American tourist here. Our meal at sushi Miura was one of the top 5 meals of my life, not only for the food, but for the incredible hospitality we experienced while we were here.
Upon entering we informed the chef we did not speak Japanese and were given excellent assistance from his assistant who was friendly, knowledgeable, and made for some wonderful conversation throughout the meal.
We ordered sake and we’re allowed to pick from an array of pretty cups (small gesture, but fun). The sake was so much cheaper than we expected it to be considering the quality, and the chef provided excellent recommendations.
Despite the language barrier the chef provided us with such warmth and kindness that only added to the level of the cooking, which was insane.
As someone who is not knowledgeable about sushi or even particularly big on fish, I loved nearly every bite of the meal. The bonito in egg in particular, as well as the tuna, uni and mackerel were wonderful. The chef knows how to use citrus to make every fishy bite balanced.
Overall, the experience was once in a lifetime. I would have paid double.
