Zony Mash is what the New Orleans craft beer scene has been waiting for. As a lover of all things craft, I always sniff out the new breweries everywhere I go. My trips are often redirected for an IPA, my adventures are dotted with porters, sours, and lagers. And Zony Mash brings it all home.
We stopped in their first official night of opening, and I've been 3 times since. Opening with 16 beers on the menu is an incredible feat. There's absolutely a beer for everyone here, even if you don't fancy yourself a beer drinker.
The bartenders are knowledgeable and accessible - they even have little portable machines to make sure your glass is never empty, so they can serve you away from the bar.
The decor is a step up from the previous ownership, with beautiful, almost brutalist architecture-styled untreated wood surrounding the bar and the upstairs seating area. Very industrial, the way a brewery should be - but with incredible attention to detail and forward thinking on large-scale events.
A simple hot dog cart was there for food (yummy), but rumor is that a permanent food truck is planned.
The beer: I've since tried all 16 beers, with my first experience being a flight. They do flights of 4 and also sell pints. My absolute hands-down favorite is the "Buggin' Out". Yes, I've caught the sour-bug, and this is the best one I've ever tried. Not so sour it makes ya pucker, but a little sweet with the guava. Very hazy, looks like an orange juice. I also dream about the "Quite Fetching" and "Pillow Talk" respectively. I cannot wait to see what they come up with next.
