Hotel und Weinhaus "Zum Krug" GmbH

This was recommended to me by a local winemaker. The food here is excellent: seasonal ingredients with a bit of flair. On one night whilst I was there they had just got in a supply of Steinpilze that was not on the menu. The kitchen created a delicious dish on request. The wine list is impressive and is full of local wines from the simple open wines to top class Riesling and Pinot Noir. And if you are stuck, the owner is very happy to suggest something appropriate to the food and budget. The staff are very friendly and helpful.|Rooms are comfortable and modern in style, integrated stylishly into the fabric of the old buildings. Everything is absolutely spotless.|It is located in the middle of the village and I found it quite quiet. I could not hear the traffic from the busy main road that runs along the edge of the Rhine. There is nearby parking at the top of a narrow road.|If you want to head to Frankfurt, Wiesbaden or Mainz, there is a train station a few minutes walk away that is served by the regional trains.|I would recommend without hesitation.

My wife's family moved from this village 5 generations ago. So we wanted to stay here, and what a wonderful stay it was. Weinhaus Zum Krug was in this village when my wife's ancestors left town, and while the exterior may be the same the rooms are modern, stylish and spotlessly clean. The highlight however, was dinner in the restaurant. An absolutely superb meal. I had local venison and my wife had scampi. No words can do these meals justice. Matched with the delicious local wines in the ancient yet well maintained building this meal is one we will remember for ever. The owners and staff were so helpful and friendly, and spoke excellent English. We had the added bonus of being seated with a couple from Hamburg, whose company was a highlight and an excellent way to share a fantastic meal.

European Cuisine at it's very best. Your experience starts the moment you enter their historical doors. From the Owners to the Staff the service is impeccable. Amazing restaurant...like the essence of "Rheingau". Their 4-course dinner started with a gelatin of pigeon and a green sauce. I loved it so much. Strong meat aromas contrasted by the greenish, herbaceous flavors. I missed something like this in the New World so much... Incredible wine selection.

We just tried to get a table, but they refused to give us one. We are 8 people including two cute kids. They did not want to give us a table because they could not handle the amount of people even though they had 3 waitresses and there were just two tables occupied! They also recommended us to go somewhere else where it is child friendly! Won’t recommend coming here!

I have stayed here for the second time, first time in the modern part, Now as we wanted 2 rooms next to each other in the old part. The modern rooms are nicer and more stylish, but also the other rooms are quite big and clean ( just the design leaves room for improvement ). The rooms can be loud as you can hear when people above you are walking or when the are opening and closing the rooms next to you. Moreover there is a train line close by which you can hear clearly starting from 5.30 am even on weekends.|The service run mostly by family had been very friendly, though. They offered special food ahead of dinner time for our kids at low price and high quality. I did not get to taste a lot, but I believe the restaurant is very good and creative.|

Great place! The restaurant offers upscale German cooking with a great selection of local wines. The comfort level of the hotel rooms are not comparable to a Hilton. But remember, you are staying in an old vintage building.

This review covers the hotel, not the restaurant or wine bar. The Krug is located in Hattenheim, which is a separate village that is part of Eltville. The hotel consists of a conglomerate of old buildings that are directly connected. You move between the buildings without having to step out. The old construction is well preserved with visible beams while most of the hotel rooms have a modern design and high standard. The meeting room is suitable for smaller groups. Phone reception is poor in the meeting room. The service was friendly, caring, and accommodating. Breakfast was good typical German breakfast. Expect bread, roles, cheese, sausage, fruit, müesli, boiled egg, coffee, juice, etc. but not a cooked English or American breakfast. If you arrive by car you can pull into the courtyard and you will be instructed where to park or it will be done for you. Or you drive to the separate parking in the dead end road Hinterhausenstraße and walk 100 m to the hotel. I can recommend this hotel in the picturesque village of Hattenheim.

Amazing food and wine! Had a great experience as the owner and head chef Joseph helped my group for dinner through the food and wine. He paired them phenomenally and his staff his well trained and accommodating. Joseph was (I might be spelling his name wrong) a wonderful host and is such a nice person. Zum Krug you stole my heart! The best food I've ever eaten!
