This review concerns the John Hype DJ concert on Halloween night, October 31, 2024. It was touted as a "Halloween Party."
I invested significant money in my Luchador costume but was told that no masks were allowed at the venue. Ironically, there was a Halloween Costume contest in which, if you won, you could come up on stage wearing your costume. However, management must have had their wires crossed because the security people said no masks were allowed in the venue at all. There was one person with a painted cat face and glasses. Two security persons were debating if this constituted a mask. I put my luchador mask on my head and wore it as a cap. But I was told, technically, I was still wearing a mask.
Meanwhile, I pointed out that a guy dressed like a baseball player was wearing a cap as part of his costume; why could not my Luchador mask be worn as a cap? But they said no.
One of the security personnel asked me if I was from Las Vegas. I said, no, I was from out of town. He smiled and said everyone in Vegas knows how touchy clubs are about people wearing masks. I reminded him that millions of us who visit Las Vegas were unlikely to know the inside scoop on mask-wearing in Las Vegas, especially on Halloween. I then asked him if he ever went to a Halloween party outside of Vegas and if he ever heard of masks being banned at a Halloween party. He just shrugged his shoulder and walked away.
At this point, I was definitely crestfallen, so I decided to ask for a refund. A security person flagged down another person from a booth, and I asked him about getting one. He said he only worked security and I would have to get a refund online. Hopefully, I get one. I was disappointed that no management staff was around to address customer complaints, so I was instead shooed away. No doubt Zouk is a great club, but when you have poor management that does not make themselves available to customers, that is the beginning of the demise of any club or business, no matter how great of a venue it might be.
