We had a bit of high hopes coming into this place which was rated with a 2 star in the Michelin guide. I give it a -2 star. Here’s why: My Japanese wife asked about their menu after reviewing their 10 items with no prices but only got semi-rude responses. Mind you they are in their 80s.
When she asked what is recommended, the old lady responded with everything is recommended. When asked how many pieces were in the tempura order, they responded with you get all the tempura. We ordered a sashimi set and asked how many pieces does it come with but she wouldn’t give us a definite answer. At this point, before ordering anything else, we were already turned off. We changed it to a smaller sashimi order since we didn’t know how big the tempura order would be. Not very helpful as you would expect.. The food was mediocre at best.
The seating is only at the counter, which seats about 9-10 people. Old restaurant. Nothing renovated. Pretty uncomfortable and awkward sitting there. They were even talking about us not knowing how to order. Foreigners or even local Japanese would not know how to order they said.
After dropping 19,500¥ for an order of Aji sashimi (typically 1,000¥) and a tempura order for each of us (since it was labelled as a tempura restaurant), 2 Asahi beer and 2 small sake, I was quite disappointed.
The tempura order came with 5-6 pieces only. We were going to order more after seeing how large the tempura order was but 2 hours had passed since our 6pm reservation. The other 6 people at the counter must have started at 5pm. Lucky I wasn’t too hungry being jet legged from Canada.
If you must try this restaurant, order the course sets. They come in 8000, 10000, and 12000 yen sets. Don’t second guess that like we made the mistake of. Hope this review helps!
