"The first thing you notice walking into the Front is the Guest Wall, a floor-to-ceiling blackboard on which previous visitors have scribbled messages in colored chalk. It’s a sign that while this place may have the same owners as the D’Angleterre, the city’s grand dame property, its attitude is much more cocky. The designers have had fun mixing traditional and trendy. Sitting in the lobby bar you can order an apple strudel martini and browse a selection of books that ranges from A.A. Milne to American Psycho while sitting on a hot pink sofa under a portrait of Queen Margrethe. Décor in the compact bedrooms is somber: a palette of granite and slate, black leather chairs and black desks that give them a retro-80s feel, but the adjoining bathrooms (stocked with wonderful Ren products) have rustic cobbled floors. The menu in the dining room even takes a classic like fish-and-chips and updates it by using tuna. Guests can enjoy welcome modern touches like free wireless internet connection and complimentary beer and water in the minibar, then grumble about the old-fashioned problem of poor soundproofing. It’s worth spending the extra kronor to get a harbor view or, at the very least, work out in the well-equipped gym where you can take in the view of the city’s Opera House. The location is ideal, on a quiet street that’s equally close to the hopping bars of Nyhavn and the elegant antiques stores of Bredgade."
