Ron Magill’s Guide to Dining in Miami | Eater Miami

"I've been the face of Zoo Miami for over 40 years; it's the fifth-largest zoo in the United States, and we work on conservation and creative animal care like 'bloodsicles' for carnivores and fruit-and-vegetable popsicles (sometimes with Gatorade) for herbivores and omnivores, and we're developing a cheetah exhibit, a giraffe feeding platform, and a state-of-the-art animal hospital." - Olee Fowler

Both Miami and The Keys Loosen Curfew Restrictions | Eater Miami

"As part of Miami-Dade’s rollback of restrictions, I noted that open-air amusement destinations like Zoo Miami are being allowed to reopen at 50 percent capacity; this change accompanies the county’s move to a later nightly curfew and follows the recent resumption of indoor dining at 50 percent capacity, developments officials described as encouraging given the steady decline in coronavirus cases." - Olee Fowler

I had such an amazing experience! If you have little ones, I recommend renting strollers the day prior online. It’s super quick and very affordable. I decided to do the admission and food package for me and my little one and it was well worth it! I only had to spend $2 for a drink refill. There is a splash pad and two playgrounds that my little one really enjoyed. I recommend bringing bathing suits if you are bringing kids. We decided to do the giraffe feeding over the parrot feeding and I’m glad we did. Overall it is a great trip for friends and family.

Google
The zoo is very big and great for kids to explore and burn off energy, but be prepared for a lot of walking. Some animals are quite far apart, and with little kids who walk slowly and don’t want the stroller, it can get tiring. The animals we did see were nice, and the exhibits weren’t too crowded. The weather was also much better this time. If you want to feed the giraffes or the parrots, make sure to go before 4:00 PM — they close that section right at 4, so don’t miss it. Also, buying tickets online is cheaper than on-site and helps you skip the lines. Overall, a good experience — just a lot of walking with little ones.

Google
We had a great family day at Zoo Miami! The place is very well designed, clean, organized, and perfect for families with kids. The “safari-style” layout makes it easy to walk around and enjoy the animals in open spaces. Even though there aren’t as many animals as we expected, the experience is still fantastic. Seeing the giraffes up close was definitely a highlight! The kids’ water play area, bike-style carts, and good food options make the visit super enjoyable. Overall, a wonderful place for families. Highly recommended!

Google
The zoo miami is worth your time and money! The zoo is very clean, has tons of animals and some you can't even see in other zoos. I highly recommend going as early as possible because walking alone can easily take up 4-5 hours. And the animals seem most active during that time. The full trail around the zoo is around 4 miles, so wear confortable shoes! I also recommend bringing a water bottle, using the misting stations, and buying your tickets early-skip that line! Your ticket purchase is good for 1 year after purchase, so if you have a weekend you can't go then you can easily just go another weekend without having to notify anyone. If you have a group or have kids, I'd look into renting a group bicycle. Everyone can sit together and peddle from exhibit to exhibit easily. The sidewalks are large enough for you to drive. It may be difficult if you're a single parents with 2 kids, cause you might be the only one pedaling. If you're a couple, you can even rent a rideable. I absolutely loved the zoo miami and look forward to visiting again!

Google
Miami! Zoo Zoo is well maintained, clean, organised. its big zoo so you have to walk a lot, so wear, sports shoes or comfortable shoes U can rent a bicycle, animal scooter or safari cycle If you are in a group or have kids, you can take group bicycle in which two people paddle and two people sit so total 4 to 5 people sit on this bicycle water outlets are at number of places carry your water bottle. U will find misting stations to beat the heat It has many animals some u cannot see in other zoo There is giraffe feeding area where you can pay five dollars and feed the giraffe Many shows are conducted(see the time table) Download app it will give entire information food options are there but food is costly there are plenty of signs giving information and fun facts about the animals Zoo has recreated different ecosystems Everything about zoo is good except salamander and chameleon of all colours keep crossing the walkways, road and also u will find them at eating joints ans sitting area so be aware and take care of kids I got so scared that i kept on tapping my feet for 3 hours and did not enjoy the zoo like other brave people

We had an absolutely amazing time at Zoo Miami! From start to finish, everything was perfect. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful — they even gave us a ride back from the farthest animal exhibits when walking became tough. Every part of the zoo was thoughtfully laid out, the animals were incredible to see, and the whole experience was just so much fun. We truly enjoyed everything from A-to-Z and highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for a fun, family-friendly day out!

Thuy Ngan L.

Google
Zoo Miami is a beautiful, well-maintained space with lush landscaping and a relaxing layout. The staff is friendly, and the walking paths are easy to navigate, making it a pleasant day out. That said, several enclosures were empty during my visit, and I didn’t see as many animals as expected, which was a bit disappointing. Still, the zoo’s commitment to conservation and the few animals I did see were clearly well cared for. It’s a great place for families or a peaceful stroll—just manage expectations if you’re hoping for a full house of wildlife.

Google
The Miami Zoo was an amazing experience! There’s so much to see and the zoo itself is pretty big, so plan for a lot of walking. If you’re not a fan of walking, I’d highly recommend renting a bike or one of the animal scooters — it makes exploring way more fun and easier. Going early in the morning is the best time to beat the heat and enjoy the animals when they’re most active. Definitely worth the price — a great day for families, couples, or anyone who loves wildlife!

Yelp
Zoo Miami isn't just another zoo--it's the heavyweight champ of the tropics, sprawling across hundreds of acres where the Everglades brush shoulders with suburban sprawl. It's the only subtropical zoo in the continental U.S., which means the animals here don't just survive Miami's heat--they thrive in it better than the tourists do. History check: when Hurricane Andrew barreled through in 1992, the place got hammered. Roofs ripped off, habitats destroyed. The aviary--the crown jewel--looked like a bomb site, and it took forever to rebuild. For years it felt like every time you asked, "When's the bird area coming back?" the answer was: "Eventually." But credit where credit's due--they brought it back, and it's stunning. Proof that resilience isn't just a human trait in Miami--it's a zoo thing too. Now, the newest kid on the block? The alligator exhibit. And let me tell you--it's the bomb. Florida's most iconic reptile finally has a stage that matches its swagger. These aren't just gators lounging in a ditch; it's an immersive setup that makes you feel like you've stumbled into their turf--minus the danger of losing a limb. Pro tip: come here in the winter. In July, the animals look like they're about to call their union rep and go on strike. In December? Everyone's lively, the breeze is tolerable, and you'll actually enjoy walking the massive grounds. And for the love of God, reserve one of those safari cycles--the giant multi-seat bicycles that turn a day at the zoo into a team sport. Watching a family argue over who's pedaling is half the entertainment. Zoo Miami is one of those places that sneaks up on you. It's not just cages and enclosures--it's an evolving monument to survival, adaptation, and Miami's unique brand of weird. Come for the gators, stay for the history, and leave with a sunburn and a story.

Yelp
Came here with our nephew and he absolutely enjoyed it. It's a pretty big zoo so be prepared for lots of walking They also have shaded safari cycles for you to get around pedaling but I believe the prices start at $54 for the small one which is pretty steep. They also have other rentals as well like a animal themed motorized vehicle ( not shaded) There's a lot to do and see including a splash pad and a playground for children which is great The food options at the entrance of the zoo are great, after that they're pretty much terrible or non existent. We stopped by a few of the places that sold food and the options were awful unfortunately The best part of the zoo is definitely feeding the giraffes! You can purchase a couple of lettuce and feed them and get great photos too. The staff there is always extremely friendly

Yelp
We absolutely love the zoo and recommend the annual pass if you live nearby or have children. Its a beautiful place to walk/run, admire gardens or see the animals. Children have three different areas for splashing depending how far into the zoo you want to go (entrance/everglades, oasis/middle, and the Amazon courtyard/furthest). In terms of food: theres only ONE place that sells coffee and it's at the entrance. Unfortunately, i cant recommend it as ive had it twice and its been terrible both times. The server just didnt know how to make good coffee and everything was watered down. As for meals there are two large areas to eat with a variety of foods like pizzas/flatbreads, salads and sandwiches at the Nourish 305, or the Oasis which has burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, etc. Oasis is my favorite as their pulled pork sandwich is delicious, it includes fries, and the portions are decent for less than $10. There are other kiosks around selling ice cream and nibbles. Pro tip: Don't be discouraged if it's sprinkling with a little rain as the animals are usually the most active during this time! My biggest recommendations are these: another coffee kiosk further into the zoo, that members can go in an hour earlier before doors open (like Disney) as sometimes you just want to go for a quick stroll, and that the area around the beautiful wings of asia gets pressure cleaned and tidied.

Yelp
Just took my family to this zoo for the first time 2025 and it was huge, lots of walking in the heat, be prepared ... This zoo could be better. Was dissatisfied on the cleanup and the boat ride not being available and no places open to sit and eat. This place is great for exercising...

Yelp
My family and I had such a great time at the 5k zoo run. Zoo run includes an entrance to the zoo and they had a beer garden. I have been to the zoo before on other occasions and aside from watching all the animals the parking is free. I have visited other parks that you have to pay for parking. I highly recommend visiting this zoo.

Yelp
I haven't been to Zoo Miami since I was a little kid. Somehow, it felt like it had just been a short time. We have summer passes that get us access to Zoo Miami, Lion Country Safari, and the science museum at Dreher Park. So we took a ride down to enjoy Miami's offerings. It was well worth the ride down. I forgot how big of a zoo it is! They have a great assortment of animals from panthers to zebras to tapirs. It felt like you could get super close to many of the animals too. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes because it's a lot of walking. For the size of the zoo, the didn't have as many food offerings as I would've liked. However, Nourish 305 (right at the entrance) was really good! We got a couple kids pizzas and the 305 Club sandwich. Both surprisingly tasty. Unfortunately, it's incredibly hard to find your way around. The posted maps aren't super helpful, and the official app is worse. The app map doesn't even use GPS to show your location. Bring refillable water bottles, because it's a lot of walking and naturally in Miami it's pretty hot. There are lots of water stations around to keep you hydrated. August is a hot time and lots of folks didn't brave the heat, so the park was pleasantly quiet. If you can handle the sun, it's a good time to visit. I'm looking forward to going back.

Yelp
Zoo Miami is one of my favorite places in South Florida. It's huge, beautifully designed, and full of amazing exhibits that feel like you're stepping into different parts of the world. I spent hours exploring and still felt like there was more to see. The animals all have large, natural-looking habitats, and everything was clean and well maintained. Each section is themed -- Africa, Asia, Amazon & Beyond, Australia -- and you can go from watching giraffes and elephants to spotting jaguars and sloths in the same day. I especially loved the Australia area with its koalas and cassowaries. It's also a great spot for families. There's a children's zoo with interactive exhibits, shaded paths, and plenty of spots to take a break. Even on a warm day, there's enough shade and indoor areas to stay comfortable. What impressed me most was how well organized and peaceful the whole place felt. It's easy to spend the entire day here and never feel rushed. For me, this is hands-down one of the best attractions in Miami, and a must-visit if you love animals and the outdoors.

Yelp
UPDATE on June 16th: I really appreciated the thoughtful response from the zoo. It gave me a new perspective and helped me understand just how much goes on behind the scenes, from animal care to habitat maintenance and even transfers between zoos. I hadn't thought about all of that during my visit, and the explanation made me respect the zoo so much more. While it was still a bit disappointing to come across empty enclosures, knowing why made a big difference. Because of that, I've changed my review from 3 to 5 stars. That kind of transparency and care deserves recognition!! If I could offer one suggestion, it would be to find a way to make some of this information more visible to guests during their visit. I don't remember seeing anything that explained why certain enclosures might be empty or under maintenance, and having even a few signs or posted explanations could really change how people perceive the experience. I know it would have changed mine in the moment, just like this comment did after the fact. That said... I'd love the chance to come back and give it another go with fresh eyes (and maybe catch a few of the animals I missed). If there's ever a way to revisit or experience more of what Zoo Miami has to offer, I'd be all in! INITIAL REVIEW (pre-response) : I went to this zoo with a friend not long after I moved to Miami. Overall, it was not bad at all. We had some really great moments, especially with the giraffes, elephants, leopards, and lions. Those were definitely the highlights. The zoo is pretty big, so I definitely recommend wearing good walking shoes and giving yourself enough time to stroll and take it easy. There is a lot to see! That said, when we visited, quite a few sections were closed off or just didn't have any animals in them. That was honestly pretty disappointing. When you pay for a zoo ticket, you kind of expect most of the areas to be active and full of life. Not just empty enclosures. I totally get that maintenance and animal care are priorities, and that things need to rotate or get fixed up, but there were enough empty spots that it took away from the experience. That is the main reason I'm giving three stars instead of more. One of the coolest parts of the zoo is that you can walk up and feed the giraffes, which I loved. But the line for that was loooooong. My friend and I decided it was not worth the wait, so we skipped it, but we stood there for a while just watching the giraffes run around and play. There were a bunch of them and it was amazing to see them move so freely!! That was probably my favorite part of the whole visit. If you are in Miami and looking for a day outdoors with animals and some fun, this is still a solid option. Just go in with managed expectations and know that you might not see everything you hoped for.

Yelp
The changes that Zoo Miami has undergone have elevated the Zoo it is now. If you haven't gone in a while make sure to make it happen you won't regret it. We went 3 weeks ago and had a blast we rented a bike which was a life savor with this Miami Heat. We stayed for 3 hrs and got to do most of it. Thank God they have dip and dots because it was a must. Animal encounters like feeding the Giraffe was my number one reason for going, you can take your time and really enjoy them. I want to mention that the entrance was $25 at park entrance $21 for kids 3-12 and 2 and under is free, parking is free. At the bikes you do have to leave your id to insure you return them, really easy to pick up and drop off.

Yelp
As someone who comes from San Diego, where our zoo's are world famous, Miami Zoo has truly impressed me for several of reasons: The ticket pricing is extremely affordable. They offer many discounted rates. For two adult tickets with our military discount it came out to only $35. Normally one adult ticket is $25 which I think is still very affordable. The zoo itself is very clean and not too crowded. The zoo is huge. It is separated essentially into two sections. Asia and Africa. Both sections take a good hour to complete. We got to the zoo around 11 and finished around 1:30PM. You will definitely get your moneys worth. They have a great array of animals. There were so many animals to see and all the enclosures felt a safe distance away from guests. The signs were easy to understand and showed very valuable information about each animal. In summary, If you're looking for something to do in Miami this zoo is definitely nice. It isn't dingy by any means and will make a great half day activity for anyone. I wasn't prepared for the amount of walking we did even though everything was relatively flat. They offered multiple ways to see the zoo such as a tandem bicycle and motorized cute animal rental scooter. My calves are still burning the next day but was also great exercise. I would recommend getting a rental for sure if you're older or have a family because your legs will get tired!

Yelp
Put On Your Walking Shoes, we are going to the ZOO!! The Miami Zoo is over a 3 Mile Trail that goes around and through the Entire Zoo. If Walking is not on your Path then Rent a Safari Cycle. Parking is Free and Easy to Navigate. They have a Farmers Market on the First and Third Saturday & Sunday of Each Month. Some Local Vendors mainly selling Goods and Treats more so than Produce. Admission was a Breeze as you can Pay when you get there or can Buy Tickets Online. We decided to Purchase Tickets there about 45 mins after Opening and waited less than 10 mins. Even when we left 2 hours later the Line to Buy Tickets was Short. Once Inside you are Free to Explore! The Map is Large with lots of Space In-between the Animals. Our Favorite was the Wings of Asia! Super Cool Enclosure with Tons of Exotic Birds! The Rhino and the Pygmy Hippo was also very Intriguing to see! Other than that the other Areas seemed more Desolate and Scarce. Throughout the Zoo you will see Small Vendor Options to Buy Drinks/Snacks, you can also Feed some of the Animals (they have Feeding Times), and if you did not Rent a Safari Cycle keep an Eye Out; the Road is Open for All which can get Dangerous if not paying attention. Restrooms are Accessible throughout the Zoo approximately 12. Overall, our Time at the Zoo was something different to do but we left a bit Disappointed due to other Zoo Adventures we have been on. Check their Website for Upcoming Events or to become a Member along with all other Necessary Zoo Info.

Yelp
I recently took a field trip with 35 students from my nonprofit organization to Zoo Miami. The setup and communication leading up to the trip with the staff were excellent. They were very friendly and proactive, even when I wasnt. However, the day we visited was extremely hot, and unfortunately, the animals were mostly inactive, either resting under trees or hiding in their caves. This made the experience feel more like a nature trail than a visit to the zoo. I understand that the weather impacts animal behavior, but it was quite underwhelming for the students. I will say however, the hyena and the African painted dogs gave us the most action. In addition, I felt that the zoo could use more vibrant elements to enhance the experience. It seemed quite dull and could benefit from more signs, especially themed ones like street signs, to add some color and excitement. When we arrived at the Africa section, It would have been nice to hear some African music or see other cultural aspects to enrich the atmosphere. Adding these touches could make the zoo feel more engaging for visitors. On a positive note, they did have bicycle carts available for rent which made it easier for people to get around. I didn't mind walking though, I wanted to get my steps in. Lol! They also, had misting machines throughout the zoo, which many people took advantage of. We had lunch at Oasis Grill within the zoo. The burger I had was yummy, and the fountain Diet Coke was not flat at all. Although the fries were a bit too salty for my taste, the outdoor seating area was nice. I appreciated that the zoo provided a refund for the giraffe feeding tickets, as the animals weren't feeling up for it that day, which I understand. Overall, while the staff was excellent, I found the experience underwhelming, especially given the summer heat. I think the zoo might be better visited during the cooler months, and it might be helpful for them to consider adding another tram for larger groups during peak times. Also, adding more vibrant elements would enhance the overall experience.

Yelp
Zoo Miami is a great spot for a family fun activity in Miami, near Kendall. I came here recently for the annual Zoo Miami 5k and it is one of my all-time favorite runs. If you do the 5k or 10k, you get admission to the zoo afterwards, so naturally, we made a day of it. The 5k itself is so fun because you get to run in the zoo and see some of the animals that are awake before the zoo opens. This zoo is pretty big! I loved how many different animals, encounters, and activities they have here. My all-time fav is feeding the giraffes! Walking around this zoo is an activity already but if you want a faster way to get around, they have cycles available (4 and 6 seaters, I believe) and even motorized animals. you can ride around in. They're a bit pricey but looked so worth it when we saw people going around the zoo with them. They have a lot going on and the layout is really nice. There's a lake area with some swan and duck pedal boats and another area where you can eat and a splash pad for kids and even a little water park! This zoo is too cool and my partner and I actually won a dual membership from the last local pickleball tournament with DETA pickleball club that we played in so we're excited to come back all year long to explore more parts of this zoo!

Yelp
We had a very fun day out at the zoo. There was so much to do in. Our toddler was very impressed. The zoo is absolutely humongous, very quickly we regretted not renting a bicycle in the hot Florida heat however, thankfully there were misters throughout which you could use to cool down. Towards the end of our journey at the zoo, we were going to take our child to the splash pad however, upon arrival, it was so dirty we decided not to. We did not try any of the food at the zoo because it didn't look very appetizing. It would be nice if they had some sitdown restaurants within the park instead of only premade food.

Yelp
Zoo Miami is one of my favorite zoos. The sheer size alone is so impressive. You can rent little car/bikes to help you get around if the walking becomes too much. There are a ton of exhibits, and it can get a little confusing if you don't follow the map (we definitely got lost once or twice) but it's a lot of fun! There are a bunch of different animals to see and a few interactive exhibits. A good chunk of the walking isn't under any shade or trees so keep that in mind during the Florida summers!
google avatar

Luisa R.

Yelp
We have an annual pass to the zoo since we live close by. It's honestly the best since the zoo is such a great place to go on a long walk and get to enjoy the animals and interactive areas. I do wish there was more to see in between the long distances of each animal enclosure but it's still fun. I also love that workers are always around to give fun facts and just talk to. If you do go, early is best or on a shaded afternoon so you can actually get to see all the animals roaming around and they're not hiding from the Miami heat!
google avatar

Anjela L.

Yelp
A massive zoo with much to see and a great price of just $25 per person for admission. There were many animals that are your stereotypical zoo animal like tigers and lions and elephants but there were also some weird/cool ones. There is a lot of opportunities to experience the animals like feeding parrots or giraffes. Bring your own water bottle, I believe it's allowed, because a water bottle is $5 but it's a zoo you expect high prices. I loved the experience, the only thing that docked my rating was treat I looked up if there is a butterfly room and everywhere with looked it said there was but there wasn't :( There's snake rooms, bats, super cute tree kangaroos, two types of rhinos, lots of monkeys, etc.

Yelp
I went on the best day to go to the zoo. early morning, early in the week so a smalllll crowd (Monday) and no line to wait on. nearly every animal was out to see and the park is hugeeee so it will take a good 3-4 hours to cover it all. The lions and elephants were super popular and the giraffe feeding is a really cute interactive experience. A day for the books!

Yelp
While visiting family in Miami, I decided to go to Zoo Miami. ( yes it's called Zoo Miami. It is also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) It's the largest zoo in Florida and the 5th largest in the US. It's located on 750 acres including behind-the-scenes tours. It's the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental US. You can split it up over two days for an extra cost of $10 per person within 10 days. It was a beautiful hot sunny day 85°. I chose to go on a Tuesday 11/26/24 and It was the perfect time. It wasn't crowded and parking was very easy. There is handicapped parking spaces. I got a parking spot up front. There is no charge for parking.I highly recommend ordering tickets online I think there's an extra fee attached, and picking them up at the window.I didn't know to do this at the time, so I just got in line and was lucky within minutes I went up to the window to purchase my tickets.if you purchase the tickets online then you can get in to the fast line and not have to wait in those long lines.Zoo Miami has 2000 animals and 375 species. The Zoo is open everyday from 10a- 5pm.( The last ticket is sold at 4pm.) They also hold evening events, and are open during the holidays. (I would suggest double checking times during the holidays or if you want to see certain animals or attend their Zoo Lights Event at Night for special holiday events this is not included with a day pass.) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND RENTING THEIR SAFARI CYCLES for $54. ( you do have to pedal, but it's very easy, and one person controls the entire cycle.)Rentals are for 3 hours. If you go over it's another $20. You must purchase the rental on their online app. It can be done at the park, that's what we did. It's the best way to get around easily. It takes 5-6 hours by foot .. On a hot days it's nice to rent the SAFARI CYCLES bc you have a canvas cover over your head, giving you shade and there's a place for water bottles,or beer to be held.) Small cycles accommodate up to two adults and two small children in the front basket. The large cycles accommodate four adults and two small children in the front basket. I actually saw some cycles that packed more because they had 4 children, and 2 adults. You can also rent a MINI BIKE which is decorated like a safari animal. It's pricey at $75 for 3 hrs and it holds two people and can go quit fast. It's all open and there must be an adult driver. They provide locks so when we chose to get off the cycle and see an exhibit, we were able to lock up our cycle. You can also rent strollers, wheelchairs, ECV's ( electric convenience vehicles) you must be 21 and leave ID to pick up rentals. They have Safari trams It's $5 for an all day pass. You can get on and off. There is a VIP Tour, Behind The Scenes Tour, and an Adventurous Expedition Tour. ( check for prices.) They also have Upgrades and Activities like-Lostman's River Ride, Pedal Boats, and Wildlife Carousel, Greater One Horned Rhino Experience, African Elephant Experience, Pygmy Hippo Experience, Camel Feeding, Giraffe, Feeding, Galapagos Tortoise Experience, and Parrot Feeding. I saw the Samburu Feeding which was the Giraffes up close and personal. This Station is very popular and kids love this. They do get long lines. You can only feed the Giraffes at certain times of the day. All the animal feedings are posted. For $5 you get a couple of romaine leaves, or for $12 you get an entire basket of leaves. I counted 6 giraffes and they walk right up to the tall stand and you can feed them right from your hands.I was amazed at how calm and gentle they are. There are many attractions and exhibits to see. Many exhibits are interactive, which children love. They have many different kinds of Reptiles which were located inside, and large fish, ducks, flamingos etc. There's a cool Amazon area, which was tropical and lush and several waterfalls. There are several splash pads and water fun areas in the park. ( kids love this especially on hot days. I recommend bringing a back pack, wagon, or stroller to get around when walking. Also water shoes. They also have a gift shop. It's a bit pricey. I would definitely return

Yelp
The zoo is a great activity for kids of all ages!! I love all the upgrades, new enclosures, farmers' markets, & various other activities that they've implemented over the years. The membership is awesome so take advantage if you're local. They sometimes have activities for the adults like after hour sip n stroll. Also this summer has been extra hot so enjoy the animals before 10am! Overall 10/10!

Yelp
This place was unbelievable! The foliage is what really makes this place stand out from other zoo's! I cold have stayed in the aviary all day! It was the most peaceful place I have been in a long time. Just watching the birds and the fish go about their day was so relaxing. We did not rent the bicycles but I can see how that could be a great idea. They seat 4-6 people and looked fun. This place requires a lot of walking! This place is not to be missed!

Yelp
It's a lot of walking. We spend 5 hours just straight up walking. A lot of the animals are far from each other so it's more nature to see than the actual animals themselves. A lot of enclosures were empty. So many animals were not on exhibit. Not sure, if they had removed animals and left the enclosures there or if the animals were hiding. They should just change their name to a botanical garden instead calling themselves a zoo. They also had a lot of extra things you can't do unless you pay. On the upside there's plenty of parking. And bathrooms and water are available in a lot of areas throughout the zoo.

Yelp
It has been a while since I had paid Zoo Miami a visit. I don't think I have been since I was a kid, but I went with my family as 20 something year old and it was epic! It was a great experience for everyone. We reserved bikes to get around with as the park is very large. The park is very updated and clean. The zoo also has cool ways to immerse yourself in the experience by going on rides, climbing through tubes with the crocs, and more.

Yelp
I never have a bad time at the zoo! Love the moderation of how we can order food and the length of time they kept the splash zone open for my kids to enjoy. Ticket prices for the encounter were fair I wish we could touch the elephants like back in the days but we got to make their snacks and the up close experience was worth so much more. I ALWAYS HAVE AN AMAZING TIME

Yelp
My husband, toddler and I went around 12pm on Saturday and there was plenty of parking. Scanned our tickets to get in and got photos taken (you get a free photo to keep). LISTEN, rent the bikes.. we thought oh we'd be fine but no. Biggest regret LOL spend the money it is worth it. We know for next time haha. Some of the animals "weren't home" so it was disappointing but we saw plenty of other animals. We got to feed giraffes and it was a cool experience. I think it was $12 for 16 pieces of lettuce and $5 for 4 pieces. The line gets long so it's probably best to get that done first. Overall it was enjoyable and tiring! Can't wait to come back

Yelp
Zoo was fun. Enjoyed New Year's Day with family. Zoo is super clean and the walk around the zoo is amazing. Animals were great and impressive to see.

Yelp
Zoo Miami is a South Florida MUST DO. You will definitely attain your daily 10,000+ steps after your visit. Each section is nicely constructed and I noticed that a lot of the large animals have a lot of space to roam. As soon as we entered, I went straight to the first eatery, Ellie's Cafe, where I ordered the Ham Croquettes and an Iced Latte. Both were very enjoyable and the prices were very reasonable. Staff members were very helpful, readily available to answer questions, and you could tell that even the animals enjoy their presence. You definitely have to do the giraffe feeding. You could either purchase the snack ($5) or the basket ($12). The experience is very nice and you'll have perfect photo/video opportunities. I highly recommend Zoo Miami and enjoy every aspect of your visit.

Yelp
I think Miami has one of the best Zoos. I recommend to get the family pass because it offers transfer the whole family and the one time fee annual. They also have a splash park for little kids and it's great during the summer to cool down. Every time I go, they have different shows and different things going on for the holidays too. I just wanted to share because it's nice to have a go to place the kids love and is educational and safe.

Yelp
We had a great experience at the Miami Zoo, although quite a few animals were missing during our visit. The gentleman at the ticket booth was polite and very helpful, securing our discounted tickets for Monday. Inside the park, we were impressed with how friendly and informative the staff were. One staff member in particular gave us clear directions, made us laugh, and made our visit much more convenient and enjoyable. I'd especially like to recognize the young man working with the giraffes. He knew the names of each one, answered all our questions, and kept us entertained. He engaged wonderfully with my toddler, making sure she had a memorable experience feeding the giraffes, all while upholding the safety rules without ever being rude. A highlight of our trip was renting the "Rydeez," which cost around $77 for a little more than two hours. These mobility vehicles were fun to drive, and they allowed me to get through the park easily with my child. We also bought a snow cone from the stand that sells dipped bananas and such. At $8, I felt it was extremely overpriced and seemed like a cheap attempt to squeeze more money from parkgoers. However, the employee at the stand was so kind and sweet that I ended up purchasing it anyway to help him out. Our only wish was that we had been made aware ahead of time that some of the animals wouldn't be available to see.

Yelp
Decided to go to the zoo, fairly good experience. I would say a good 25% of the animals were not available, nearly all attractions were closed.. price per ticket was still the same... the one thing that made the experience worth was feeding the giraffes they are absolutely beautiful and the staff that work with them are extremely nice and friendly

Yelp
This is the best zoo I've been to. It's massive! I ended up walking almost 3 miles after visiting each exhibit. It was nice to see how large the enclosures are. The line to feed the giraffes was ridiculously long but you can still get a great view of them from the side. All enclosures let you get decently close as well. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
As a local Floridian I can't believe it took me 20+ years to check this place out ! I was pleasantly surprised how large our local zoo is ! It has 750 acres, and one of the largest zoo in the US. I went on a Monday afternoon, it felt like I was on a private tour; Loved how it wasn't crowded at all. They provide options like animal covered scooter, along with cycling your way around the zoo. They had ample amount of restaurants, and snacks along your journey around . I enjoyed that they had mist stations throughout the park to freshen up because the Florida heat can be brutal. The bathrooms have air conditioning and are very well kept. Some of the animals were not out which was a bit of a bummer. I loved that they had interactive activities like feeding the giraffes or feeding the parrots. Unfortunately , when I went to try to feed giraffes they were over eating lettuce . They informed us we can try but no guarantees. They should maybe adjust the feeding times to give everyone an opportunity. It took a little over 4 hours to walk through everything. Overall, I had so much fun and would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Went for the first time night of lights and it was pretty impressive and considering the real animals are sleeping the fabricated and constructed fabric animals was so interesting. The under the sea section was awesome and the trained rescued dogs was definitely a show stopper. We're going to try some of those tricks with our fur buddy. I think tonight is the last night it's up so if you can go see it and try getting your tickets online. They're $20 buck and worth it.

Yelp
We spent the afternoon at the Zoo, being we were only a short drive from our RV Park in the upper Keys why not. Visiting on a week day was an excellent choice, we were able to get a great parking space near the entrance and the zoo was very easy to navigate due to the low attendance. There are a few things I recommend that really proved beneficial for our visit - buy your tickets online prior to arriving so you can walk right to the turnstiles to have your QR Code scanned for entry without having to stand in line at the ticket window, secondly rent the safari cycle, this is a huge space and these allow you to get to each of the exhibits fast with very little effort, each have a personalized pad lock so you can exit to explore without worry. I enjoyed looking most of the exhibits but everyone has their favorites today mine were definitely the elephants, giraffes, rhinos, lions, and the flamingos ask me next week and I'll probably have a different answer. A day at the zoo is always a good day especially when the weather is beautiful and it's not very busy and it's a zoo of this caliper. Admission for two $50.11 (including $1.00 for a map and taxes) Small Safari Cycle for up to 3 hours $54.00 including taxes 16 oz can of Dr. Pepper $4.60 Total Cost for an afternoon of fun, fun, fun for two $108.71...

Yelp
Overall, this is a good zoo! There are some really cool animals; however, it would have been nice to see more animals considering the size of the zoo. Quite a few enclosures were under repair or did not have animals currently visible. Expect to do a lot of walking. This zoo is huge. They do offer cycles and rydables to get around if you don't want to walk the whole thing.

Yelp
Nice place to take your kids this spring break, so clean, nice food and drinks , nice conditions for all of the animals and also relaxing

Yelp
It was a perfect weather day to go to the zoo, even if just for an hour. That was all the time we had, but it was worth it. This zoo is huge! 750 acres, one of the largest in Florida. You have to be in top physical shape to walk it all. I would have to do it in several visits. We did see the flamingos, which was incredible. Such graceful birds. Next time, we will do another section of the Zoo.

Yelp
Zoo Miami holds a special place in my heart. We've had the family membership for years. Many wonderful memories!! Stop by in the cooler months to see the animals and grab a snack or lunch. During warmer times, have the kiddos wear their bathing suits to enjoy a couple of small water play areas. Zoo Miami is a wonderful location for the whole family, especially smaller children. Spacious, yet manageable to let them run free a bit. They also have some Safari cycles and motorized carts for rent. See you at the Zoo!!

Yelp
I really enjoyed our visit to Zoo Miami! I have a membership here and brought my wife and kids this past Sunday. We took our time exploring and even rented one of those large bicycles that fit all five of us--great way to get a little exercise while sightseeing. The only downside was the experience entering and exiting the parking lot. There was an event happening next door that was blasting music, and while I don't mind music in general, some of the lyrics were definitely not kid-friendly. For a family-oriented area, that was a bit of a turn-off. I'd just suggest that Zoo Miami be mindful of the type of events or music playing nearby, especially considering the number of families and children visiting. Otherwise, a great experience overall.

Yelp
The family and I decided to visit Zoo Miami after Thanksgiving. I've been to Zoo Miami various times and this time it was truly disappointing. Nearly every animal was "on vacation" and not available for viewing. My mom and boyfriend couldn't stop joking about how we paid to basically walk a trail and look at trees. A lot of other guests we talked to during our walk thought it was ridiculous and seemed like a scam. Overall, until Zoo Miami offers something online that lets guests know which animals are and aren't on exhibit, I won't be returning or recommending.

Yelp
I was told the Miami Zoo was really good. Big disappointment. All the animals there don't move. I don't get it. Like everyone. I get the Lions and tigers but the fish weren't even moving. The zoo is huge and nice but way too spaced out. They do have these cool cars called rideables which are cool but they want $70 for that....I was told this zoo was amazing. Surprised I'm saying this. West Palm Beach zoo just as nice. Maybe better cause they're animals actually move. The ones at Miami Zoo one has to think they got the animals on Tranquilizers. Every animal stayed in place I wouldn't of believed it if I wasn't there. No wonder it was empty on a Saturday.

Yelp
Wow. The last time I was here was 10 years ago and it was so depressing. It's like a completely different zoo now and the animals look so much happier. The place is massive, divided by global regions (e.g. Africa, etc). My favs were the elephants and tiger. The large aviary in the Asia section is currently closed as the are remodeling it, but honestly it doesn't take away from the experience the zoo is so big and there is so much to see. There's fun experiences as well like feeding giraffes, going on a swan shaped pedal boat, and a couple of splash areas for the kiddos (forgot a bathing suit? No problem, they sell them!) There's a lot of shade provided by the trees throughout the trail and different drink and food stands as well-- or if you brought your own snacks there's plenty of picnic areas, gazebos and benches.

Yelp
12400SW 152nd Street Miami, Fl 8/25/23 Friday 11 am I have been coming to the zoo for years and each time it gets better. Today was the perfect day, it was not crowded at all and most of the animals were up and moving. The Lions however were taking a nap. It was really hot and it felt like 99 degrees Thank goodness there were places that had shade. I recommend lite clothes, a hat, and a water bottle. We spent about 3 hours walking and my feet felt like they were going to fall off, we did not finish seeing the entire zoo. When you first enter the zoo there are some options like a bike for two or more and also motorbikes. I wish we would have rented the bike. I loved the elephants, there were African and Asian ones. I'm so glad they came up close so we could take great pictures. The Monkeys were cute too, with such strong arms for swinging. The entry fee is 22.00 and one can get a membership too. Come visit the zoo, on a weekday to avoid the crowds and you will enjoy it better.

Yelp
Was there for Zoo Lights, what an amazing event! Gorgeous lights and animals, we had thirst quencher drinks at their Tikki Bar and delicious Ropa Mac and Cheese , Brisket Mac and Cheese! Take comfortable shoes there is lots of walking and sight seeing.

Yelp
The Miami Zoo is "okay" but maybe because of the weather in April for Spring Break, but a lot of the exhibits were closed, so it wasn't a huge menagerie of diverse animals to see. I'm from California where there's the Los Angeles and San Diego Zoo's which are pretty large and the weather here is neutral, coastal, so we can house a lot more different animals comfortably, so I might have different expectations on what is appropriate for the South East Coast. There was one "ride" attraction tour that was an upcharge to the general admission which I found odd and thought it should be all-inclusive as part of the entry fee and experience. It is a large zoo 'tho and we had to go catch a flight, so didn't see everything, so it's definitely good for an "all day" excursion if you have kids who love seeing animals.

Yelp
Visiting Zoo Miami as a child was fun, we definitely saw more animals. Now, there's a handful of exhibits that have animals in them, disappointing.

Yelp
Recently took my kids to the Miami Zoo, making this my first time in thirty years. I was really impressed how much improvement we saw and large variety of animals we got to see. Miami Zoo has become a world class zoo and is a nice place to spend with the family.

Just wanted to say thank you to the amazing management and staff at Zoo Miami. My Kindergarten class has such an awesome time. Yelp
Great zoo with plenty of area for the animals to roam. We really enjoyed the opportunity to feed the giraffes. Note plenty of room for the animals to roam means lots of walking to see the zoo. Options with bicycle type carts and electric scooters to make the walking less. We walked the zoo and did over 10,000 steps. Bring raincoats or umbrellas for the afternoon rains.
