from a local! Pandemic conscious.

Yelp
Good beers, horrible service. Went last Saturday afternoon and were 1 of 3 groups there. The bartender was not only unhelpful but rude. We were curious about the difference between a regular flight and luxury flight and he mumbled at us in a condescending tone. We ordered a flight and he slammed the wooden flight holder on the counter. We love going to breweries cause the atmosphere and staff are typically chill and friendly, so we were disappointed and caught off guard with our experience here, which is disheartening since they have interesting beers and the atmosphere was cool - live music and the seating is surrounded by the brewing equipment.

Yelp
Zony Mash has been on my short list for way too long. Finally took the opportunity to pay them a visit, in spite of the fact that they're not within walking distance of home, or pretty much anywhere else. Found a parking spot in their ample lot on the backside of the building. The entrance is a bit tricky to find, but worth the trouble. Great beers. Awesome space inside a former theater with a huge beer garden. Service was less than friendly, but efficient. Food truck on site. Cool band on stage and a craft fair happening on this Sunday afternoon. Glad I got to experience it on a relatively quiet day. Anxious to go back when it's a bit more lively.

Yelp
We had a great time at Zony Mash! They had live music and crawfish and the outdoor seating was fabulous. They have some shaded areas and they're dog friendly!

Yelp
This review is based on one experience, but I was intrigued enough by the place to definitely want to go back. The space itself is great. The inside is an old movie theater so it is very spacious with a long bar and many taps. It's very easy to grab a spot and still be distanced where you can have conversations without yelling. The outdoor seating area is also very spacious. They have shaded areas set up and some smaller seating spaces closer to the two different musical stages. They also typically have at least two different food pop ups outside. The beers I've had so far were okay. They still have a lot more so I haven't given up finding one I like. There's also tons of seltzer's I need to try. So this is kind of a pro or a con depending on I guess what mood I'm in. I like sitting outside, but on the weekends they now have live music during certain times. I like live music, but it's not free. (And it shouldn't be) So if you weren't in the mood for music you don't have to leave, but you do have to go inside.
google avatar

Danie R.

Yelp
Great space in an old movie theater! It's especially cool for bands and the live DJ sets. They have a lot on tap, and even more canned. I'm a big fan of the king of carrot flowers gose (also really love the neutral milk hotel reference and which came first? Did the song inspire a carrot beer or was it first the idea for this beer then the name came?) Service was wonderful too!

Moe G.

Yelp
Caught the legendary Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen (aptly named) here. This is a fairly new venue. Zony Mash Beer converted an old theater into a microbewery/concert room and it's a beauty. Great sound system. Nice people running the joint. And the beer's pretty damn good too. (Tried 2 winners...the Porter and the Lit AF). I'm an old crotchety ba$tard myself, but I believe the atmosphere of this place is the definition of what the young whippersnappers these days call "chill". You'll need to Uber..or drive...here from the Quarter. It's in an industrial area. But if there's somebody playing here you want to see, then by all means check the place out. Zony has the earmarks of becoming one of the great concert destinations in the city, and it might just be the linchpin to revitalize the whole neighborhood.

Yelp
Tonya was helpful in assisting us with our choices. She was very warm and inviting. The interior is SPACIOUS and the decor is fitting with what New Orleans has shown us tourists to be...A PARTY TOWN!
google avatar

Christopher W.

Yelp
Sketch location but a fabulous music venue has been constructed next to the brewery. They have it well setup with food and ample beer in a real chill atmosphere. We need more outdoor music venues in New Orleans and I am happy to have this one.

Yelp
Have you been to Zony Mash yet? It's one of my go-to breweries and is located in the historic Gem theater! Kids and animals welcomed. Check out their insta for food truck pop ups, live music, and other events. Recs: * Mango Freeze- great summer sour * Buggin out- passion fruit and guava sour Pop up review at zony mash from Zee's Pizza: No lie this margheritta pizza was a 10/10. The perfect amount of sauce, tomato, cheese, and basil on a perfectly cooked, in my opinion, NY style crust. The pepperoni was also pretty good, very greasy. They popup on Saturdays from 1-till they sell out. Check out their insta for weekly special and preorders. I can't wait to try their specials and their sauces! #noladelights

Yelp
This was my first visit to ZMBP to watch a show. The place is centrally located. It is located at The Gem Theatre, which opened in 1947 as an African-American theatre. It has a lot of parking around. One can find a lot of information about it on their website. It has 21 taps in the tasting room. I tried the Fluffy Wheat Lager, which was very tasty. Flavors include Peach Hard Seltzer w/ Ginger, Fruit Punch Radler, and Sour | Prickly Pear | Passion Fruit. The choices are numerous. The space is large and comfortable. It is nice to be able to go and converse with friends because the music is not blaring. Even with the band playing the sound level was no more than 85 dbl. I hope to be back soon with some friends.

Yelp
Pandemic Review: I drive past this space almost every day on my way to work. And I've been really impressed with how Zony has expanded over the last few years. But y'know I don't drink beer so I haven't made visiting a priority. Fast forward to this week, and there was a small event for Give NOLA Day at this location and I knew a bunch of people who were going. So I went on over not expecting there to be much for me. Boy was I wrong! They had 3 different hard seltzers for me to try, plus a food truck and a band! Love that it was outside and socially distanced. And while there were portalets outside, you could also go inside (masked of course) to use a real bathroom. Social distancing was good and the employees were great. And I really liked my hard seltzer! Good job all the way around.
google avatar

Tomas R.

Yelp
I've grown to appreciate Zony Mash and love what they're bringing to the neighborhood. What was once a movie theater (their storefront still pays homage) is now a brewery and they produce some amazing beers and hard seltzer's. You can find food trucks parked outside including Southern's! Love the atmosphere and definitely recommend trying their sours and IPAs. Also grab a four pack when buying to-go because it's way cheaper per can than just one LOL.
google avatar

Yelp
The Space: super cool use of an old movie theater. There is a giant screen that they show games, as well as they have live improve and comedy shows. The service: above and beyond. All the people that helped us were crazy nice. When a sudden rush of dudes walked in, they did a great job of taking orders and keeping the customers happy while giving awesome service. The beer: nice variation of ales. The highlight were the Kettle sours and the stouts. The taster flight is a great way to try all 16 beers!
google avatar

Georgette K.

Yelp
If you want good beer- you're in- they try the book good music but have no idea how to modulate music.... Which ch is unconscionable in NOLA.... Paid $50 to hear a band- with 2 celebs..... sound board was horrible.
google avatar

Courtney K.

Yelp
Such a cool indoor and outdoor space! Went last Saturday for the outdoor art market and Zee's pizza. Sampled several beers, including the Belgian tripel and the porter style. There was live music, something we haven't been able to enjoy for months! The beer was only available in the truck outside but the transactions were quick and easy and the line moved fast. Pizza was outstanding! Highly recommended.
google avatar

Nancy O.

Yelp
Went to a comedy show held in the side yard. The space is under construction, with ample outdoor seating on wooden benches and a gravel yard. The inside makes better use of space than the previous resident Wayward Owl did. Order beer at the beer truck outside- can't wait until things go back to normal and you can walk up to a bar, order, chat, sit...remember those days?
google avatar

Meaghan N.

Yelp
Loved the chill vibes! Children and animals were welcome and staff and patrons were all super friendly. It's got live music going on and today they hosted an instrument swap/ sale type event. Really awesome to see then leaning into being an anchor in the community for local musicians.
google avatar

Yelp
Housed in the renovated Gem Theatre in Mid City. Used to be Wayward Owl. They have the best wheat beer in the city. Try #7 The Big Peel. My personal favorite. Soon to be available in cans. Adam has been playing the flavors of a good witbier. Several others to taste. Over 20 beers on tap. You have many styles/flavors to choose from. You will find your personal favorite also.

Yelp
This is another cool brewery that came from a humble homebrewer. Just last year, the owner was in the Nola On Tap homebrewer competition and won first place! Not a easy task! Now he has a real brewery. Dreams do come true! What really impressed me is they opened up with 16 beers ready to go! I mean they came out the corner swinging! I heard they took the time to dial in the brews and even had to dump out entire batches because it wasn't right. They are serious about the quality of the beer. They had pretty much all varieties of beer represented. Even a cider and sours. I think at this point they were more the straight versions. Meaning a Belgian Wit is has the appropriate ingredients like coriander. Nothing crazy. Maybe crazy later. They serve flights , which is really the way to go if you wanna try them all in one visit. The staff is cool and very approachable. Great with kids too. They sometimes do table service and bring the credit card machine with them. Very convenient. I really really dig this venue! I heard that they plan on fully utilizing the space in the future for bands and maybe burlesque??!?! If I was to ever open up a brewery, I hope my location is alot like this place!! So damn cool! Definitely visit Zony Mash. Which btw is a Meters reference. Gotta love the Meters!!

Yelp
A fun new brewery in an old theater space. In fact, if you don't know what to look for, it might be very confusing for you or your Lyft driver. Anyway, the place is gigantic, with a ton of open space. Tables, and some school chairs set up for the projector by the front (which was set up for the Saints game). Dog and kid friendly. There's also an upstairs area, which was still under renovation, but seemed super cool for private events in the future and whatnot. They have a great beer selection. I highly suggest going with a flight. I went on a bit of a sour bender, with #1 Jitterbug (sour w/passionfruit, mango and dragonfruit), #5 Quite Fetching (IPA with mango and lactose), #7 Buggin' Out (sour w/passionfruit and guava), and #13 Jungle Juice (fruit punch radler). My faves were actually the IPA and the radler. Staff is amazing. Great place for a lazy afternoon drink that's a bit out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the city.
google avatar

Cathy C.

Yelp
These people are geniuses! Not only do they make really good beer, but they've repurposed this old movie theater into the coolest venue in town. I went last night for Piano on a Truck on the patio, and discovered Monty Python playing on the screen inside. They were serving beer from a truck outside, and the guy was really sweet. I couldn't decide between the bourbon barrel trippel and the rum barrel Imperial stout, so he let me have half a pour of each. The Manhattan trippel came with an orange slice and a cherry. Very tasty, but my favorite was the stout. I'll be back for more of that for sure!

Yelp
Zony Mash is what the New Orleans craft beer scene has been waiting for. As a lover of all things craft, I always sniff out the new breweries everywhere I go. My trips are often redirected for an IPA, my adventures are dotted with porters, sours, and lagers. And Zony Mash brings it all home. We stopped in their first official night of opening, and I've been 3 times since. Opening with 16 beers on the menu is an incredible feat. There's absolutely a beer for everyone here, even if you don't fancy yourself a beer drinker. The bartenders are knowledgeable and accessible - they even have little portable machines to make sure your glass is never empty, so they can serve you away from the bar. The decor is a step up from the previous ownership, with beautiful, almost brutalist architecture-styled untreated wood surrounding the bar and the upstairs seating area. Very industrial, the way a brewery should be - but with incredible attention to detail and forward thinking on large-scale events. A simple hot dog cart was there for food (yummy), but rumor is that a permanent food truck is planned. The beer: I've since tried all 16 beers, with my first experience being a flight. They do flights of 4 and also sell pints. My absolute hands-down favorite is the "Buggin' Out". Yes, I've caught the sour-bug, and this is the best one I've ever tried. Not so sour it makes ya pucker, but a little sweet with the guava. Very hazy, looks like an orange juice. I also dream about the "Quite Fetching" and "Pillow Talk" respectively. I cannot wait to see what they come up with next.
google avatar

Yelp
Support local businesses!!! We have meaning to physically go here for months at this point but we love their beer! They have a really good sour selection. They have pick up available during the COVID-19 crisis. All you do is order online and you get an email when it's ready. We have purchased their products from Whole Foods before (Brumation-a coffee style beer and run for rosè-a wine beer hybrid both are awesome!) This time we decided to venture out and decided on 4 different flavors Dandy Candy - a pineapple, tangerine, lactose, and candy sour. Just Dandy - a plum gose Side eye- a prickly pear and passion fruit sour And the Zony pop hard seltzer which is mango guava berry flavored (and 100000x better than any seltzer you can buy in the store) When we went to pick up we were also greeted by the cutest little long haired dog. Everything was packaged up and we even got some stickers and koozies. We will def be back for a restock and can't wait to bike over when everything opens back up!
google avatar

Lacey D.

Yelp
This is a comfortable and laid back atmosphere with a nice selection of beers and a variety of types of beer. The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly, and the beer was good! We will return.

Donovan B.

Yelp
Very cool place for a beer. Outside area which is a nice area to sit and hang out with friends or even a quiet place to read and hangout. Good selection of beer and seltzers. Cherry lemonade seltzer tasted very beer-y but the one in the orange can was very. Side eye is a good sour beer.
google avatar

Yelp
My group and I went to Zony Mash based on the recommendation of a Rum Distillery owner and a Chocolatier whose businesses were within walking distance. Coming from the back of the building we saw projected images saying park here for beer and stenciled arrows on the ground saying "Beer". We walked in to see Ferris Bueller's Day Off playing on a big screen and the bartender welcomed us in and told us the very unique history of the building we were already enamored by. After all that, they had a large selection and some really surprising and tasty beers. I drink almost exclusively dark beers but really enjoyed both the King of Carrot Flowers and Heart Shaped Beer (they are dessert sweet almost) while we played an intense round of Uno. Definitely coming back. Even my stepmom said she'd be coming back with her friends.
google avatar

Yelp
We decided to try this place after seeing their beers on cooter browns menu. We were even more excited when we found out it was at the gem where wayward owl used to be. Love what they did with the space! Lots of plants, tables and a big projector they were playing movies/games on. There is a lot of awesome woodwork throughout the space and a shuffleboard table which is free to play! Best beers we had were the Buggin out and the quite fetching. Buggin out might be one of the best sours I've had. But we tried a bunch of other that were also solid. I'm excited to come back here and hang again!

Yelp
If you are looking for one of the most unique craft breweries in the city of New Orleans, then look no further than Zony Mash! Located in a movie theater converted into a brewery, the venue is very spacious, accommodating, and welcoming to a large number of people. This is made evident by ZM's slew of events that the host throughout the week ranging from movies, happy hour, crawfish, live music, and burlesque trivia night! While I am not a huge fan of sour beers, all of their other tap offerings are delicious and offer a very distinct description and flavor. I definitely recommend the flight in order to try them all! If I had to suggest some, go for Hot Air, Tiny Bubbles, and Zony Pop. Bartenders are quick, efficient, and a blast to talk to. I have struck up a fun and entertaining conversation with several of the Zony Mash employees. Dogs and kids are allowed. Plenty of games to play while you drink. Happy hour is typically from 4-9 on weekday with deals on not only beer, but the Taco Cat food truck located right outside (delicious tacos by the way). There is one designated parking lot and off street parking around the area. DO NOT miss out on this gem of a brewery! You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I Loved finally visiting Zony Mash Beer Project! It's a large outside space that is used for multiple purposes. The evening I went there was a vintage clothing pop up, a live band playing music and the burger and beer truck/bus serving up all the delicious items! The burgers are so juicy and really put you in the joy of Spring and Summer time grilling. They have french fries and Brussel spouts as side options. The french fries have a special sauce that you can order for a little extra and it doesn't disappoint. There is tones of seating at the location and you have the option to order you food and grab some of the unique beers to go if you would like! I enjoy sour ale beers and I was shocked at the wide variety of them. Thumbs up to the Blue Hawaiian and the Strawberry Lemonade. This is definitely a place that I would visit again and even just support buy purchasing beer to go and keep in my own home. The only thing that was a bummer is that because this is an outdoor event space when it rained the evening was over for us at the location. I hope you have a chance to visit on a bright and sunny day so you can have the full experience.
google avatar

Brian O.

Yelp
Only know about the outdoor venue which has been developed into a really nice music club. Lots of room. Comfy tables and chairs. Dancing crowd. Amazing entertainers. Can't wait until they get back into business.

Avery Y.

Yelp
Great concept, neat location, but the biggest slap in the face is that they serve their expensive beers in tiny little 8oz cups... I want a pint of beer. Pull up Zony, that is weak, this is New Orleans, home of the Dixie cup. Get it together.
google avatar

Ian S.

Yelp
Great spot, really impressive. The space, former home of Wayward Owl, is well designed and organized for a chill, spacious vibe. The brews are varied and delicious, and the team working knows their stuff. The brewery is kid and pet friendly, but not in a way where it is overrun or feels like a day care center. Glad we got to check it out, and looking forward to a return trip. Thanks for a great time!
google avatar

Nazary N.

Yelp
Just wanted to write a quick up date. Everything I said before still holds true but I've since been back to see a comedy show here and it was awesome. It was a little hard to hear the first act without a mic but the comics towards the end the night were incredible. Them choosing to rehabilitate this place as a performance venue is going to pay off huge dividends. I can't wait to be back for more shows here.

Keeley S.

Yelp
My parents RAVE about this place, so I decided to try it out with them when they came to visit today. Such a cool atmosphere and great beer, the restoration of the old theatre is awesome. However, our bartender was incredibly dismissive and rude through several interactions. She was rude upon ordering drinks, and when I returned our flights to her she scoffed audibly and rolled her eyes. As a fellow bartender, it's disappointing. Definitely coming again and hoping the service is more hospitable!
google avatar

Mallory E.

Yelp
One of the newest Breweries around town, I came during the first week that they were open. With a large number of beers, a great space for friends to meet, and wifi in case you want to "work from home" Zony Mash is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries. I really liked how the staff knew their beers and helped me pick out my flight. I selected three beers on my own and allowed them to surprise me with my fourth beer. I need to return soon so I can see all of their full amenities.
google avatar

Bishop L.

Yelp
The staff was extremely rude and pretentious about their beer. I understand being proud of your work but this is different. Most of all most of the taps were not cleaned recently. Would not recommend.
google avatar

Sadie J.

Yelp
Great new craft beer brewery. The space is huge! They also have a smaller seating area upstairs. The beer was awesome and they have many styles to choose from. Dog and kid friendly. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Sheri M.

Yelp
The trifecta- great spot, beers and team! Got a flight and can't pick my fave, don't don't skip out on the Brumation.

Yelp
My husband drinks beer. I drink wine. But I was just introduced to Stout beer. S'mores Booty is delicious! "Beer for everybody"

Yelp
Such a hidden gem (lol get it)! Well not exactly hidden, but still new enough that a lot of my friends haven't been yet. But I keep telling them to go! I went with my friend on a whim and we just happened to show up when there was live music! And it was the first day of a now weekly (every Tuesday) live music with Marc Stone, Mikey B3, and Sam Price. They have live music other days of the week too. We also went to Tassel Trivia the next day and it was fabulous. We need to go back for the next one, especially because we won and gotta use that gift card! It was so different than all other trivia since they do burlesque in between rounds. It was amazing. The beer (which is also very important) is extremely delicious! They have new beers all the time. I loved the coconut one, it was so unique and scrumptious. There are soo many different kinds of beers so there's an option for everyone! They also have taco cat food which is extremely delicious our and I highly recommend :)

Yelp
This microbrewery was the original Wayward Owl which unfortunately closed a few months ago. Anyway, a new owner stepped in and opened it with a new name and now offers more variety of micros brews (craft beers). The micro brewery sits inside an old theatre (GEM built in the early 50s), so it is huge. I like the new décor and architectural designs they included in the interior as well as a huge projection screen TV for game days. With an overall focus on Belgian-style beers, these are my favorite beers, so i plan to be a regular at this place moving forward. Also, they offer live music and food options.

Ray T.

Yelp
A fantastic brewery/taproom that just opened in the Broadmoor area. Beautiful interior of a converted historic movie theater. 15 Belgian style beers that are the absolute best that I have tasted outside of Belgium. Comfortable and pet friendly. This is a "must" try on any beer tour of New Orleans or to just hang out with friends with some of the best brews in the city. Wait staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and professional.

Yelp
We spent some time here last night and the experience was really positive. What a fun place. The oyster lady was especially awesome and friendly, showing us how to shuck them and what to look for. Overall a great way to start a weekend.

Yelp
The beer is great; I buy it all the time from grocery stores around town and they're really delicious. I'm new to town and because of that I was excited when I drove by their location yesterday to pick up some four packs. I entered through patio side only to find out that the main entrance was in the adorable movie theater they've converted into a great indoor space. But when I walked it it was like I was a ghost. Like no one would look up and say hello or even acknowledge my existence. They had been open for a few minutes so it was "early" in their day (just after 3 pm), but they didn't necessarily make it easy for me to buy beer? I was already there so I bought some but with such a frosty reception I don't know that I'd ever bother going back in person, sadly.

Yelp
Amazing space!! I came here when it was The Wayward Owl. Since it closed and became Zony Mash, it's SOOOOOO much cooler! They renovated the space to where it made more sense. The beer is great, they have lots of seating AND plan on opening the attached building as well! They brought back the spinning sign on Broad St from when it was a tire shop. It's a great neighborhood brewery. I HIGHLY recommend.

Yelp
Amazing! Beer was amazing, atmosphere was awesome. Kid friendly, they were playing a movie on a big screen! They love dogs. Definitely must go here when you are in NOLA!
