"How did it strike you on arrival?You could walk past Gigli d'Oro and barely notice it, so unobtrusive is its wooden doorway. Inside, however, it’s a different story: the owners have gutted the historic building, outfitting it with an inspired clash of traditional and modern: think exposed brickwork and wooden beams coupled with all-white walls and mirrors. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.In the Exclusive Gigli d'Oro Suite, there's a mashup of old and new: exposed wooden beams and polished parquet are contrasted with clean, white modern furnishings, including a glass-boxed bath. It feels new and crisp, without forgetting its heritage. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The bed is ultra-comfy, with firm, supportive pillows. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?The minibar, while not free, is well-stocked, and the wine cabinet has a selection of very good Italian labels. It’s welcoming and comfortable, and the staff treat you like friends—a rarity at some of the larger hotels in Rome."
