Hot San Diego Restaurant Openings You May Have Missed, July 2025 | Eater San Diego

"La Jolla —Opening at 1000 Prospect Street is a new Mediterranean restaurant called Zoya , which means “life” in Arabic. The menu will encompass “Middle Eastern meets coastal seafood flair,” culinary director Alex Carballo (Fox Point Farms, Stone Brewing) tells Eater. Carballo is working with long-term restaurateurs, the Ascandar family. It’s the family’s first Mediterranean restaurant — they have operated Pizza on Fifth in the Gaslamp Quarter for over 20 years. The menu will also feature Chaldean dishes, such as hummus, lamb kebabs, chicken tikka, and falafel, as well as salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and seafood dishes. The 1,000-square-foot space will have a bar, indoor seating, and sidewalk tables. Expect doors to open on August 2." - Helen I. Hwang

Zoya is truly exceptional, easily earning a five-star rating! The vibes are wonderful, and the staff's genuine treatment and rapid service were impeccable. Everything we tried was incredibly tasty and expertly prepared. The generous Appetizer Platter was a perfect start, followed by phenomenal main courses: the Chicken Shawarma was juicy and flavorful, the Chicken and Beef Kababs were delicious and flavorful. I highly recommend the Cheeseburger. So tasty and has unique flavors! Highly recommended Zoya for an outstanding dining experience!

We had such a wonderful dining experience at Zoya. The service was truly exceptional. Alihan took great care of us and the owner Dr. Karam personally greeted every guest with warmth and kindness which made the evening feel extra special. We ordered the Family Plate and it was a feast of Mediterranean favorites with juicy beef kebab, flavorful chicken shawarma, tender chicken kebab, soft pita bread and more. Everything was beautifully presented and perfectly seasoned. The portions were generous and easily enough for two people. The ambience was warm, elegant and very welcoming. A perfect blend of great food, heartfelt hospitality and a beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Newish mediterranean spot that just opened up in July. Well worth the visit! They specialize in fresh, authentic dishes.. think Middle Eastern meets Mediterranean. The rice in the bowls has saffron which is nice surprise.. and adds a rich twist to it. The team are super welcoming.. and super attentive. Seems to be started by three lifelong friends For those who care, this place doesnt use any seed oils on the menu. The meat here is very tasty.. can’t go wrong with any of it The pizza is good but not winning any awards Look forward to coming back!

We ordered the Family Plate with fish, Caesar salad with beef, truffle fries, and the Tres Leches dessert. Overall, the food was tasty and filling. The portions were generous, and the presentation was nice. The only downside was the fries — they felt too greasy, almost like they were fried in old oil. The dessert was a surprise; I had tried different versions of Tres Leches before, and this one was quite different from what I expected — but I actually ended up enjoying it. Overall, a pleasant experience and a good meal.

Finally some good Mediterranean food in this area ! Came here with the family and it was amazing ! We started off with the mezze board which comes a little bit of everything. 3 hummus, babaganoosh, muhamarah, and falafel ! So good the spicy hummus and muhamarah were my favorite. Then I got the chicken and beef kabob plate and the beef kabob is one of the best I ever had. My wife got the chicken shawarma sandwich and I took a bite it was amazing. We also got the truffle mushroom pizza we shared and it was amazing as well ! They have a full bar, so we got margaritas and I got the lime mint margaritas and it was so good ! Restaurant was clean, lots of room to sit and the service was great ! Definitely coming back here to try more food !

Highly recommend- this is the best hummus I’ve ever tasted! Service was so friendly- the flavors of the “take me on a date” pizza was unique and delicious. We were only in the area for one night and our left overs were so good, they got packed in the car and taken with us back to Vegas the next day. Please check this place out! We ate here for their soft opening and were very impressed.

One of the best Mediterranean restaurants in San diego. Very close to La Jolla Coves beach. The dining ambience is great. The food is even better. Loved the presentation of the food. The service is excellent. It also has plenty vegetarian options. Highly recommend to try it out if youre around the area.
