"In the Matthäus quarter in Kleinbasel, this smart building on a corner plot has housed a restaurant since 1910. The owners, who have already made a name for themselves in the city with their previous restaurant, Bonvivant, serve flavoursome, unpretentious cuisine based on good ingredients. In the evening, you can choose the "Chef's Menu", a set menu comprising three, four or six courses, or order à la carte. At lunchtime there is a shorter menu. The ambience is pleasingly laid back and neighbourly, with a charming vine-kissed terrace in front of the restaurant. Reasonable prices, very friendly service and good wine recommendations." - Michelin Inspector

Good (but inadequate) main but very poor starter. Perfect for customers who have not very high standards and want to pay a lot for very little food. Starter - 2/5. Salmon had way too much soya sauce; Chinese cabbage was served crunchy - very poor choice of cooking and wholly inappropriate for the salmon which is better paired with sautéed not raw cabbage Main - 4/5. A lot better, but at most 100g of meat, basically the size of a main on a degustation menu, not 3 course meal Dessert - 4/5. The size of sorbet which is a regular size scoop is significantly larger than the tiny sliver of tart, about 2.5cm on the wide end

We had a table for Friday night to go there for dinner with our two small children while we were traveling through Basel. The restaurant is decorated with excellent taste while we felt warm, relaxed and welcome. We experienced flawless and dedicated service and enjoyed our dishes which were each for itself very good. The wine selection is small but nicely curated so it was not easy to decide but we were really happy with a Pet Nat from Graubünden and we always appreciate open sweet wines for dessert. All together it’s worth to leave the main streets of Basel to walk over to this gem.

The visit to 'Zum Wilde Maa' left us with a pleasant experience. The 4-course menu was very well balanced, with a vegetarian option available. All the courses were excellent. The highlights were the mushroom risotto and the tongue from Appenzeller lamb. The dessert wein Koehler-Ruprecht Riesling Auslese 2015 was a delightful new discovery for us. The main point of the restaurant was its atmosphere and highly experienced yet friendly service team.

Never disappoint at restaurant Zum Wilde Maa, Basel, Switzerland. We had ensemble of six course dinner with phenomenal wine paring. Assortment of delicious Swiss Salmon Ceviche to slow-cooked Beef Shoulder and seared Pikeperch were part of our gastronomical menu.

Would I come again, unfortunately not. However the food was fantastic. I had the menu with 4 courses, Salmon, Walleye, Veal and cheese. The fish was cooked perfectly the skin of the salmon crunchy with hints of salt and innside still very "pink". Same for the walley. The veal was cooked too much for my liking and was not very tender. The cheese plate was also great complemented by a sweet wine which was by itself mouthwatering. Now unfortunately the only downside I experienced. As we wanted to pay, we asked for separate checks, however she said that wouldn't be possible, we should have mentioned this before we ordered. I said that no one asked us if we wanted separate checks. The discussion went on and the lädt thing she said it was not typical for Switzerland to ask for separate cheques. Sounded pretty arrogant to me which left a little bitter taste for the great food. Oh and one more thing, the chairs are super uncomfortable.

Fabulous bistro off the beaten track in Basel. Food was delicious, and wine pairing was excellent. We liked the presentation and the flavours of the 4 course meal which we recommend as we were very satisfied after those courses (we could not have managed 6 courses). They were short staffed on the night we went and we felt compassion for the wait staff who did not stop all night. The food was of good quality and locally sourced, but the magic of flavour infusions was good but not yet perfect for all courses. The courses that they got right were excellent (loved the cervice) Seemed to have quite a few locals dining here too. Overall very pleasant.

The food, wine, ambiance - all excellent. Servers and host very polite, accommodating and informative. We reserved for 6:30pm and 4/5 of us had the 4 course chef's menu - at 9pm we were 2 courses through the menu and my mother (who ordered three courses) had only eaten bread and soup. The wait between courses ~40-50 min, wine for the the course served 20 min before it arrived. We later noticed that most diners did not have food on their tables and the one next to us received a dish they didn't order. When our main course finally arrived, other diners who had entered the restaurant an hour after us received the same course. It seems like there may have been some communication and timing issues (aside from the extremely slow pace, we were offered water twice before it arrived; silverware placed and removed 30 min before food, my mother started to receive wine pairing without having ordered it). Again fantastic food - but for the wait and ultimately the price I cannot say we fully enjoyed. I only wonder now if it was an exception.
