We paid 91,000₩ for two people at Mongtan Jeju. The beef ribs were lovely, although they don’t remove all the meat from the bones — we had to ask to cook the rest ourselves. One waiter spoke very good English and was really helpful, which we appreciated. The woman at the front desk, however, was a little rude. The restaurant was also a bit hard to find, but the food made up for it. The truffle-infused steamed egg was outstanding — I’d definitely order it again. All the side dishes were delicious, and the cold noodles with pork on the side were a great addition. Overall, the meal was cheap, tasty, and worth trying if you’re in Jeju.

An excellent experience. On the main meat items there are 4 meat items. The beef rib, pork belly, beef tongue, and beef skirt. My recommendation is to just skip the pork belly and beef tongue. Focus on the beef rib and skirt. Get one portion each for the beef rib, and share a skirt. For the side dishes; get the fried rice, and you can skip the cold noodles. Restaurant requires you to book in advance, and there are fixed daily slots. So expect to eat at odd timings as lunch and dinner timings are difficult to get.

I visited Mongtan (몽탄) in Jeju after watching the YouTube video by Jackson and Shawn Lew — their reactions definitely piqued my interest. The ribs were indeed delicious: tender, smoky, and rich with flavor. But what really stood out was the impeccable design of the condiments and side dishes. Each one felt intentionally crafted to complement the meat, enhancing the overall experience with balance and depth. The ambiance is modern and understated, and the staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Service was smooth, and the meal flowed at a relaxed, enjoyable pace. That said, while I appreciated the quality and presentation, the experience didn’t quite hit the “wow” level for me. Maybe it was the high expectations set by the video, but it felt more like a polished and reliable meal than a transformative one. Still, Mongtan is a solid choice for Korean barbecue lovers in Jeju, especially if you value thoughtful flavor pairings and premium ingredients. It’s not the kind of place that blows your mind, but it’s certainly one that satisfies — and if you’re a fan of Jackson and Shawn, it’s fun to retrace their steps.

Not the best of this cut of meat that I’ve had, slightly chewy but was marinated well enough that we did order more after for a second round. Compliments and sides are good. Service very attentive. Would I come back? Yes. Has it made it on my “Must re-visit” list? No.

The best Korean barbecue ever. It was so good that we made sure to go back again during our short trip in Jeju. We tried going to the main branch in yongsan our last trip to korea but the wait was way too long. Definitely worth coming if you are travelling in Jeju. The staff cook the meat for you and explain/suggest how you should eat with the side dishes provided.
