I enjoyed the dark contrasted decor. I I found it to be tastefully designed with comfortable seating. Quiet and calm dining experience especially if you have a big group and in need of some privacy, they have this special area at the back with high ceiling with glass that you can look at the sky. We had a set dinner so the components are fixed. I found the soup is yummy. It was thick, it was relatively hot and it goes well with the bread. The mains was salmon which came in a generous huge piece. I found the meat cooked well with delicious skin and flavourful gravy complementing the fish well. Even the bed of mash potatoes were good. However the dessert is just average ice cream which worked well as a palate cleanser. The cherry on top was that they serve chilled and delicious beer.

This location has a long and interesting history in Berne which makes it a desirable location for history buffs alone. The cuisine is perfectly paired with complimentary ingredients to allow for a perfect evening. The service is spectacular and accommodating.

Fine dining restaurant in old town Bern. Good place for a business lunch. They have a small, but fine menu of daily changing dishes. All dishes were delicious, but rather small portions (nouvelle cuisine style). This place caters more to the gourmet than the gourmand. Friendly and professional service. The restaurant is small, so reservations are recommended. Don't miss visting the elegant, covered courtyard in the back.

Best meal in Bern! The five-course meal was exceptional. The deer was extraordinary, and the fish dishes were excellent. Highly recommend!

The place is very formal and the service aptly complements the atmosphere. I came wearing a flannel shirt and felt out of place. I had a complimentary pumpkin soup which was delectable followed by the main course Rehpfeffer. The dish was uniquely flavourful and I washed it down with their recommendation of smooth and sweet Swiss Pinot Noir. Overall it was a good lunch experience. They could work on the interior which I felt rather bland for a fine dining restaurant.

We took part at the special event Bier vs. Wein. To each course they served a bier and a wine. after ech cirse you could vote what fits better. Great experience. The food was classic and good but nothing exceptional. The Restaurant has a beautiful color concept but it looks a bit sterile. Would reccomend for a business lunch.

The food is consistently excellent, and the waitstaff are exceptionally friendly. The spacious layout and inviting interior add to the overall experience. This place is truly underrated and feels like a hidden gem in Bern. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful dining experience!

I've had the pleasure to dine at the Äusseren Stand for a good 12 years now, and I have yet to be disappointed by any aspect of it. The food is superb, the service is always lovely and very down to earth, and even the prices are - for Swiss standards - very fair. I can especially recommend the new years eve dinner, it's a treat for body and soul.

Yelp
We loved our meal at this restaurant so much! The service and meal was great, the fish and chips were crispy. And the lemonade was delightful and fresh. And the interior was sophisticated.

Yelp
So for Valentine's Day I wanted to take my girlfriend to Ausseren Stand as it was highly rated and they had a Valentine's Day special menu for the evening. They took my reservation and when we dined the service was fine. Just fine. We both had a nice salad, some over priced wine(but hey, its Switzerland) and we were served a free appetizer (nice touch). For my main course, I ordered a steak and my girlfriend ordered a Chicken Cordon Bleu. We both ended up having two glasses of wine as well as dessert. For dessert I had the white chocolate pudding and she had the apple tarte - although we both thought it was more of a cake and there wasn't enough apples in the tarte(rather it was apple flavored?). My problems with the restaurant came later that evening (about five hours later) when my girlfriend seemingly ended up throwing up for several hours from what I suspect is food poisoning from the restaurant. She ended up being fine the next day, but she was vomiting for several hours that night. She finally regained her strength in the early afternoon. So Monday arrives and I end up calling the restaurant about this, my main goal being that I explain the situation to possibly just get an apology or maybe have our meal covered. I am not fussed with the money, more just that when we spent the evening at Ausseren Stand that we were going to have a nice night without vomiting. Now when I called, I spoke to either the maitre d or the receptionist - I have no idea but they were without a doubt suspicious of my claim immediately. I was taken aback that our story was disputed and that apparently "nothing could be done". I was told that to have anything done was to be due to a doctor's note and the receipt of the medicine served for my girlfriend's illness. The next step when I told the employee that I thought this was not a professional hospitality to entertain us with - he told us to email the info desk at the restaurant and they would get back to us within the next day. I will post the following e-mail - that as of 2/19/2015 almost four days later - we have not heard anything from them: "Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren Letzten Samstag, am 14.02.15 haben mein Freund und ich ein feines Nachtessen bei Ihnen genossen.
