If you have ever experienced authentic Japanese cuisine even in worst restaurants, you’ll quickly realize that this restaurant carries the name but has very little to do with true Japanese food.
We opted for the premium tasting menu, but I would have much preferred to try three well-executed dishes at the level one would expect for the amount we paid (around $170 per person) rather than a larger number of dishes that did not meet that standard.
The most disappointing items were the sashimi and sushi platter. The overall approach felt closer to semi–fast-food, American-style sushi, served with cooked fish, shrimp, and crab, heavily accompanied by mayonnaise.
Lobster is not an inexpensive ingredient, yet turning it into tempura and then grilling shrimp in the same menu shows a lack of culinary judgment. These are major execution errors that are difficult to overlook at this price point.
The quality of the food, service, and overall atmosphere fell far below what one would expect from a restaurant of this level. The only element that could be considered premium or fancy is the location itself.
The atmosphere is extremely loud, and the music selection is among the worst possible for a dining experience.
If you are between 20 and 35 years old and looking to impress a date, you might consider stopping by for a drink and one dish. Beyond that, I wouldn’t recommend it.
As a restaurant 5 /10
As Japanese restaurant -10/10
Music 1/10
Lighting and design and furniture selection 2/10
