Zytoun was recommended if I was seeking some authentic Mediterranean food, and my jaw was left on their dining flaw from how amazing it was.
My mum and I ordered:
- Mixed pickles
- Mix Grill
- Fattoush
- Basmati rice
- Half cheese/beef Borak
And to finish:
- 1 mint tea
- 1 Turkish coffee
Now, I mean no exaggeration when I say this food was phenomenal! The pickles were crispy and well flavoured, they borak was juicy and exploding with flavour, the fattoush was so fresh and delicious, the basmati rice was cooked perfectly, and the mixed grill... FABULOUS! The lamb chops were charcoled beautifully, the lamb tika kebab was tender and juicy, the lamb koufta was to die for, the chicken tika kebab was seasoned lovely, and the chicken tawouk was spiced to perfection.
It was my first time trying Turkish coffee and while I was scared at how it could taste, I was genuinely delighted with the flavour it presented. It had only a slight bitterness and was actually a slightly sweet, Turkish spiced espresso, and the little Turkish sweet they provide along side it goes down with the coffee like heaven. The mint tea was remarked as being lovely too, coming out with a choice of sweeteners like honey, sugar, etc. Such a lovely end to a gorgeous meal that really hit a special place for us both.
The design of the restaurant was really warm and cosy and the servers were such nice ladies. They consistently offered help with choices and when we were unsure, they explained perfectly each of the menu items and their similarities (e.g. Borak being like Sambousek).
It was such a lovely meal and truly a fine dining experience, I would definitely rate them higher than a 5 if possible. 100% would recommend!
