A short bus ride from Sendai Station (by another hotel's bus) brings you to the Saryo Soen. First impression of the grounds is amazing, welcoming staff are gracious and professional. First impression of the facility was good, large, airy and clean. The hallway carpets, however, were stained or sun-faded and took away from the overall sense of a first rate ryokan. Our room was clean with tea maker, mini-fridge and interesting wood Japanese soaking tub--and of course the tatami mats.||||Our delicious food was served in our room and our assigned server was professional and very sweet. She spoke next to no English (and we speak little Japanese), but she would bring little notes to ask us questions and clearly went out of her way for us and did an excellent job!||||The onsen facility is outstanding! The outside hot spring is the best, clean comfortable and lined with lovely trees, rocks and shrubs.||||A Japanese friend booked out 3-night stay for us as their website was in Japanese. This ryokan is not inexpensive, but if you want to experience a traditional ryokan, go for it! Walking around the area was easy and interesting with a very helpful tourist information center a 10-minute walk away staffed by English-speakers.
