Where to Find Fully Loaded Lobster Rolls in Portland and Beyond

"This local grocer has one of the most picnic-friendly lobster rolls you can find in town — order at the deli, where they will be conveniently boxed up and ready to accompany on-the-go diners along with grab-and-go sides, desserts, and drinks. The roll boasts a quarter-pound of North Atlantic lobster tossed with mayo, lemon juice, and herbs and includes a crisp leaf of butter lettuce to minimize bun sogginess for later consumption. Something to note: this lobster roll is available at all Zupan’s locations only on Fridays, starting at 10 a.m." - Janey Wong, Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Very upscale grocery store. I love it for the unique items you can find nowhere else and for the always fresh and high quality food and ingredients. They set a high standard for what they carry and you can tell. The Downside is it’s very expensive and occasionally can be ridiculously expensive. This is a great store but don’t be fooled. They primarily cater to wealthy people or those with money and willing to spend 3x as much for something found similar for less elsewhere. They nail it when it comes to quality and fresh amazing food. Just expect to pay a lot for it.

Update as of 5/14: We Were Racially Profiled and Harassed at Zupan’s Markets – Burnside Location- Jan 2025 The Security Director at Zupan’s Markets reached out to me with this response prior to today. I am just now posting it because I truly thought someone higher would have reached out to fully hear my side to gain an understanding of the impact this situation has had on me. However, no one has and I think it is time for me to speak up: “Balancing exceptional service with security is, at times, difficult. At Zupan's Markets, we strive to create a safe and secure environment where employees and customers of diverse backgrounds can work, shop, socialize, and build community. We are committed to providing courteous and professional service and equal protection to employees and customers alike. I have reviewed the video and audio from your visit and have spoken to Security Ambassador Hill. His interaction with you was based on specific observations regarding product and nothing else. These conversations occur routinely and respectfully with our diverse customer base.” Let’s be clear: no one else in that store experienced what we did. And we took note—there were no other Black people shopping that day. We didn’t think much of it at first, because we believe we should be able to enter any space freely without being judged by the color of our skin. But that’s not what happened. We were profiled the moment we walked in. When the security guard approached me, he recited every part of the store we had walked through—proving that he had been watching us the entire time. That’s not routine. That’s surveillance rooted in suspicion. And we were his only target. After we left the store, while peacefully waiting for our Uber, we were harassed again. The same guard came outside and told us to immediately leave the premises. Why? We were paying customers. We had done nothing wrong. I had even opened my small bag inside the store to prove I hadn’t taken anything. So again—why were we being pushed off the property like criminals? Why did the guard then stand outside watching us to ensure we didn’t return? Why did the store manager come outside and do absolutely nothing? Why did the guard allow a male bystander to get in our faces and shout vulgarities at us—while Zupan staff stood by and watched? Why did the Security Director conveniently ignore everything that happened outside the store, despite the fact that I clearly included it in my complaint? He threatened to call the police on us—for what? For being Black women standing on a sidewalk? He used his position to try to humiliate us. And Zupan Markets let him. This was not about store policy. It was about racial power and profiling. And it’s unacceptable. We are grown, professional women. We moved with calm and dignity—and we were still treated like threats. Not for what we did, but for who we are. Zupan’s claims to serve a diverse community. But what they really mean is: as long as you look the part. We will not be silenced. UPDATE 1/26: There has been no form of communication from Zupan to me at this point. No one has contacted me to help make this profiling issue.. correct. This lack of communication displays commitment to the treatment I received from their store security person. I will continue to tell my story until someone from this company decides to contact me to situate this matter!!!

A foodies dream! Super helpful and knowledgeable staff. I picked up some soup, cheese and a drink. Everything was delicious, but it is not cheap.

This is a wonderful store the beautiful flowers out front make a nice presentation when you walk up. They have a cheese section that is nice some I have never heard of. There was a staff member to answer any questions you might have about the cheese. They have adorable stuffed animals mixed in with all the food. The cakes, the pies, the food is fantastic. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I really enjoyed going to the store and it’s a place you cannot leave without looking at everything & buying something really tasty & some flowers. Everything is arranged beautiful from the flowers to all the fruits & vegetables that are displayed in the produce section it is a wonderful experience to shop at Zupan’s Market. Be sure to stop by and pick something up anything from cheese or meat in there deli section is amazing!

Google
This store is absolutely lovely! So many local products are represented. Also, it's organized very cute and everyone is so nice. Great cheese selection! I got the "Oregon artisian cheese and food trail" map from the extremely pleasant lady from the cheese section (probably she is the manager, idk, but she is so knowledgeable and cares so much of sharing about local cheese makers) - this is my to do list for next time in the area!

Their cellar dinners are something special! Attended the Crab and Wine dinner and it was amazing all around. Met new friends, learned about Dungeness Crab and was able to eat some delicious dishes. We’ll be back again for sure

Google
This was the first grocery store I stopped by after recent moving to Portland and I absolutely love it. There’s a great selection of fruits even some less common ones, all sorts of different meat products you can buy fresh, speciality grocery items throughout, a deli, and a small cafe within. I love coming here to do some light shopping and maybe grabbing something to eat or drink from the deli and cafe. As others have said, prices are a bit high, the store is on the small side, and the deli sandwiches can be hit or miss. As far as the staff goes, some of them are super friendly, especially around the cafe and bakery areas, and others indifferent to you being there, particularly the checkout area. Still, I do enjoy shopping here and definitely recommend it to anyone in the area wise looking for unique grocery items, cooking for one or two, or just want a simple cafe to go to during lunch.

Google
The staff at the meat department was extremely rude and acted with a sense of entitlement. I believe the management should provide better training for their employees. At this price point, customers expect not only quality products but also a positive shopping experience. Unfortunately, the current staff is not delivering either. Poor attitude and lack of customer support can easily drive people away. No one wants to pay premium prices for subpar service.

Yelp
This is an upscale market located in a nice Portland neighborhood. Venture indoors and you will find high end and reasonably priced fresh produce, meats, spices, wines, cheeses and more. The aisles are packed with local and imported items. Unique in its own way. Fresh flowers and more may be found here.

Yelp
Zupans had the awesome poke I was looking for due to having a terrible toothache and nothing else sounding good to eat. The store was super clean as usual. The werkers were awesome and nice as usual.

Yelp
As an individual who believes in sourcing quality ingredients to make quality food, Zupan's is a favorite go to market for my specialty items and higher end ingredients. The two items I don't typically purchase from Zupan's are often meat (we go in on a cow each year and raise our own beef) and vegetables if I can get them at the PSU Saturday Farmers Market. Now that said - there are exceptions. One, every Christmas dinner tradition of Tomahawk Steaks; a must purchase at Zupan's. And two, mid week unplanned meals mean everything at Zupan's is on the list. While I have two Zupan's relatively close to our home, I find that I will often drive to this Zupan's as I like the layout, staff and variety of quality ingredients available. This store has a great bakery, deli, cheese selections (a favorite) and meats. I also appreciate I can get some of my favorite cooking ingredients such as Italian pastas, grains and variety of baking goods, sauces and condiments and spices and salts. My biggest concern is over buying when I visit because the shelves inspire my ideas for cooking. I bring a shopping list so I stay on point! (LOL) Now that's funny! Shopping here is like a field trip for someone who enjoys cooking.

Yelp
When you need to host a dinner to impress and time is short ~ everything is here. When you need to unplug from stress and do not want to veg in front of a tv, fill your tastebud senses with a visit here. Awesome fresh deli. Tasty beer & wine selection. Personable service with knowledgeable employees who love the art of food. *Parking is a nightmare. Drive in slowly for it is tight, tight, tight. Check, double check, triple check before and when reversing out. 5 star quality food boutique everyday.

Yelp
The most wonderfully unassuming market in the suburbs. The patisserie were so buttery. The layers crisp with that so satisfying crunch when you twist off a morsel. The cheese danish with in season blackberry is perhaps the most sublimely divine combination with just the right amount of sweet from the cheese paired with the just sour enough fruit. My mouth is absolutely watering at the memory. We paired with mimosa and thick cut bacon and were it not for my toddler running laps around the kitchen I would swear I was in a small cafe in Paris. I cant wait to return

Yelp
This is a great grocery store with a ton of locally sourced produce and high quality interns. Cons: closes at 8 pm Cons: many things sell out early (poke, certain in house made items) Few things to know. Anything that is an item that can also be found at a regular store (Whole Foods, Safeway) such as (frozen foods, ice cream, snacks, bars, sauces, pickles) are marked up 20%. It's almost comical. That being said - we enjoy their cheese selection, poke, house made sauces, and floral department. Friendly staff. Wish they were open later!

Yelp
Oh my gosh what can you say about the store. It has everything gourmet and imported. So many specially items here you won't be. Sorry if you're looking for something specific. Their meat department is amazing. All of their items are quality in high end. Something I love to get there is Apple smoked bacon from Nueskes. They also have Carlton Farms items. Wagyu. I even saw Wagyu hotdogs The fish that they have is so fresh and amazing. Some of their items are very unique like the steel head trout wrapped in a bamboo leaf. Several kinds of oysters and clams. All kinds of kebabs that are marinated and sausages galore. All made in this traffic store. Don't get me started on the bakery. It is unbelievable! So many delicious pies, cakes, donuts, pastries, cookies! I could go on and on. They have a really cool coffee bar that offers single treats. I saw a sprinkle Doughnut that I had my eye on! The staff here are super nice, and they keep everything stocked and ready. Did I mention they have one of the best pasta sections I've ever seen? Come, check them out. Grab a hot lunch or some cold items from their deli. Today I got imported mortadella! Extra pistachios They have a pretty good size parking lot and a lot of beautiful plants and flowers.

Yelp
This is one of the few locations near downtown that is required by state law to provide bottle return of at least 144 cans and bottles bearing "OR 10 cent" regardless of brand. It seems to be underutilized for this purpose for some reason. As long as they do not host a green bag drop, you're legally entitled to do bottles here.

Yelp
A Shrimp spring roll, bag of pretzels, tangerine dream kombucha...oh my! I'm living it up in Zupan's market. Felt like a million bucks today!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a busy market no matter the location. I do enjoy the option and variety, since I travel for work and prefer to grab healthy food to bring back to the hotel than eat unhealthy at a restaurant. The options in the deli offer daily variety and vary to a theme, and always have the complete selection of proteins, side dishes and veggies. I frequent Lake Oswego the most, but parking can be a challenge no matter the location. Love this place!

Amber A.

Yelp
It's expensive but literally everything in there is good. Even if you're like, oh I don't usually like split pea soup or carob baked goods, you're going to like them if they are being sold at Zupan's.

Yelp
I've never had to leave a review like this. And it pains me to have to leave one given I do like this store, their whole food products, fresh produce, juices and a few employees that are very sweet & kind. I'm also leaving this review not as a one time experience, but as a gay latino man who has been regularly frequenting this store for over a year now as I live right up the street on Vista Ave. So here it goes: This store ***RACIALLY PROFILES*** and both the security & select members of staff have either been directed, trained (or maybe it's the culture) to target ***PEOPLE OF COLOR*** or those that wear hoodies, hoods, beanies, have baggy clothing, etc. The amount of ***TARGETED RACISM*** I've experienced here is nothing short of baffling. From being followed by staff members, to being rudely confronted and told I can't shop using my own bags, to being side-eyed and given awkward glances- for a few months I thought I was just me being paranoid but no- after getting friendly with one of the security guards, he definitely confirmed it. If you are a ***PERSON OF COLOR***- thicken your skin before entering this store! Unless you look nerdy, weird, queer, white or some other typical Portlander stereotype: you will be racially targeted and will be treated differently, ignored, followed or the staff will be rude with you. It's in the air of the store & it's also with regular (especially white) customers who shop there. They seem to think it's some kind of entitlement or privilege to shop at Zupan's. Love the store, much of the staff is very sweet, but ownership, management, leadership, security & staff need to all be retrained & re-educated on not racially profiling & judging people based on their appearance, clothing & skin color. I'm from Long Beach, California so I have a particular fashion that seems to be a problem for this store. Being from such a diverse part of Cali made me very naive to what I was experiencing at this store but now I see: It's ***RACISM*** which seems to be very much alive & well in King's Hill area of Portland- especially here at Zupan's. You can be trans, queer & everything in between all day with openness & acceptance. But add some pigment to your skin & you really start to see the prejudice rear its ugly head. Do better Zupan's! Stop racially profiling people!!!

Yelp
This location seems a bit off to me, I think it's their service and attention to detail. It felt like they didn't want my business, I was in the Wine department and not one person (there was a person standing 8 - 10ft away) asked me if I needed assistance until I walked up to them and asked about a certain brand. I know what this might sound like, but if you know about this store, you know this is what they do the best. Same thing happened in produce, it's not like they're understaffed, that I could see or busy, in fact it was 830am and very few people were in there. One more time at check out, me- good morning - Checker had zero response, I was thinking, is it me?? Anyway, weird vibe at this location. All & All, I usually don't write about these kind of experiences, but this one was like I was in the movie Get Out. I did have a mask on.... naw that can't be it, right? ... Not sure I will be back anytime soon.

Yelp
Listen, I have a sweet tooth. Like my addiction is sweets! Zupan's Markets offers a wide selection of sweets. I promise you that you will enter and leave the store not disappointed :). Phenomenal establishment! Wide-array of items to offer. The first word that comes to mind is "unique." The store is unique. The overall set-up of the store is unique. The products are unique. Supposedly, Blake Lively has her own brand of non-alcoholic beverages here at this store. I'm not sure, but please do your research and find out! Yes, I'm thankful this store is local and offers amazing products. Check out Zupan's Markets. I'm sure you'll find at least one product you love.

Yelp
How can we possibly spend more than $200 for 2 small grocery bags. This place is embarrassingly expensive, but their deli is the absolute best so we'll keep coming back. Small tip- skip Cafe Umbria. Although its the most affordable thing about Zupan's (aside from some stellar wine deals) the coffee is no good. I bought a cappuccino freddo and promptly tossed it out in the parking lot.

Yelp
Alright. This is an odd review but I can't let it go. On 7/19 I was with my daughter ordering some deli sandwiches when I witnessed a very odd thing: There was a bloke in the deli area scooping sauce out of 30oz containers of Armanino pre-made pesto into 4oz Zupan's containers. All that is well and good. Out of curiosity I investigated what they were selling this pesto for: $11 for 4oz! A 30 oz container of Armanino pesto can be purchased from Chef's Store for appox $17 or roughly $1.76 per oz. Zupans is charging $2.75 per oz for the same thing. Moreover, when I compared the ingredient list their label failed to match what is in the Armanino brand, nor did they anywhere state that this pesto was from a large supplier. It seemed as tho they were passing it off as homemade or they're own brand. Seems rather fraudulent if not shady. Sincerely, The Pesto Police

Camille G.

Yelp
Zupans is an amazing store. Highest quality of everything. Knowledgeable and very helpful employees and staff. Far outshines every other market in the city. I can not say enough great things about this store. Check it out!

Cindy H.

Yelp
Stopped in the Macadam Store today to pick up some items from the deli counter and received the worst service I have ever experienced! My husband and I stood there for about 5 minutes and asked several times very politely if we could get help. Not one of the 6 employees behind the counter acknowledged us or ever came to offer us any help! We were in their sight line and it was if they were purposely tiring to ignore us. I have experienced rude service at this store several times before and do not frequent it often even though it is convenient because of the horrible service. It is quite the opposite at the Lake Oswego store or the Nw 23rd store. What is wrong with this store employees???? I will never stop here again and would advice others to do so!!!

Yelp
How have I not reviewed them yet ? Its one of the closest stores to me and stocks a lot of stuff but lets be honest I am not buying my day to day groceries here on the regular -Reason being its pricey . This is a good store for specialty products and if I am looking for some fun items to add to my otherwise boring grocery list .They have a lot of stuff I love -be it their baked goods , snack items ,the deli meats or the countless variety of beers and not to forget the fine cheeses ..oooff the cheese ! The plants and flowers are ah-mazing here ,So much gorgeous selection to choose from . The parking lot is very conveniently located out-front but is almost always full .The employees are sweet but some of them can border on being snooty but that doesn't bother me much here as I am just always more than happy being left alone .I have read that they had numerous health code violations a few years back but of -late they seem to have upped their game quite a bit and the store looks very inviting and clean .

Brian M.

Yelp
Their food and selection of somewhat high end varieties of most things are pretty on point. The issue is their prices. They are astronomically absurd! This soup is a perfect example I've attached. $13.99 for corn and bacon chowder. Soup. In a cup. $13.99. Same size container of minestrone? $13.99. This place is really just for filthy rich or maybe someone that just won't go elsewhere. At these prices though you could literally have any other grocery store deliver your food for you to your front door and still save privacy around 40%-50%. I'm totally into supporting local businesses, but at what point does making myself poor just to make someone what rich not make sense? $13.99 for a BOWL of vegetable soup. Next time I'll just go to a nice restaurant and have my food brought to me and not worry about cleaning the pot or bowl afterwards.
google avatar

Yelp
For the pricing, you would think there'd be more organic produce selections. A lot of conventional produce for expensive prices. Otherwise, there is a great selection of charcuterie, local sweets and treats, beverages, and imported foods.

Newbie P.

Yelp
This place is a wonderful place if you need to go and find a few things. Please be aware then It hey don't have everything. But they do have foie gras. Not Hudson Valley but a good try. We needed a few things and we purchased the foie gras. We didn't need it any more and wanted to return. The owner asked if we knew which card we used. We didnt . Then she just keep pausing. Long blank moments where she kept retorting with a way to return the item without a receipt.lI just really feel like there should've been an automatic yes please bring it in we'd be happy to accept the return as long as we know it's from here. To me it seemed like that the person was really trying to deter from any kind of refund whatsoever. So if you're purchasing anything from here make sure you have your receipt. And don't bother speaking with a manager just go right up to the register and see if you can return it. That was probably the most awkward phone call that I've ever had with a return question.

Yelp
My prior review of Zupans was posted in June 2018, and I've been shopping there almost every day since then. I've become used to the high prices, and I like a lot of the items they have. I'm disappointed that they no longer stock my two favorite sandwiches (turkey bacon guacamole & turkey bacon cranberry) and they seem to have abandoned my favorite beer (Buoy cream ale) so I've been going less often. They do have a "build your own sandwich" option but you have to bother a busy employee to make the sandwich for you, and then wait awhile so forget that. They call it "build your own" but it's really "an employee makes it." I live in an old apartment building nearby and can't have kitchen appliances due to an inadequate electrical system, so I eat a lot of stuff like sandwiches that don't require cooking or heating. The "grab and go" portion of their deli is nice but has not changed much over the years. They always have tamales, fried rice, enchiladas, meat loaf, pasta of some sort, and lasagne. Which need to be heated so I usually don't buy them. The former selection of sandwiches (ham, turkey, Napa chicken salad, tuna, egg salad) has been reduced to one sandwich only, turkey. They offer several types of chicken wraps but I don't like them. There's too much chicken in them, there should be a variety of ingredients. Most of their sandwiches have too much meat in them, which may seem like an odd complaint; but I'd rather have an extra tomato slice than 2 more ounces of turkey. I've been to their store in Lake Oswego several times as well. Zupans is one of the nicest grocery stores in Portland but they don't introduce new items very often. The newest thing they added to the deli is "poke" which is RAW FISH... which to me belongs in the trash, not on a plate.

Yelp
I love coming to this beautiful store for special products and occasions. I buy unique things here--cakes and deli foods like barbecued ribs. They have smokey baked beans that are worth the $16 per pound price. The Guinness Stout chocolate cake for Father's Day was an outstanding choice. The quiche--yes, it's $30--is grand for a weekend brunch. The special dinners for other occasions are worth price. I order and pay online and pick up at the deli counter. The orders are always packaged, refrigerated and ready to go. It's a beautiful store with caring service.

Yelp
I have never met friendlier or more helpful people! Zupan's Market has exceptional meats and vegetables to the widest variety of market items. But they go beyond your needs to fulfill your desire for something unique, decorations, tableware, flowers and the best bakery items. You just need to go and wander around and savor the remarkable items Zupan's market and staff has to offer. You're going to love this place

Yelp
Beautiful market fresh colorful flowers in front. The produce was pristine. They cater, prepare meals to go, even offer curbside pick up. Food, gifts, wine, ... Everything went beautifully presented and looks like art. Organic products with competitive pricing.

Yelp
If I won the lottery, this would be my everyday market! But since that's a pipe dream, Zupan's is where I go for quality seafood, meat, deli sandwiches and other specialty items only. Their prices are off the chart! Some compare Zupan's to Whole Foods - not even close! Zupan's is the Saks on Fifth Avenue and Whole Foods is Macy's. The entire store is curated like a high end boutique, every department a vignette, gorgeous displays everywhere. For a small footprint, they pack this store with so much variety. Immediately upon entering either door you are up against a seasonal display dripping in high end candy (Sugarfina), cookies, paper plates and napkins (Caspari), serving pieces and holiday decor. For me, it's a challenge of willpower to get past these displays! The produce department is gorgeous, like a high quality farmers market, but available all year long. The heirloom tomatoes in vibrant red, yellow and orange are the size of large mangoes! No blemishes, no cracks in their flesh. Dreaming of a caprese salad as I write this! The variety of potatoes is impressive - every color, size, texture available without bruise or blemish. I could go on and on about the citrus and veggies but I need to get to the other departments. The meat case is is a marvel. Cuts of well marbled beef, rows and rows of sausage, kabobs galore, free range chicken, pork. What to choose? The seafood counter is packed with gorgeous shrimp, crab, clams, petrale sole, rich salmon and so much more. These items are worth the price! On the other end of the store is a bakery, juice bar, fresh salad bar, and a huge counter of prepared items. Once when I had surgery, a friend bought items from here so that I could heat up healthy meals for the week. The selection of steak, turkey, meatloaf, green beans, brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, kale salad was over the top, delicious and so appreciated. I'm almost looking forward to my next surgery! While initially deceiving, the wine area is actually quite large, incredible variety and selection. Coming from NJ, it's always a challenge to find quality Italian staples and certain shapes of pasta, like cavatelli and fusilli as long as spaghetti. Of course Zupan's has it! They also carry San Marzano Vodka Sauce and canned tomatoes, the absolute best. When I am invited to dinner, I often pick up a nice bottle of olive oil as a hostess/host gift, rather than bringing wine, and it's always well received and appreciated. The cheese selection - wonderful - and cracker assortment, nuts and dried fruits elevates any cheese platter. Perfect for the holidays or when hosting dinner parties throughout the year. The florist section is a feast for the eyes, so many types and varieties of fresh cut stems, arrangements and indoor plants. Another area that is challenging for me to resist! I save these purchases for special occasions and get my weekly bouquet at Trader Joe's for $6.99. I'm truly amazed at how many people shop here for their weekly groceries, and I mean paper towels, chips, cleaning products. Those are Fred Meyer items for me. But not for Zupan's regular clientele. Every time I'm there, whether it's during the week, at night, on a weekend, in the morning, the store is crowded. While I am stopping for my specialty item or two, others have fully loaded shopping carts. It always amazes me. Need to go buy that lottery ticket! Can't win it if your not in it!

Yelp
this store has a lot of great items (produce, bakery items, international condiments, etc.), but you would think at these prices that they would get the fly situation under control. I was all set to wait to buy a bit of super expensive halibut when I noticed a big fly, buzzing all over inside the fish case. This isn't the first time that I have seen flies on the food. I realize it is probably difficult to control something like this, but it doesn't seem like there are any efforts.

Yelp
I just don't know Why always come into zupans.. I feel like it's a cross in between new season selection with Whole Foods pricing. They just don't have as much as you'd hope for or for the price you'd hope for or the selection you know you want. I used to frequent the other location on Belmont for their synergy kombutchas. Sometimes the bakery sometimes for coffee. I know it caters to a higher in market which I am fine with I don't understand the conventional produce and meat pricing being that of organic or more quality sourced means. I've had a great to get to pants for a little while much as I have toward Whole Foods maybe I'm just a new seasons fanboy or like going to non chain locations for the higher end meats and dairy. The store was clean well staff and of course they had quality samples and plenty of items you look for in a specialty shopping experience

Yelp
While visiting Portland I managed to drive by this grocery store repeatedly, and each time I passed, found myself more drawn to it. Judging by the outside, I could tell this would be an upscale (thus pricier) market, but it looked so pretty I didn't mind. On my last night in this lovely city I gave in and stopped on the way back to my Airbnb. It truly is a gorgeous market, like the more grocery-focused sister of Dean and Deluca, and I pinged from section to section, wanting a bit of everything. Standouts were the vibrant display of fresh flowers and houseplants, small, but thoughtful mix of cheeses, interesting selection of wine, and huge meat/butcher/prepared foods/deli area. The bakery was mighty tempting, the candy and sweets included on trend Sugarfina and Compartes along with plenty of Oregon produced goodies. And their produce selection was fantastic, even featuring a gorgeous jumble of local mushrooms and sea beans. Heartbreakingly, I missed the poke and Ellenos Greek yogurt bars, so...guess I'll just have to head back to Portland now. We ended up with some of their store-brand chocolate covered almonds, a box of Sugarfina candy, Cheetos, three Olympia Provisions sausages and salami, a bottle of Marsala, and two tiny cuts of cheese. Sure, Cheetos are a bit incongruous when paired with all those higher end finds, but that is another thing I really liked about Zupans: while they tend toward some seriously swanky products, they also had many of your regular grocery staples, and dang it; I wanted fancy chocolate AND junky chips! Life is about balance, after all. So did we spend $100 on a late night snack run? Yes. Do I regret it? Noooope.

Yelp
Great place to shop! Nice atmosphere and layout, have everything I need. Prices are higher than other stores (Walmart, Whole Foods, Fred Meyers, etc.) but you can tell why from the difference in quality, especially in their produce.

Yelp
My goodness.... I want to live in this store. Everything is beautiful and seems to be such quality. While visiting Portland we popped in here a few times for some of their fresh juices, deli meats, cheeses, and pre-made salad dishes. Everything was delicious! This is a fancy grocery store and more of an experience rather than just a simple market for groceries. Given this bit of context, the prices are high but for some items, like the freshly prepared things, they are worth the price. The wine is particularly overpriced in my opinion so I did not purchase that here. I found most of the deli food and dessert items to be fairly priced though and certainly worth the cost. If you are from out of town, you should for sure EXPERIENCE this market - it is quite stupendous.

Yelp
The employees on the floor, great. Cashiers need a serious lesson in manners. Just because you work in the West Hills It does not give you the right to be stuck up & snobby to patrons. Rudest cashiers ever. I informed manager Sean Patrick, could not care less. I do not purchase over priced goods at Zupans to have cashiers judge me on my purchases or how I pay. I can afford to live in West Hills, I am not stuck up to you, please stop being stuck up to me! I may just choose to support New Seasons a few blocks away If cashiers at West Burnside cannot put their attitude in check. You have competition now in NorthWest now, so be very careful how you treat wealthy women of color & other patrons who have been living in Portland longer then you have been open, we will not take it!!!!!

Yelp
As a lover of European cheeses and ingredients, I wasn't emotionally prepared for stepping into Zupan's for the first time. Of course I had to start by checking out their cheeses - they had Swiss Gruyere 1655, which is possibly the best gruyere in the world. Legit parmigiano-reggiano, exotic cheeses I'd never heard of before... I left with like $40 of cheeses. I briefly toured the rest of the store, looking for a few prized items I've started to hoard for stress relief during this pandemic. Isigy Ste Mère butter! D.O.P. San Marzano tomatoes! It was almost overwhelming. I used to frequent Cheeseboard in Berkeley for their gourmet cheeses, but Zupan's is like... no matter what your gastronomical vice may be, they carry the best of the best for it. I felt like I needed to find the nearest fainting couch and lay down. Would I do all of my grocery shopping here? Hell no. Half of what they carry you could find at whole foods for cheaper. But if you appreciate high quality ingredients and know what you're looking for, or don't but want to see a greatest hits collection, this place is a must visit.

Yelp
This is an absolutely high end and high quality grocery store. Honestly, their hours are terrible. They close at 8 o'clock. Good luck on trying to curb that sweet tooth you're having at 8:15. You're gonna have to drive Fred Meyers and fight the bums

Yelp
What a PDX gem!!! I'm new to Portland...moved 2 weeks ago. I am so excited about this locally owned specialty grocery store. Everyone working was so nice and helpful! The fresh fruit/veggies, the homemade dishes, the POKE station, the fresh meat/seafood....the desserts! The list goes on and on. If you can't find it here....I'm not sure it's findable! This is definitely a must experience when staying in PDX for a few days. I will be back!

Yelp
I LOVE going to specialty stores -- in fact, I would even consider it a hobby of mine. Zupan's is different because even though it is higher-end, they don't give off an I'm-superior-than-you, snobby type feel. This location is a little out of the way for me but whenever I do some shopping/eating on 23rd, I always try to stop by to grab a few things. The staff is always super friendly and I remember once when I was in a pinch and had to use their bathroom which was VERY clean. Always a bonus in my book ;) More recently, I came by to pick up flowers for a birthday. They allowed for fully custom and pre-made arrangements in brown paper and some twill that made me feel like they had come fresh from the farmer's market. The florists were all very attentive and helpful! After spending a long time trying to figure out what I wanted, I ended up going with a pre-made bundle. The entire process was a very good experience and I would definitely recommend checking out their selection (as they also offer beautiful packaged arrangements in vases and other vessels) for every occasion.

Yelp
Sup Zupan's? ... Besides your prices? Good Lord, this is one pricey market. Luckily, the high prices match the high quality of the meats, veggies, fruits, wines, cheese, bakery, drinks, deli, seafood, and staples throughout the store. Zupan's appears to also be one of the most popular trendy supermarkets in Portland. The parking lot and aisles were packed. The selection is fairly limited to upscale and local brands leaning towards organic and healthier options. Pro tip: Cronuts sold in the bakery are high in-demand and expensive, but if Zupan's has any left at 3:00 pm, you can score a package of a dozen for $10. Pro tip 2: A Walk in the Park Smoothie is a healthy (maybe) and memorable (definitely) blend of Avocado, Romaine, Cucumber, Celery, Ginger, Apple, Mint, and Lime with Coconut Juice. Pro tip 3: Poke ... Poke ... Poke!!! Zupan's may be pricey, but the quality and hip brands are up there, too.

Yelp
Zupan's is just simply a beautiful market with lots of lovely high end culinary goodies. It is probably the most pricy grocery market in PDX but they do have many gourmet items one can't get elsewhere. I used to go more often when they had a store in the SE but hardly ever find my way there now.

Yelp
Absolutely in love with this place because they have ELLENOS YOGHURT. Thank you for making my weekend getaway to Portland extra special. I have been a fan of Ellenos Greek Yoghurt since my last trip to Seattle and boy, I was so happy when I found out that Zupan Market has a small Ellenos stand. I was kinda disappointed that I couldn't bring back the yoghurt back to LA. Well, I guess that is what makes the yoghurt special, they don't use any preservative so the yoghurt has to be eaten right away. I had the 8oz mango greek yoghurt and my friend ordered the unicorn greek yoghurt (dragonfruit with a hint of mango). The mango yoghurt was as good as I remembered, probably better. The unicorn was actually really really good. All of my friends liked that one better than the mango because it was less tart and sweeter. I loved both of them (I'm totally biased when it comes to greek yoghurt). The price is also very reasonable, $3.99 for 8oz yoghurt, unlike Go Greek here that charges like $8-9 for the same amount of yoghurt (or might be less). I really really pray, wish, hope that someday Ellenos will open a shop here in LA! Pleaseeee, pretty please. I promise that I will be your loyal customer.

Yelp
I have shopped at Zupan's on West Burnside before. It was in 2001, 2002, and 2003. The parking lot at Zupan's is mostly always full... so I walked from the nearby TriMet (that's the Public Transit) stops nearby. There are nearly all the foods that you'd typically find at a Niche grocery store. Also, don't forget your wallet. There is only one safe place to turn into the parking lot at Zupan's when you are headed West on Burnside (that's the main street going East West). And that's at the intersection of Northwest 23rd Avenue - which is Southwest Vista Avenue on the Southside of Burnside (that's the same side as the parking lot of Zupan's). Sometimes, it's better to take a right turn onto NW 23 Place....it's the next right past NW 23rd Avenue... just past the Two story building on the Northwest Corner the far corner across from the Homestreet Bank. Then you turn right onto NW Westover Road, and cross straight through the intersection at NW 23rd and West Burnside... at the light and then turn right into the Zupan's parking lot.... if there's any spaces available. There's always a good selection of Dinner Rolls at Zupan's as well. There is even a Seafood and Deli Section inside Zupan's. Previous to 2005 I went usually once or twice a month between August and October. Back then, there were not a lot of Shopping Carts... but there were a lot of Shopping Baskets. And don't forget to buy Two Percent Milk for your home brewed Latte'.

Yelp
Just had a bad interaction while trying to buy some of fish. A very rude young petite blond woman working in the fish and meat section assisted me. I asked her to give me a piece of salmon for a the thickest piece of fish in the front of the case. I showed her very specifically with my hands about two inches. She repeated to me a pound and a half. Which was the size of the whole piece. I said no that I just wanted a smaller portion. She proceeded to take out a much thinner piece of fish and started cutting it off. I stopped her and told her I wanted the thicker piece. She argued with me and said this one is thick! I said I would like the one I pointed out. She starred at me. I said I guess I will take the first one. She wrapped it up and gave it to me. So I had to pay $44.00 for a piece of fish. Instead of what I wanted which was about half of that. Plus she was rude! Such bad customer service in this store. If I did not live in the neighborhood I would never come here. It is just terrible.

Yelp
If you through Whole Foods was fancy, wait until you come to shop here. The purpose of the store is basically the same. There's an area with prepared food to go. But they also have a fresh smoothie and juice bar and a gluten free cafe/bakery. They sell lots of groceries that will meet anyone's specific needs. From organic to grass fed to vegan to gluten free. There's something for even the most restrictive of diets. Zupans also has a much more extensive collection of home goods. And these look much nicer than the ones offered at Whole Foods. Fancy candles and Christmas decorations were for sale throughout the store. They even have Rebecca Minkoff Rose for sale. Not the place to hit up when your on a budget however. But was very nice to see how the other half lives ;)

Yelp
I stopped by this store as I was leaving the Starbucks next door. Being that i wasn't from the area I was curious to see what they sold because I was looking to buy a gift basket or a plant/flowers to take to a friend we were going to visit up in Washington. I walked in and inquired about a custom gift basket. James was great and helped me pick some wine, chocolate and candy. He was so helpful that I decided to get 2 baskets because I was going to visit 2 different friends. I got excellent service and both my friends LOVED their baskets. Kyi was the one who helped package and wrap them. Where else would you enter and shop for your custom gift basket items, receive outstanding service and walk out in 30 mins with the 2 most beautiful baskets? Thank you James and Kyi for your help.

Yelp
Love their options and especially the bakery. I really miss when they were open later though. Most people eat dinner at 7 and after that, sometimes people want a nice beer or dessert. Not everyone wants to go to a bar for that. 8pm is too early for a grocery store to close. Hope they get staffed for later summer nights soon :)

Yelp
UPDATE FOR CELLAR Z: I wanted to update my review to include the few events I've attended at Cellar Z. The first was a Thanksgiving wine tasting with salami and cheese, the second was a champagne tasting in an educational setting. Cellar Z is a wonderful event space but afaik is only open during events. I wish the events were more plentiful and more affordable (minus one star) but I really enjoyed both I went to down in the basement. It is lush dark red toned woods, surrounded by a wine cellar of rare bottles, magnums, Jeroboams, and even a Methuselah or two. Super cool, intimate space. If the event says it's educational, it's probably going to involve a pen and a powerpoint. I do wish for the champagne event there were grazing snacks before the actual tasting. To sit through the presentation, served with our plates in front of us with food, and our drinks poured but to sit for at least a half hour smelling the food was a bit inconsiderate. Even asking for water seemed gauche. Give us a little bowl of pretzels or a handful of almonds, something to munch on before we actually get into the tasting. A few orange slices. Something. And leave water pitchers on the table. There were only 10-15 people, put out two pitchers so people can at least serve themselves water. For $25-35 I shouldn't feel bad asking for water. You can tell the staff care about the presentation (flowers, napkins, silverware, linens) and are knowledgeable if you ask a question. I am def interested in attending more events here, as well as the breezeway at Lake Oswego/SW Zupan's. They should just be a bit more affordable; $85 is a lot for one meal. Something in the $25 range. $25 is still a lot for a lunch.

Yelp
I average about $500 a month here but the staff have become very rude. I use to feel so welcome and now no one says anything to you when you check out. They just ring your items up and hand you the bag. If they have anything to say it is very terse. I feel that since I'm spending so much money here I should leave feeling GREAT but instead I get the opposite. I recommend spending your money elsewhere where you leave feeling like it was a good experience. New Seasons isn't too far away.
