"Can you tell us a little about this place? Formerly the Mondrian, this east Soho/borderline Nolita hotel was re-launched in 2015 as the NOMO—a combination of the words “nostalgic” and “modern.” That aesthetic mix is best reflected in the common areas, beginning with the Crosby Street-side entrance, in which a covered walkway topped with greenery and fairy lights is framed by a romantic garden lounge on one side, and a graffiti-adorned brick wall on the other. Inside, the eclectic feel continues in spaces lined with both vintage and contemporary art, furnishings, and materials. What are the other guests like? Creative-industry business travelers mingle with foreign and domestic tourists who aren’t NYC newbies—and value a base in a lively location. How fluid was check in and check out? Check in and check out lines can be long at certain times, but the staff tries to keep things moving. Tell us all about the digs. Through the 26-floor hotel was renovated following the transition from Mondrian, one thing that couldn’t be changed was the size of the 263 rooms—so you’ll find options that range from tight entry-level layouts (with bathrooms so small, the sinks are out in the main sleeping area) to more spacious suites (many with balconies), and one of the most photogenic penthouses in the city, with nearly 360-degree vistas. In all categories, 10-foot-high ceilings and tall windows framing spectacular views in all directions help keep things bright and airy, while touches like HDTVs with Google Chromecast, Frette linen-topped beds, and showers stocked with Molton Brown products keep things comfortable. Wi-Fi is included. Were there in-room amenities or little touches that you'd rave about, or things you found bothersome? The mandatory $40 “amenity fee” for each room seems a bit nickel-and-dime-y, but does give guests access to the gym and things like Chromecast streaming, complimentary bottled water, and Wi-Fi.
