My wife and I stopped for brunch and wow, we found a gem! My wife went to culinary school and gave the crepe a 10. Her bagel sandwich was a 10, my egg wrap was a 10 and they even had mimosas which was great. I’ll be back for sure. Hard to find a place like this in small town Michigan. What a nice surprise.

We visit Chelsea Michigan every fall, to buy apples at Lessor Farms. We wanted to try a different restaurant for lunch. This place was amazing. The food was fresh and delicious. The chicken noodle soup was tasty and not salty. I also had the best scone I have ever had anywhere.!! I wish I didn’t live so far away!!

Zou Zou's has some really delicious sandwiches on their menu (+ they can all be made with Udi's Gluten Free Bread, awesome!) Our food was served quickly, and the staff here are really polite/accommodating. Highly recommend Uncle Paul's Reuben!

This review is based on two visits to this restaurant in the last week; and is being offered both as a customer and as a former dining room and nightclub manager. Their signature crepes (my wife ordered a savory version) were fairly tasty but a little bit too oily for our taste. During both visits the house coffee was decent but brewed a little bit too weak. I do appreciate the available cinnamon, chocolate, half and half, and simple sugar at the coffee station. Their corned beef sandwich is pricey and the portion is quite small. While the corned beef itself is pretty good (and is house made) it is very surprisingly not offered with Dijon mustard which is standard for corned beef sandwiches. There was only plain mustard and honey mustard. Today I ordered the lox and bagel plate which supposedly comes with fruit salad. The lox tasted fine, but the portion was small. I ordered an everything bagel and instead received a plain bagel. There was hardly any cream cheese on the sandwich, and a fruit salad consisted of three or four small pieces of pineapple and a couple of grapes. The quality of the lox and bagel compared to a good Jewish delicatessen was lacking both in quality and size. As evidenced by the very small corned beef sandwich, the very small amount of lox and cream cheese on the bagel, and the quarter size fruit salad, this restaurant is offering quite small portions considering the relatively high menu prices. The person who brought out the food barely spoke a word. When I asked which coffee was brewed most recently, the response was, "I don't know I just got here," instead of "I'll be glad to find out for you." When I went to use the restroom, the bathroom was dirty and had toilet paper and paper towels strewn on the floor. There was one staff member during our previous visit that said "please do let me know if you need anything else," which was appreciated. However the two staff members that I interacted with today--the cashier and the young man who brought the food- -did not seem customer focused. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants, but based on the shrinking food size, increasing prices, mediocre to average food quality, less than clean restrooms, relatively weak coffee, and non customer focused customer service, we will not return anytime soon. However, because of their very fine past history, we will probably try the restaurant again in a year or two to see if positive changes have been made.

I love dining at Zou Zou's! Fries are amazing, some of the best I've ever had. I love the bagels and all the drinks! Great place!

Love the food but very disappointed today. All the tables were dirty and some chairs. My husband pointed it out to the server who got very defensive (no apologies) and never did come wipe tables down. A customer actually cleared one of the tables for them. **Edit- went back today 11/2 and totally different story. Clean, great service and excellent food, although the food has always been very good! Thrilled to see it improved today!

I love this coffee shop!! So delish! The drinks are great! I had gotten their grilled cheese but the cheese was pretty tasteless :( the crepes were great tho!

normally this place has good drinks. went to get a drink and a woman said she didn’t know what to do so she got a guy and said the barista was gone. like 10 minutes later the barista came out and i ordered an iced chai with a shot of espresso. it just tastes like water, no espresso or chai.

We were pleased with this place. Prices were fair and they allow pets. My white chocolate and caramel was not as I'd hoped it would be but it sufficed. The umbiance was nice. It was clean. The counter people were very nice. We'd go back.

Service was not great and unfortunately not friendly. My tea latte was so scalding hot I still could not drink it 60 minutes later and then it was only oKay, quiche was clearly microwaved (which was not great for the crust), and unfortunately the crepe was the biggest disappointment. It barely had filling (like seriously there was maybe one sliced strawberry in the entire strawberry crepe) and not sweet at all even with some powdered sugar, super disappointed as the menu looked outstanding. Sad this was my experience, but do not recommend.

Tasty pastries and delightful quiche. The service is average. Outdoor space is nice and the location is excellent. We have been here five times and pretty much is a nice spot to get a nice hot latte and tasty pastries.

Stayed at the Chelsea House BNB for a birthday weekend celebration and popped in here for breakfast. We got so lucky because it's just a few steps away from this place. We enjoyed their quiche (ALTHOUGH we wish they would warm it up on a toaster oven versus a microwave) the taste was delicious but the texture of the crush was mushy, and TEXTURE does matter. The lattes were 4 out of 5 and the ambiance was very lovely quaint town and nice energy. The outdoors has plenty of seating and we also enjoyed their pastries 5 out of 5.

Very cute and bustling cafe in downtown Chelsea! They have a variety of coffee drinks, pastries, breakfast and lunch items. I ordered a medium vanilla latte with oat milk and their lox bagel without the lox to keep it vegetarian. The space is homey and cozy and staff were very friendly! It does fill up on the weekend!

Great weekday breakfast spot with our little before school. She had a plain bagel with cc and cucumbers. Hubs had the crepe with jam and I couldn't pass up the bagel & lox. It was a beautiful plate and just as tasty. I was very happy that the lox weren't too salty. The veggies were crisp and refreshing. They opened at 7am and we were the first through the door. We weren't familiar with the menu, which is extensive but the counter person was very patient and welcoming. Excellent breakfast. We'll return without the little to try the selection of beers on tap and nice selection of wine.

I was in town for a meeting and had about an hour to kill so I stopped in for a bite. I got the turkey sandwich which was excellent, and I loved the all of the employees, it seemed like a very family oriented, local type place. I also loved that u could get some work done, and they even had beers and wine if that's up your alley.

This large spacious coffee house and bake shop was super cute to visit. We just popped in for chi tea lattes and had to grab some treats to go. I would stop back next time I'm in town. Service was excellent!

Delicious overnight oats and fresh coffee. Great atmosphere for groups or working solo.

The kitchen closes at noon on Sunday! Website says Sunday hours are 8-3. Sign outside the building says 8-2. When my husband and I arrived at about 12:15 today (Sunday) and tried to order sandwiches we were told the kitchen was already closed. We had ridden our bikes there specifically to get a sandwich and then bike ride back home. Big thumbs down on today's experience!

Food was great, best crepes around. Service was quick and friendly. Nice cafe atmosphere.

Well known cyclist stop/meeting place. Outside dining during Spring/summer months. Great for cafe webbing. Sandwiches are premade for the day and wonderful. I had the Jive turkey sandwich, very good and fresh turkey. Homemade soups are over the top delicious. Fantastic take home for dinner. Service is fast and staff is great. Ambiance "woody".

Food is ok, just don't have any high expectations for the side of fruit that comes with your breakfast sandwich.

Love this place! Still a Chelsea staple. She's kept up w the times and offers wine and craft beer on tap to go with the crepes and ice cream and coffee that were the original favs ... and still tasty! A great place for a pit stop on your bike ride if you're using the BtoB trail. So glad they make it thru COVID. Marie Ann is great! Stop by!

Slow slow slow service. Don''t order food. The wait is not worth it. Ordered three sandwiches. Turns out there was no bread. Agreed to an alternative just so we could leave - awful decision. Received my bag of food. It only had two sandwiches in it. I ordered a Reuben - I received a Turkey something. So after waiting 25 minutes we had to go back and wait for them to fix the order and make the 3rd item.... Again wait. Total Nightmare.

Always slow service. This time makes it our last visit. 30 mins and still waiting for 2 sandwiches to go. It is not crowded either.

Not bad food, however I am highly disappointed in the ratio Coffee they serve. I ordered a large coffee and this is more than ones and they always give you a large cup and fill the cup only halfway at the most. Even though I wanted a full cup and have to pay full prices, which is actually fairly expensive. They may have good food but there price of food ratio is over expensive. It's like they're trying to have California prices for midtown amount per food.

I've been coming to ZouZou's for about 18 years now, ever since I moved to this area from Ann Arbor. This place has always drawn me in, from its noisy interior, usually busy, authentic frenchy feel (I've never been to France), it has always been the best bet in Chelsea for non-chain, homemade stuff. The Good: * The soups here are really good! mushroom, tomato tortellini, chicken wild rice, they're all really good.. * Also the pastries, if you have a sweet tooth. I recommend the carrot cake, cinnamon rolls, and lemon tart! * The dining room is spacious and cool, though noisy. * the sandwiches, especially my favorite, the lox bagel * at least a dozen craft and artisanal libations on tap, none of which I've tried * decent, non-burnt tasting coffee The Bad: * Still serving dine-in on terrible cheap disposable paperware. What?? Come on guys. Let's get back in tune. Disposable for dine-in? You're better than this! WE'RE better than this!! * Staff is nearly always 'new on the job', which I understand, since its a small cafe, and a great place for a first job, but its always a tad annoying to deal with. (I still tip large tho‍) * Zero savory options in the pastry case. No cheddar chive scone. No ham and cheese croissant. No spinach feta pockets, or sausage rolls. So if you like pastries but staying away from sugar, stay away from ZouZou's! I get frustrated every time I come in here, for one reason or another, but I keep coming back. Its the small town feel, family-owned, community-oriented homemade vibe that brings me back. I suggest you drop in. There'll probably be a line, and an annoying cashier or customer (maybe me‍), but wait it out and chances are, you'll end up with a pretty decent meal and or drink!

Food is ehh. And they over charged for our order. Menu board on wall must not be accurate. Over thirty dollars for mostly bread burnt sandwich, sauce of lettuce and a crepe.

A year later and the upgrade is still great. I recently had a lunch meeting here and was reminded of how many fantastic meal options they now have. I'm attempting the boring low-carb thing but they had several really great salads to choose from which was helpful. I went with the Cherry Chicken Salad, which is their house made chicken salad on a bed of lettuce, garnished with tomatoes, cucumbers and red onion served with their balsamic vinaigrette. YUM! Iced tea was also excellent. Plenty of comfortable seating for dining, meeting, or just getting a coffee and pastry and working. A great option in downtown Chelsea all around!

The crepes here were really yummy! We ordered- AM bagel for the kids & husband, I got the ham egg and cheese crepe and the family split strawberry & cream crepe and cinnamon brown butter crepe. Hubs and I got Vietnamese coffee and the whole fam split a blueberry lemon scone. The food was decent. It wasn't like, earth shattering or the best I've ever had, but it was solid. Almost everyone here was super nice, kind and helpful. The one exception was, I'm assuming the chef. I didn't see any eggs on my crepe that was ordered with eggs and just came up to the ordering window and asked if there would be anyway to just get some scrambled eggs on the side for protein. I was super chill and polite about asking. A few minutes later the chef comes to our table and sort of accuses me and asks to see my crepe. So I'm like opening it up and showing her awkwardly and she talks down to me about how it's not scrambled eggs stuffed in, it's sort of a fat broken up within the Crepe, so you don't see it. I apologized for my mistake and the chef continues to stand there awkwardly and stare at me. She kept saying she could make me scrambled eggs if I need to, but that she did the order correctly. I had already acknowledged that I was fine, but she asked me multiple times after about the eggs, not listening to me. After I told her a third time everything was cool, she walked up to the front ordering staff and loudly talked about the situation and how I was wrong. It was extremely rude and awkward situation that was completely unnecessary and weird. The other reason for knocking the stars was the bathroom I took my son in. There were lots of splatters all over the wall like it had never been cleaned by the toilet, sink and bench. It either needed a new coat of paint or a few clean. I like the idea of Zou zous and loved the service except for the one chef. I'd love to come back again with the kids and do some school work with the kids as a treat; but it might be a while after that experience. One thing I wish they did differently was offer water refills - either the staff coming around or a public pitcher / carafe. I got thirsty eating breakfast and had already blown through two little cups they provided.

Best BLT we've ever had, and delicious chicken noodle soup. My husband and I loved Zou's Zou's, this was our first time there and we can't wait to go back. Every table was full, but by the time we put our order in, a few tables opened up, so it's pretty easy to get seated. The ambiance is throw-back, charming and we loved it.

The food is good...it just takes forever. Almost 30 minutes for a sandwich and crepe. They are clearly understaffed but the staff is polite. Disappointed in the presentation which included unnecessary fruit that wasn't fresh. (Picture) They serve wine and beer but the pours are light.

I absolutely adore Zou Zoo's Cafe! Everything I have ever eaten there has been delicious. My current favorite is their ham and cheese savory crepe. It hits the spot! I also really like that they are so cyclist-friendly, including some nice big bike racks outside. Set in Chelsea's charming downtown, it has great shops nearby as well.

I ordered a pumpkin chai tea latte and a dessert. Came as black tea (or the least chai spice tea I've ever had) with milk and no pumpkin. She then added a couple drops of pumpkin syrup. Barista was holding the cup by the top which is against health code to have bare hands where my lips will be. Pecan bar was decent but again some health code issues as the person taking my order slipped with the pastry paper and had a bare finger on the bar. I'm not super picky or paranoid about pathogens but.... The cafe is cute and the staff friendly. Hopefully they get some of these things worked out.

A wonderful cafe and bar in downtown Chelsea MI -- we rolled in here on tour on a day off with no particular idea what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised. I got a delicious bagel with lox, a coffee, and a raspberry bar and they all refreshed me for the journey to Milwaukee. Thanks Zou Zou's.

I've known this building since it evolved from the original town pharmacy to this eclectic, happening café. If you like noisy, loud venues (due to the wooden floors & tin ceiling) then you'll love it. What I don't care for... is what was supposed to be one of the signature sandwiches (MI cherry chicken) was disappointingly flavorless. A few large chunks of chicken & an unripened hothouse tomato slice made this inedible as a sandwich, it was largely a $12. (1/2 sandwich with small salad Zou Zou's Special) mess as it fell apart right away. I guess I'll stick with just coffee & dessert next time as the lemon bar & carrot cake I shared with a friend was delicious!

I've been coming here for coffee and the atmosphere for years but rarely venture onto the menu, in the past week I've tried two different things: the cherry chicken salad and the veggie chili. I highly recommend both. The owner here is so diligent and always moving and keeping things running. 5stars- a chelsea staple.

If you're passing through Chelsea, you just might see a cute little cafe on the corner. This happened to me on Sunday as I went out to hike around Green Lake on the DTE trail. As luck would have it, I was ready for hot tea and a bathroom break by the end of the hike, meaning a trip to Zou Zou's would be just the thing. Easy to find in downtown Chelsea, I popped into Zou Zou's and immediately felt the chill of the afternoon walk start to melt away. Tables and couches are scattered around the room, which boasts hardwood floors and high old ceilings. Wanting something decaf, the barista steered me towards a selection of teas, and I found a minty one that was very refreshing. I also visited the restroom before heading out, and found it to be a nice size and well kept. My quick trip to Zou Zou's had me wanting to visit Chelsea more often, and I have a feeling that it won't be long before I'm back there!

This is a nice little coffee shop at the main intersection of downtown Chelsea. The vintage interior is very nicely done and provides an attractive, roomy space to enjoy a hot beverage (or a cold one, I suppose) and perhaps a treat. There is a reasonable number of indoor tables and also outdoor seating. That's a great option for nice weather days, as was the case when I was there. The staff were very efficient and attentive when I visited. I opted for an Americano, which was decent. Quite honestly, it was not as strong as I was expecting, and strong coffee is generally my preference. So I'm giving this rating more on the exceptional ambiance. I don't want to penalize too much for one visit trying one item. Next time, I'll go with a Redeye now that I've calibrated their offerings relative to my taste. But overall, this is a very enjoyable spot for a few relaxing moments when you're out and about. To make things more convenient, it's a one block walk or so from the closest city parking area.

Nice little place. The food was acceptable. I liked the Fancy Cowboy; the accompanying Zou Zou Special chicken noodle soup was rather plain. My wife and our friend enjoyed the Manhattan Kingpin; my wife was unfortunately not a fan of the chai latte. I did find it rather pricey for what we got though. We would probably return when in the area though to try other menu items.

A hidden gem I many regards. First of all the beer menu is actually really really good. Not what I was expecting at all. Not quite as extensive as the Alehouse, but usually has different selections of some harder to find taps. Definitely stop in to check out what's on tap. The coffee selection is excellent and every one we have tried has been terrific. Desserts galore to choose from muffins to cookies. The s'mores bar was amazing! They have a great selection of ice cream as well.

We went today for our first time and cannot wait to go back! We got breakfast burritos, some coffee and iced tea, and some carrot cake for dessert. Everything was phenomenal! We can't wait to go back!

What an adorable café! It offers literally everrrrything you could possibly want: delicious sandwiches, crepes, desserts, biscotti, an impressive beer menu, seasonal beverages (their fall options looked incredible), etc. We grabbed some coffees, and the breve was our favorite. The café au lait was a little less impressive: you pour your own coffee, and the one I chose (butterscotch) tasted stale and plastic-y. It was somehow still good, but I'd recommend the breve. If you're looking for a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), this is the perfect spot to meet a friend. There is a great bar with fixins for your drinks, as well. You can enjoy a meal or snack in a cozy spot, too. I'm not sure the exact schedule, but they had live music from 8-10 on the Friday we visited, which is awesome. Definitely recommend a stop in Zou Zou's.

Tried the jerk chicken sandwich and was very impressed!!! The chicken was perfectly seasoned and I loved the garlic aioli spread they put in it. Everyone was so polite despite how busy it was there too. Wish I had taken pictures of my food but dug in so fast, I missed it!

We decided to stop in for a much needed cup of coffee but ended up with so much more! My husband was surprised to find that they had beer. He said later that he wished he had a couple more that it was delicious. I opted for a lavender honey latte that I really enjoyed. We started chatting with the owner to find out that her family was from France. Before leaving we purchased some croissants.. can't wait to head home to try them!

Open until 7:00 pm, yet ran the super loud vacuum at 6:35 while we were eating. Ordered a sandwich with "black bean curry sauce." It came without it and then was told they had been out of it for a few days when I told them it was missing. Would have been nice to know! I would have changed my order! Sandwich was bland without it. Just an "I'm sorry." No offer to do anything about it like offer some other sauce or compensate in any way.

This place is so hit or miss. Sometimes I go there and get a decent cup of coffee while I get work done- But easily as often, the juvenile staff screw up my order or arrange their social distance precautions in such a way that only 6 people can sit in the place even though if I sat at any of the closed tables I'd still be 10 feet from the next person... and they're rude when you question them about either. I really tried over the years to find a way to overlook all the flaws of this place, but they just never seem to care or grow out of their low standards for customer service and lack of barista skill.

This is a lovely cafe with yummy food and the staff are always nice. But for whatever reason they are incredibly slow--pre-pandemic and post pandemic it's the same. Expect to wait at least an hour for four sandwiches/crepes. If you are ordering ahead, expect to wait an hour once you arrive. Doesn't matter the day or time. Weekend or weekend is the same. Lunch time or off time is the same. Super, super slow.

We were looking for a new spot to try for lunch in Chelsea before a play at Purple Rose. Found this spot, and it met our needs nicely. The menu contains a good variety of options. I got the soup and half house salad, which was offered as the soup/salad combo. Soup was chicken noodle: hearty, but not greasy. Just right. Salad was the right size. The co-diner ordered salmon salad, and was pleasantly surprised to find that this consisted of a salmon filet, served on lettuce. He pronounced it quite good. Diners place their orders at the counter, and food is then brought to the table by staff. Our service was a bit slower than we would have liked, but we were not short of time, so not a problem. Ambiance was clean, casual and pleasant. Would pay another visit here.

This is a sandwich cafe that also highlights their extensive crepe menu. The menu has over a dozen sandwich options and NO SANDWICH BREAD - only focaccia, tomato flatbread, and gluten free. No wheat, white, multi-grain, sourdough, rye, nothing! Then I decided to try one of their many crepes and they tell me they have already turned off their crepe machine - it was 35 minutes before close! So I came here for a sandwich and crepe and neither were options. Never again.

We stopped here for a late lunch while doing a tour of the countryside north of Ann Arbor. Their crepes were a hit. Our hosts had been here before and find it a good choice for a light meal. Each crepe is made to order so not everyone at the table will get theirs at the same time. There's a nice selection of refreshing beverages too. It's a small place with just two counter people when we were there. Order, pay and pickup at the counter. Since it was past the traditional lunch time, there were plenty of seats. If we find ourselves in Chelsea again, I would definitely come back!

Delicious food that is vegetarian friendly. Every time I pass through Chelsea, I try to stop in. I am only rating 4-stars however due to the long wait times. The prices are a little high too, but typical for Washtenaw County.

Four of us stopped here on our way home from Detroit Metro picking up friends from the Netherlands. We loved that they offered beer on tap, since our friends usually get beer while they're out for lunch. My husband and I got the Manhattan Kingpin vegetarian sandwich, and it was deliciously packed with veggies, pesto and melted cheese. We enjoyed the atmosphere in downtown Chelsea, and the staff were helpful and fun. Great place for lunch, and we will definitely stop back.

Cute restaurant at good location in Chelsea. Tried sandwich with turkey and bacon that was just ok. Very little meat and toppings in sandwich so mostly just bread. The lemon bar was best part of meal.

A great place to stop for a quick bite to eat or just chill by yourself and collect your thoughts. Its a little loud for me to eat outdoors, but there is outdoor seating. I've been here twice and only had crepes hut they were both delicious! My first visit was a sweet crepe (brown sugar) and this visit a savory crepe (spinach and goat cheese...on special). The staff is efficient and were very quick to let me know how things work, which was much appreciated!! The other thing i adored was that the wifi password was displayed at the counter and I didn't have to ask! I will definitely make a trip back here!

Great little coffee shop in downtown Chelsea. Quaint with a screen door and delicious home baked goods. Tried the apple bran muffin and the house blend coffee. I'll definitely be back.

Zou Zou's is a coffee shop/cafe in downtown Chelsea. This is a great place to stop for a coffee, muffin, and now wine/beer. Location: since this cafe is located in downtown Chelsea there is some free street parking. If you come to Zou Zous right at opening time you shouldn't have trouble parking right out front. If the street parking is full, there is a free public lot half a block away. Coffee: really good coffee/coffee drinks. I personally get the almond milk latte. The only issue I have is sometimes they are out of the "barista blend" almond milk and use normal almond milk, which does not taste good. It would be nice if they let you know they were out of the barista blend almond milk so you can order a different option if you choose. Food: They offer bagels, muffins, some made to order foods as well. I have tried a variety of food and have not had a bad meal. The muffins are especially delicious. Seating: recently renovated so now PLENTY of seating! Small tables, bigger tables - lots of seating, which is a great change. This would be a great place to come if you had to do some work/study. Opening time: this is the one thing that keeps Zou Zous from getting 5 stars. Zou Zous doesn't open until 7am, which if you are coming to get coffee before work is a little late, but it is worth the wait because the coffee tastes so much better than other options in the area. However, the worst part is that even though they open at 7am they are never really open at 7am. They usually open a few minutes late, which is pretty frustrating when you are trying to get to work. Then, when they do open, they are often finishing a couple last minute "opening tasks" and ignore you. They are worth the 7am wait, but they need to actually be open and ready for customers at 7am. Overall, a great place to grab a coffee with a friend or to go!
