I didn’t make reservations but tried my luck at 6.30pm, and they graciously accepted me (single diner). I didn’t even know what to expect, but it was a kaiseki meal, well executed with quality and fresh ingredients. There were touches of Kyoto in it: yuba tofu, goma tofu, and other Japanese delicacies like shirako, otoro. Lots of fish featured in dinner. It’s a small restaurant, but lovely service. It’s not molecular gastronomy, neither does the restaurant offer anything “new” or cutting edge, but it was nonetheless, delicious, beautifully presented, well executed, and a decent representation or introduction to Japanese kaiseki cuisine. After a filling dinner, it was satisfying to walk around the very atmospheric Gion, now deserted of the throngs of tourists. ¥12,000. What a steal.
