Although Glasgow is easily Scotland's largest city and is packed with sights and attractions, it is far from being indigestible. Most of the key draws are located in the centre of town and those that aren't are an easy bus or subway ride away. From retail therapy to appreciation of Scotland's other national drink, a crash course on Glasgow's quintessential elements is a straightforward and enjoyable undertaking. "Shop Therapy on Glasgow’s Style Mile If shopping’s your bag, make a bee-line for Glasgow’s “Style Mile,” where the concentration of shops here (some 200) makes it the UK’s largest retail center outside London . The choices include everything from massive department-store emporiums like Debenham’s and House of Fraser (which has been in Glasgow for over 160 years), to boutique kiltmaker’s shops to swanky bath-and-beauty outlets like Space NK. If you’re homesick for American brands, you’ll find plenty of those here, too—including Gap, Nike, and Urban Outfitters. "Glasgow's Literary Heart Given the city's storied literary heritage it is only fitting that its main central square is scattered with telling reference points. The square is populated with statues of greats including Robert Burns, Thomas Campbell and Sir Walter Scott and engraved into the paving stones outside the Concert Hall and Scottish Music Centre is poetry by another local hero, Edwin Morgan."

"Making Merry on Glasgow’s Ashton Lane This charming cobblestoned back street, lined with restaurants and bars, is the place for lively nightlife in Glasgow’s West End. When darkness falls, festive strings of lights twinkle overhead, and the sounds of live music and laughter drift from pubs and cafes—some of which have been here for decades. The legendary Ubiquitous Chip has served up the finest Scottish produce in a magical courtyard dining room for over 40 years. There’s also the historic Grosvenor Cinema, which has screened films on the lane since 1921—and just underwent a multi-million-pound renovation. When was the last time you visited a movie theater with quirky double sofas for seats, and ordered a beer or glass of wine? "People’s Palace & Winter Gardens, Glasgow Green Born in the 15th century and brimming with history, Glasgow Green is the oldest park in Glasgow. Set on the North Bank of the River Clyde, the park’s natural centerpiece is the People’s Palace & Winter Gardens, a museum and glasshouse which illuminates Glasgow’s rich cultural history. The museum is dedicated to the history of the city and her people and has a range of great exhibits including a display that pays homage to the favorite Glaswegian pastime, going to ‘the dancing’! "The Ultimate Drink: Irn-Bru Don’t head to Scotland without having yourself an Irn-Bru. This tipple is the be-all end-all of soda pop. Ask a local what they prefer — Irn-Bru or a classic Coke — and chances are the answer will be in the favour of the Bru every time. People like to note that it's the only place in the world where Coke isn’t the top selling soda, though this is debatable. However, there is a full carnival bearing its name which I, admittedly, almost went to. Violent orange in colour, you know there’s no possible way this stuff could be good for you. Taste-wise, it sits somewhere between a ginger ale and some pink Crush, and while not necessarily likeable, it’s slightly addicting. Everyone swears it’s the ultimate hangover cure and there’s no doubt that the Scots know what they’re talking about when it comes to partying."

"Step back in time for a great date night at the Grosvenor Cinema. This gorgeous old school cinema, situated on the cobble paved Ashton Lane, boasts comfy and spacious leather seats and only shows two movies at any one time. This Glasgow West End classic dates back to 1921. Sponsored by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau"
