Moon Man Review - Lower East Side - New York - The Infatuation

"If you like glutinous and sticky textures, pick up some sweets at Moon Man. The two things to order are the green and vanilla pandan cake and the spongy cassava cake that tastes great with pandan kaya jam or palm sugar jam slathered on top. They also sell just the jams, which would taste delicious on toast or pancakes. NYC Guide The Best Restaurants At Essex Market" - Carlo Mantuano

Was so excited about them opening a permanent location inside Chelsea market but sadly the treats didn’t hit. I’m always on the search for a good pandan dessert to relive my childhood in Singapore but most of them just have the green color with no real flavor. I’m not sure if they use extract or leaves here but the pandan tiramisu barely tasted like it at all, and even more frustrating was that it contained 80% cream and almost no sponge/lady fingers at all. I ordered tiramisu not whipped cream. Also tried the cassava cake duo which had both Kaya (pandan) and ube jam drizzled on top. The cake itself had a good texture, albeit a bit greasy (ate it a couple hours later and saw it had soaked thru the bottom of the wax paper. But again the kaya and ube didn’t taste like much of anything at all. At these astronomical prices I can’t recommend it.

I’ve been a huge fan of Moon Man from Queens Night Market, where I always get their amazing Kaya Jam Coconut Pancakes. So I was super excited when they opened a spot at Chelsea Market! I tried their Pandan Tiramisu, and it was such a creative twist on the classic dessert. The tiramisu was rich and creamy, but the pandan and kaya added a perfect balance of sweetness and fragrance. Every bite was flavorful and well-executed. Definitely a must-try for anyone who loves Southeast Asian flavors! Can’t wait to come back and try more from their menu. Highly recommend!

Being gluten free can be a blessing (missed calories) and a curse (missed deliciousness). My daughter and I stopped into Chelsea Market and passed the Moon Man kiosk. I’m used to not getting things at dessert places, but as I looked over the glorious menu, I noticed the Cassava cake. I bake bread with cassava flour, and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever had - and our whole family loves it. So, I took the plunge. Unbelievable. I buy very few dessert items because I love to bake and create, but this was so unique that I will definitely have to treat myself now and again. Ps. She said the tiramisu was also great, for the majority of you who can consume gluten!

We found this spot in passing and quickly were drawn in by the cuteness of the snacks they offered. We got the combo so we could try one of each and were not disappointed. So soft and moderately sweet.

best Kaya jam ever! I got a tub of ube Kaya to use on my toast in the morning and it’s delicious. Would highly recommend if you’re a fan of coconut. I’ve been a huge fan since they were at queens night market

I loooove moon man’s Kaya jam, so I’m so happy to be able to try more of their desserts here! The pandan tiramisu was so good, I can’t stop thinking about it. Pick up a jar of the Kaya jam while you’re here!

Really delicious Indonesian desserts such as coconut pancakes cooked in front of you (with a variety of toppings) and cassava cake with pandan custard (my favorite). Occasionally there are specials like the cassava jelly (special for this weekend) which was EXCELLENT.

Yelp
The Asian flavor-inspired desserts at Moon Man are very pretty and inviting. Having discovered them years ago at the Queens Night Market years ago, my husband and I couldn't resist trying something new from them when we encountered their little cart at Chelsea Market. The pandan tiramisu we ordered was delicious. It was light and oh so creamy, with thin layers of sponge cake. I appreciated that the dessert tasted decadent without being too rich or too sweet. The pandan flavor was subtle but palpable. The layer of toasted shredded coconut added contrasting texture and added flavor. Overall the tiramisu was scrumptious, but overpriced. Paying $13 for this takeout item felt steep. It didn't have the complexity in taste or technique of an original tiramisu, so it seemed like we were paying more for novelty and of course location. Moon Man is really just a stand; there is no seating provided.

Yelp
The Moon Man station was nestled inside Chelsea market and was such a cute little stall that caught my eye as soon as I walked in! I had to try the kaya toasts, which were a perfect light dessert after having a heavier meal. These Southeastern desserts were so lovely, and weren't too overly sweet. They were made fresh so I waited maybe 6 minutes. The ube one was definately my favorite of the two, but pandan tasted very good as well! I think for the price it was 100% worth it, and next time if I have the chance I'd like to try a tiramisu.

Yelp
Delightfully creamy pandan and ube jams, tiramisu, flawless and delicious. I'm glad to see that Filipino flavors are catching on in the city!
