The Best Lobster Rolls in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"This local grocer has one of the most picnic-friendly lobster rolls you can find in town — order at the deli, where they will be conveniently boxed up and ready to accompany on-the-go diners along with grab-and-go sides, desserts, and drinks. The roll boasts a quarter-pound of North Atlantic lobster tossed with mayo, lemon juice, and herbs and includes a crisp leaf of butter lettuce to minimize bun sogginess for later consumption. Something to note: this lobster roll is available at all Zupan’s locations only on Fridays, starting at 10 a.m." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Fabulous fancy grocer! Excellent produce, huge meat selection, bakery and deli is notable, wish I lived closer to go more often. Extremely helpful, cheerful staff.

Google
For a high end market, they do have a good selection of local/regional products. Did purchase a bouquet of flowers for $30 and added additional roses a la carte ($6 each) and the roses didn't even last 2 days which is bit of a bummer. The $48 bouquet was a bit of a let down. But I do love their fresh made chocolate chip cookies.

Google
Very rude and dismissive manager. Their store is on a list our manufacturer coupon works at, their name is clearly on it as well as a number to call if they had questions, and he just dismissed us entirely saying they won’t take it and said sorry walking away like we are not worth his time. No resolution, or offer of removing themselves from the program, just dismissive and uncaring about us as customers over a $25 Holiday manufacturer coupon. This is not the Zupan Experience I’m used to and will not recommend them anymore.

Google
Zupan's Markets on Macadam is a fantastic spot for high-quality groceries and gourmet items. The produce is fresh, the deli offers delicious options, and the wine and craft beer selection is impressive. The store is clean, well-organized, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. While prices can be a bit high, the quality and selection make it worth it. Perfect for specialty items or a premium shopping experience!

When we moved to Portland 15 years ago, this was our closest grocery store. We always felt welcomed! I still come here, whenever I go to our old dentist. The selection is amazing, and the staff is lovely, and warm!

Google
Convenient parking off 43. Large parking lot. Well laid out aisles. Overall a wide selection of food and other merchandise. Friendly staff asking if they can help. Prices on the high end but I wanted good cheeses for some recipes I'm making. Nice assortment of local food including baked goods. I would only go here for gourmet food not everyday staples.

Google
The Produce is top notch fresh and delicious, the wonderful meat counter and cold cuts are for charcuterie board perfection! So many fantastic cheeses. I am in Love with their Balsamic and all of the employees are just so delightful!

Yelp
I know this is supposed to be a review for a locally owned grocery store, which by the way, is one of my all time favorite locally owned small chain grocery stores, ever!. But I was so touched by an act of one of their employees, that I wanted to share my experience. Jenny in the floral department at the Macadam Zupans is an angel. She has an eye for design and seems to just know the perfect arrangement to create for any person and any occasion. The holidays are a struggle for me and so I decided that I wanted an arrangement to keep by my bedside for the coming days. Jenny created such a lovely arrangement for me with so many little extra touches (glitter, greenery and a little nutcracker to guide me through the next few days). While that alone would be worthy of a perfect review, Jenny herself is an angel walking amongst us. She gave me words of encouragement and was so kind to me that I left feeling more hopeful than when I walked in. Thank you Jenny in floral. Please know that your kind words and gentleness with me today deeply impacted me and gave me hope to get through the next few days. In deep appreciation!

Yelp
$224 for 1 bag of groceries, limited meat and no alcohol. Look, their selection is outstanding but prices have gone up to ridiculous levels. I brought in 1 bag, Zupans bag and it was $224. Was putting you charcuterie board for visiting family. Bought some dips, crackers cheeses, 2 salamis, cookies, nuts, some staples (milk, oj). I almost threw up but sucked it up. I did put back their cut veggie tray that was $18 (too expensive!) 2-3 years ago as its $27 now. I can no longer shop here. Funny thing is I went to a close by high end grocery as I didn't get everything I needed at Zupans. Literally saw products I just bought $1-$2-$3+ cheaper. I used to love it here, now they're just gouging people. 1 bag for $224...and no big item. Most expensive was a $17.99 summer sausage (which seriously was not worth it). I bid you a fond farewell Zupans.

Yelp
After reading the last review I felt like I had to keep it 100% on this Zupans. Look, yes, it's expensive and to be frank, out of my pay grade for every week shopping, but quality costs money and there are so many items you will not find anywhere else with this attention to detail. Here is what brings me here about once, twice a Month. Kabobs - The best in Portland Wine Sommelier - Professional, helpful and generous Snacks - crunchy, nut mixes are bomb (Inferno Mixture) Red Sauces - great option on organic imported amazing sauces Sausages - Their house made sausages are really tasty (Tex-Mex) Cookies - Store made ones by the coffee area, addicting. Flowers - Always presentable Roast Beef Sandwiches - If they have them buy them Fish - Sashimi grade (use it to make ceviche) Staff - Meat and fish department, always helpful and knowledgeable The folks in the fruit and vegetable dept are really generous. One checker is a bit on the grumpy side, but most are welcoming. All & All - To be totally transparent, the Zupans on Burnside has some race, ethnicity issues that keep my brown skin away. Having said that, I have only had good experiences here at this store. No one following me around the store or profiling that I noticed. Not to say it hasn't happened to other POC and if I would ever see that, I would be updating this review as well as formal complaint.

Yelp
I love this store for so many reasons, except the cashiers are consistently the rudest people I interact with in any retail space in Portland. I know they can't compete with New Seasons staff who are the kindest, most helpful people on the planet, but Zupans cashiers are downright surly and seem to be so bothered that I chose to shop there today. I don't think I'll come back to this location again.

Yelp
I LOVE Zupan's. Just not this one. I have been driving over to Lake Oswego when I want to buy more that one or two items. I use to live on the Westside and shop at the Zupan's on Burnside. If I was feeling a little down and moody I would just spend some time in the Burnside store, buy a few cool things, and come out feeling refreshed. The clientele there is a kick in the pants and it is a great place to people watch. I knew the meat and fish guys by name and we exchanged Holiday treats. Then I moved. Now my closest store is this one. It is so loud! My watch went off warning me that it was over 90 decibels the other day. The carts squeak and it is so annoying. The whiskey sour mix is frequently sold out. Why? If it is a good seller then just stock more! The most positive thing I can say is that their meat and fish is the best in the city. In fact, I will not eat meat from anywhere but a Zupan's. Turn the music down. How about some jazz? Watch your blueberry prices! Train your employees how to bag and do not put the bananas under the cantaloupe. And do not charge $10.00 for a serving of potato salad. Oh! put some red wine vinegar in your coleslaw. It tastes like cabbage and sour cream. And buy some new carts.

Yelp
My upscale 7-11 store. I live in the neighborhood and Zupan's is the closest grocery store, the next closest is Burlingame Fred Meyer. I really like Zupan's, in fact everything about the store is great! The people are nice and friendly, the produce is amazing, you can find cool products not available in the bigger supermarkets, the deli counter has amazing food and deserts, the sandwiches are best in the city! The butcher is great, beautiful cuts of meat and their home made sausages are the best I've had. And the wine selection is amazing. So why three stars?? PRICES!!! Zupans is quite literally the most expensive grocery store in the city! You will pay at least 20% more on all products in the store and sometimes much higher. I come here for one or two items when I don't want to run up to Freddy's, so I'll pay an extra buck for a an avocado or pint of milk. Basically it's like a 7-11 for us. If you look, most people shopping at Zupans do the same thing. A few items at the checkout stand, very few people are doing their weekly grocery runs here. If Zupan's could figure out the whole volume thing I think they would make a lot more money on lots of people shopping for more items then they do with fewer people buying just a few items. Clearly the model hasn't worked that well since they have closed several stores.

Yelp
I'm pretty mad that this was what I got idk why there's so much extra meat, cheese, it's doubled everything which is so unnecessary I did not order it like this and the fact the deli department just smashed it together irritates me because there also expensive 12$ for a sandwich I have to eat with a fork disappointed.

Yelp
Iykyk always a pleasure to step into a Zupan's. "My" store's on W Burnside, but went into this one after a dental appt. for a coffee and a nibble. Had a HH bagel, toasted w/butter -stop it. We know they're delish. This rave created over HEATHER (barista) and her magical customer service & generous Spirit. Y'all: I'm at that location like only 2-3 times/yr and she (they?) made me feel like a 10 year regular

Yelp
You would think I would learn. I have purchased the crab from in front of the deli case four times now and each time it's disappointing. Absolutely flavorless crab. What are you doing to it? Is it old or previously frozen or both? How can you screw that up? Also, when I'm purchasing a few hundred dollars of groceries, I will definitely want a bag. Juggling groceries isn't my idea of fun. It's okay to double bag as well. The sommelier here is knowledgeable.

Yelp
Literally the whitest, blandest, most expensive watermelon I've ever been coerced to buy. The produce salesman gave me a sample of several fruits, and after insisting the watermelon would be a great option, picked one for me (although I had my doubts with his selection). This is what I get for letting someone talk me into produce at Zupans. Never again.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I had a bad experience at this market that made me feel uncomfortable. It might be racially linked as I'm a brown latina. I'm new to the area and usually go to the Farmers Market, but I just discovered this place. So, I decided to go grocery shopping at this location to check it out. During my visit I was looking at a salad spinner in the produce area and then an employee approached me to ask if I was looking for the price. I found it strange because the price was clearly displayed. And then another employee made sure to mention to me that the prices at the market are high. Going into this market, I was aware the prices were higher from reading Yelp reviews. But I was hoping to find some gourmet food; as I don't mind paying more for good quality food. They have a good cheese selection. But I wasn't impressed with their meat. It's probably the worst I've had so far in Portland. Moving forward I'll probably avoid this market. Thankfully I discovered a new market called, World Foods. I had a better experience here. I was able to look at all of their tea selection without being harassed. And they have good quality food for better prices.

Yelp
I'll upvote a star, the beer selection has gotten a little better and the music has been turned down a bit - strange but good. It's still ridiculously expensive but whatever I guess. 3 stars is fair.

Yelp
PRICE GOUGERS. Seriously. They change the prices on items daily. I had been buying driscoll's "sweetest batch" blueberries, and I saw them at Zupan's for $12.99. I was suspicious, because I could have sworn they were $9.99 the day before. Well, I went to New Seasons in Sellwood THE SAME DAY and they were $6.49. Another instance: I got some Isigny Ste Mere butter at Zupan's, and paid $12.50 for it. I was like, wow, this must be so expensive because it's from France. WRONG. I saw it 1 week later at new seasons for $7. White hot rage. I gave a star because the workers there--the cashiers, the meat dept dudes--all wonderful people. The food they carry is high quality. But you cannot trust this store to not relentlessly gouge you and hope you don't notice. What a terrible business model. They have lost my trust and I will never shop there again unless it's for an onion or something. I was getting in my car once, and saw two older, upper-class white ladies getting into a BMW, and one of them pulled out a receipt and screamed , "Oh my GOD. That was $143!" The other lady screamed, "WHAT?!?! WHY?!?!?" And they were both staring at the receipt, screaming.

Kiki M.

Yelp
The staff is the worst. Especially the ladies at check out. You overspend and they toss your groceries in the bag and even drop an item without a care. This place needs help.

Yelp
PROFILING AND HARASSMENT OF BLACK SHOPPERS NEEDs TO STOP! As someone who owns a home close to Zupans I frequent the store for little things and the customer experience from my vantage point is can be interactive but after this experience today it's shameful and I need to speak out as this treatment needs to end and accountability start somewhere. On March 11th , after a walk along the bike trail I went shopping for a few items at Zupans, it was busy day as some event was happening where food was being sampled. As I shopped for items for about 20mins, I noticed a gentleman following me and waiting for me in the aisle I was shopping. He pretended to zone the aisle that was visibly neat already. He stayed in the aisle and watched me until another customer came in the aisle and excused herself as she needed him to move so she could make room for her cart. After this interaction he left the aisle. After this incident, I was approached by a couple different employees in store branded attire asking if I was finding everything ok. I had already been shopping in the store for 20 mins without any interaction from any employee until the plain clothes employee interaction, after that i was approached several times. Extremely confused and disappointed in this experienced, I deliberately went into multiple areas in the store to confirm my suspicion of being followed. I went to produce and not soon after I arrived the same plain clothes employee was right there behind me.. then proceeded to dairy and again same plain clothes employee right behind me. I proceed to checkout and shared this extremely uncomfortable experience and disappointing harassment behavior with sales clerk. He apologized and didn't deny the plain clothes employee. I requested the manager after paying for groceries. Here's the infuriating part.., I shared my experience with manager on duty Jeremy Alcatraz and first he denied having a secret shopper or employee in plain clothes following people around for theft. He asked did he have Zupan attire on and I restated he was in plain clothes. Then as I look up, right behind the cashier station, the plain clothes employee is right there. Manager then states he's my PAC which has to do with prevention efforts . The manager stated I can see how what you described could be an uncomfortable experience. This type of harassment and lack of accountability is exhausting and frustrating when all a person wants to do is quietly shop after a nice walk in their neighborhood and not be followed because of the color of their skin. DO BETTER ZUPANS.

Yelp
I love the product at this grocery store. I have visited here many times before. What I don't love is the majority of the staff. I have not had any of the different departments treat me well except the bakery department. I ordered a sandwich one time and the woman who helped me acted like I was inconveniencing her. Today solidified how I feel about the workers. My mom left her phone in the phone holder in the shopping cart. When we called to ask if they had found a phone we told them right where she left it. A worker couldn't take 5 seconds to go look, instead they just told us nobody had turned in a phone. When my mom was able to get there about 20 minutes later the phone was right where she told them it was... really? In a store where you paint yourselves as a family owned business who is fresh and in the community you could go out and grab the phone so it is safe until she can get there. In 20 minutes not one person had an extra 5 seconds to go grab the phone? This is so ridiculous. Customer service gets a one star and less if it was possible. A+ for the bakery department though, they seem to be the only ones that care about customer satisfaction.

Yelp
Horrible... got kicked out. Bad service... do not go there.

Yelp
Not only is this place the only grocery store in the area so their business is pretty much built in but they have the rudest staff of unhappy people that I have ever seen. I'm now to the point that I would rather drive an extra couple miles just not to deal with the attitudes. In all the years I have been coming here I have watched and noticed that the attitude is all the way up to management. So how does bad attitude management teach and train customer service??? They can't!!! This place is top dollar but they have a great deli at this store but I will not put up with the attitudes and negativity at this store and neither will others I know. In a day and age where grocery delivery is becoming so popular you would think that they would bend over backwards to be that "friendly" small family grocery store. But apparently they missed the memo! Being in management myself I would clean house here. It's out of control! People can't say hi back, , when you ask a question they don't want to answer and act like you inconvenienced them etc. And have you ever heard of having a smile on your face? Too bad!!

Yelp
I have always liked a traditional Mom and Pop Italian market . My family immigrated from Sicily MANY years ago . The traditional food and family welcome is what I always get at the lake Oswego Market. Particularly from 1 specific cashier . Super cute , outgoing, petite and knows the market blond . No , we are not dating or BFF I walk in , I always get the same things . As well as a roll of quarters. NOBODY ELSE IN THIS AREA will cough one up . I grab some lunch meat because it is not slimy or spoiled in 2 days . Tasty and worth every penny. Some fruit , and cheese . Occasional meatballs and if it is a special occasion. And we can afford to , we get sausages. A gentleman named Mike used to run the deli . He was beyond kind and always welcoming. My son who was 10 at the time and always wanted to say hi to Mike ! It is the little things like that , they make a huge difference for me. Mike left opening his own restaurant. Since then , it is still nice and welcoming. Just not all the people . Only a few . #blondcashierwcherries #yourock

Yelp
Great selection of gourmet and local products with pricing to match. But the staff vibes are NOT it. Just ONE woman in the produce/cheese section told me to holler if I needed something, which I appreciated. Aside from her, I almost got hit by three separate stockers, rushing around corners with carts. The nail in the coffin was a checker who didn't acknowledge me at all as she rang me up; when I said, "hey, how ya doin'," she replied with, "I'm well, thanks." ?!? Sorry, is reciprocity quarantined in 2021? She then proceeded to slam my seltzer 6-packs down the conveyor belt. I told her I hoped her day improved (because it was clearly going pretty poorly) and she said, "yeah you too!" Like what?! My day was fine before I set foot in here and had to play Temple Run just to spend $150 on two peaches and some water. All in all, I didn't feel welcome or appreciated here and won't be back, despite being in the area weekly.

Trio L.

Yelp
Bought some deli salad, watermelon & Cantaloupe Chunks on Sunday 4/2. 3 days later the kale & lentil salad gone bad. Watermelon still good but the Cantaloupe Chunks got moist texture & smell bad even in the fridge. I've never had this problem ever with food at Zupan's. Guess I should go to other location. So disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
I found this Zupan's much less claustrophobic than the store on W. Burnside and easier to shop. It's an incredible upscale grocery chocked full of goodies one doesn't see anywhere else. Depending on what you look to buy it can be very expensive. I found their seafood selection which was gorgeous to be twice the price in some cases to what I pay for the same at a local fish monger. Some of the meat selection as well is so high priced I can't say if it's different or not. For $9.99 a pound for ground chuck I'll drive to Butcher Boys in Vancouver and pay considerable less. All in all it's a great store!

Yelp
Everything in here is better than most super markets. They are constantly looking to improve the quality and integrity fo want they serve and offer. I know I can always get the best cuts of meat, the best seafood, and fruits and vegetables. Everything just looks better here. They also seem to select what can be considered the better quality dry goods. Lots of imported and higher level quality items stock their shelves. There is no or very limited Zupans brand other than prepared food. Even their prepared food taste better than most grocery store offerings. Their wine selection is better than most stores. They have a limited selection but never a bad option. During the summer on Fridays they even have a burger bar outside. Their quality and service are very high. Guess why only 4 stars? Their prices are very high. Think the opposite of Costco. Very small portions ask for a very high price. The cost of all this oppulance is it cost more. Still if you can afford it or want to impress someone with quality ingredients for dinner. They have the goods to take you to the next level.

Yelp
Let's be frank, Zupan's is home to the $80 bag (not bags) of groceries. And that is just 1 meat and no wine. It is a high end grocery store so you know what your getting in for here. What it is best for: 1. Floral - fantastic 2. Butcher - get my turkey for Thanksgiving here 3. Produce - top end 4. Great cheeses 5. Pre-made hot meals and sandwiches That's not all either. Wine, patties, Knick-knacks and more. The down side. It's all at the highest end price. I mean like ridiculously high. They have some interesting staff, just seems to be always new folks and some are not very friendly (at all). Some are but some are very much not. On the regular too. Food can be a huge miss sometimes too. Tonight I grabbed a sandwich, bean and cheese burrito and a butter chicken burrito. The butter chicken was 100% rice. This thing was 11 inches long and smelled good when heated. As I ate I tasted and saw zero chicken. So after 4 bites I started digging with my fork. In the entire burrito- one 1/2 inch piece of thigh meat. This is the problem, I spent $27 on those 3 items and 2 small bags of chips. This should have meat as advertised. This item should not make it to your shelves if you charge that much for it. Big fan but will continue to only shop here for holidays.

Yelp
This my goto for food stuff back when I lived on virginia st. High quality food, friendly staff. Best part is, that's its right across the street from Willamette Park. I'd buy good healthy snack, walked to the ducks and 'em stuff I got from Freddie's while eating the Zupan goodies...

Yelp
My first visit to this SW location! I'm a big Zupan's fan but I'm a little lost these days as I don't work in NW anymore and the SE Belmont location skipped off into the sunset. I sadly discovered this on a friend's birthday when I wanted to pop in and get a lemon cupcake or some such sweetness from their awesome bakery and found the building shuttered. So basically, I like this specific yogurt these days (Brown Cow Maple) and not a lot of places carry Brown Cow at all, or the maple flavor. So I've been trying to think about where could be convenient between work and home, or the boyfriend's house and mine. This place was a 3mile whim I took. Compare and Contrast: This Zupan's doesn't have an Ellenos greek yogurt bar But I think it has a larger meat counter than Belmont did It has less floral space than NW, but they offer full meals in the breezeway! As I wandered through the store, I picked up a few random things that weren't obscene in price. -Honey samples, an oz, I believe: 4/$5 -My beloved yogurt, on sale for $0.95 -Chocolate covered cranberries $3 -Baked chicken and roasted rosemary potatoes: 2 legs and a half lb of potatoes for $5 -A jalapeno salted bagel from Bowery bagels (uh) $3.10 seems steep for a bagel but I never see salted or jalapeno salted bagels anywhere I spent about $20 and got some quality items. The line was short. The staff were all friendly. The parking lot is a strange layout, the entrances don't seem intuitive to me. There's also a CenturyLink in the same parking lot if you need to pay a bill (I did) but it's open business hours (I was there around 630-7 and they were closed). I came from the gym and even though my hair was gross, no one gave me any weird looks. It was an inclusive, welcoming environment. Not snooty. I can def see myself working this into my routine, paying my CenturyLink bill and grabbing a few upscale items. I'm curious if they open the breezeway or have outdoor seating other times than the meals. Might be a nice place to enjoy an Aranciata!

Yelp
This review is for the sandwich counter at the Zupan's Market on the SW Waterfront. The sandwich counter is clean and very clear about the options it offers in how you can build your sandwich. They have a large variety of breads, meats, cheeses, veggies and spreads. I got a veggie and cheese sandwich with their pesto mayo. The pesto mayo was the star of the sandwich made everything so good. Their sourdough bread is also very tasty and fresh. The sandwiches are 5.99 for a half and 9.99 for a whole. We eat got wholes and they were very big! The staff all wore the proper ppe and the store encouraged social distancing and required masks on their patrons.

Yelp
Was definitely put off recently when I was asked three different times if I needed help within minutes of each other. Once was enough. Twice was annoying and the third time was suspect. We were only shopping the aisles off to the right and the middle gift section by the bakery. I am worried that it was because we were wearing masks! I felt that this was really not necessary. A greeting upon entry would have been enough but instead the employees by the door decided to say nothing. Please work on your customer service.

Yelp
Staff are generally very friendly. The flowers (expensive but gorgeous) , deli (breakfast hot bar is awesome - - especially the seasonal savory bread pudding!!, and Omg make your own sandwiches - - drool), soup (half soup, half sammie combo is generous for the price) , drip coffee (bring your own cup for a discount), poke bar (avocado and Wasabi run out quickly though), AND cold beverage selections (water kefir, booch, cold brew, fancy soda.. Oh my!) are all fantastic. Yes it's pricey but you have options and it's a treat in an otherwise desolate lunch area.

Yelp
Really nice market, some delicious local produce including stellar raspberries. Cheese selection is decent. What is awesome there is the man who helped me select some less common cheeses that would also be kid friendly; and that they have a tasting basket so you can take home a couple of ounces of many cheeses. Perfect for a picnic. Solid olive and salad bars. Also, an enjoyable shopping experience--ambiance and service were pleasant. Yay!

Yelp
I know what you're thinking. It's a grocery store and why would you Yelp it? Well, for one reason it feels comfy. It's kinda farmers market feel. Store around the corner type place. Nice people working and shopping. It's part of the neighborhood. The funny part is I live 10 miles away. What first drew me into Zupan was needed snacks for kayaking. They have nice food, fresh fruits and vegetables. Also a salad and olive bar like most of these style of stores. But they also have a Pokey Bar. Ok, I'm a sushi but. I eat sushi three or so times a week. I won't eat sushi from a grocery store. But pokey, for some reason , is different. They have tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, shrimp and other things to go along with the pokey. I create a bowl and take it to go. Gearing up at the paddle splashin I keep it within reach. I paddle out to a nice quite spot and enjoy.

Yelp
Expensive but they have very nice quality foods and lots of items you can't find any where else.

Yelp
Update: Flower department has improved its service and selection and grocery and meat/seafood are superior, I still ding for deli, grab n go and produce for quality and shelf life. Sadly I will not return as the premium you pay to shop here no longer is supported by superior products or superior service. The deli items are mostly outsourced and texture and flavor challenged. When asked to make an arrangement with the flowers I selected while I shopped I was given a brown paper wrapped bundle of my flowers still in plastic and not arranged. Thanks for nothing.

Yelp
Very Overpriced and produce doesn't last I live in the neighborhood and will only shop here as a last resort. Who wants to pay $35/ lb for a non organic steak? Or 60% more for produce that only last a day or two? New Seasons is much better. Their selection doesn't justify their prices or attitude.

Yelp
I just want to say thank you grocery workers everywhere and here at Zupans. I read a few of these Yelp reviews of what people were saying. Shame on all of the bad reviews. Complaining about staffing. Also, to complain about too pricey well there is a store for you. So sorry for them for not understanding what is happening in the world and their neighborhoods. Their spoiled bitter, angry attitudes is embarrassing. This is the place to go if you want fine foods but also yummy essentials. (Produce, wine, beer, sweets, plants etc...

Yelp
Zupan's is the sh@$. Sometimes I bring my computer and work from their outdoor seating area, there are a number of heaters so no bad weather can deter me. If you like orange juice, you MUST try their fresh squeezed, I call it "the nectar of the gods". Everyone is so friendly and though it's a little spendy, I love the selection of traditional groceries and household decor. The floral department is knowledgable and convenient for gifts on the go.

Yelp
I LOVE this place ... on pay day that is. Their quality of product is super high and the selection is on point when you're looking for that one rare ingredient. This market is walkable from me so I find myself there often. I love the selection of goods ... they also strategically place these amazingly large cinnamon rolls right next to the check out line, so I feel like they're speaking my language. I went down the other day looking for black rice and managed to find some. Their ready made food looks super good too.

Yelp
Great store! Attractive store stocked with every kind of high quality product you could want. Beautiful flowers and floral arrangements. Gorgeous produce. Artisanal cheeses, meats, crackers and everything to put together a knock out charcuterie plate. Awesome prepared food from mac and cheese to tamales to quiche. A huge selection of store made soups and tons of good bread and sweets from Papa Haydn and others. Wine, sodas, dishes, cards, gifts, candles. This is recreational shopping. Love this place!

Yelp
Love the store can't stand the staff! 80% of them are miserable all the time. No smiles, no customer service. Not sure if the company is paying them well but something has to change. It puts me in the worst mood every time I leave. It's getting harder and harder to shop there.

Yelp
Money grabbing establishment. Everything is overpriced! Literally everything is twice to 3x more than other stores. The only reason I went was because I know they'll make a gluten-free deli sandwich. But adding a few snacks for my kids and it cost $100! Not going back anytime soon.

Yelp
How could Zupan's not be 5 stars?? I miss it living on the west side so when I went to Oregon City and took a wrong turn coming home (hush now, this happens to me and it is often fortuitous)it occurred to me that I could buy dinner in here when I was sitting on the Sellwood Bridge. I really didnt need to shop. I WANTED to. (uh oh. ) I gave myself some stern instructions on the way in ( no wine Janet no beer Janet no brie Janet). ok. im ready. Sweet. I smelled all the pretty flowers and explored the produce. Grabbed avocadoes and limeade ( both on sale). At the deli I splurged on some roast chicken pieces and grilled asparagus. Then I grabbed some whole wheat sourdough, some sweet and sour pickles, some mint dark chocolate maltballs for princess, a couple bags of kettle chips ( on sale but have you noticed the ounces going down as the prices go up?? )some mini cookies for her lunches from the bakery, and Im done. not too bad. well under $60. Dinner was sandwiches made from that stuff...hold the maltballs. People were friendly. Everyone was helpful. Parking was easy. enough. I just like the pace and tude in here. NO wonder I cant stand Winco. Im spoiled. Confession. I ate the asparagus in the car. Kiddo wont touch it and I was hungry. What?!

Yelp
the best part about this place is the cheese lady Chelsea. Very friendly and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Stopped in here on my way back to Portland from LO looking for some cool vegan treats. New Seasons was too out of the way and this was so convenient BUT - wish I had gone to New Seasons. Although their product section was really nice - forget about trying to find a variety of vegan foods in their refigrator section. ANd their frozen section breads were less that worth the price I think they have more at Safeway. I'll head a little further next time to New Seasons - worth the trip.

Yelp
Really helpful Deli Manager. Definitely went out of his way to make sure I left a happy customer. Thankful the deli staff was willing to ask him for what I was requesting. I often shop for Clients & have to ask for specific things & don't have the luxury of swapping out for whatever I want.

Yelp
Charges literally double the price whole foods charges for their goat brie. I also watched the flourist chop up several perfectly good orchids no one would buy, how wasteful, cant you give them out for free rather than chopping them up in the rubbish. Don't think i will be visiting this wasteful very overpriced market again

Yelp
This grocery store is great if either money grows on trees for you or if you love deli sandwiches. Don't need to pay attention to prices? Nice options here. Love sandwiches? Surprisingly inexpensive and delicious!

Yelp
Just visited tonight for the first time, found this store to be a delight! Artfully decorated with so many useful kitchen tools and complimentary items in fruit/vegetable area! Seasonal produce as well as newer items. Staff very friendly and helpful on several occasions during my visit! I would come here weekly, if I lived in Portland! Bummer heading south today! :-(

Yelp
The reason I gave only 2 stars: I HATE that the aisles are not labelled. I always end up asking for help finding something. The Deli/Bakery clerks (2 Females I always encounter) are always pretty useless. I stand around waiting on someone while they finish what they are doing until they help me. Should be the other way around. And in general, prices are too high. I usually just stop here, if I forget something or need to just pick up a few things. I will say, The butcher is always very helpful, and I love that they offer samples. I just don't get the greatest of service here like I would at New Seasons, or Trader Joes.

Yelp
If you go to any specialty market thinking you are going to do a big shopping trip on a budget you are seriously idiotic... that being said, I enjoy the selection at Zupan's and I can always get a few items on my list. The quality of the selection is not endless, but what specialty market is?! The employees are beyond friendly, and I really appreciate that they have made an effort to get to know me being that I'm a local who comes in often for a few odds and ends. The market has great local tastings - they had Alameda Brewing Company a few weeks ago. Taster please!
