Gay night club · Ringsend

"First impression? Portraits of queer icons lining the walls identify The George, a bilevel pub and dance club, for what it is: a gay haven . You're never more than a few feet from a rainbow flag or a few loose sequins—debris from the night before. So who’s there? Regulars cramming into the bar to dance at all hours, plus tourists stopping into experience legendary bar, which dates back to 1985. How are the drinks? Leave the mixology at the door—this is a place to drink quickly poured Guinness beer, slid across the dark bar. If you're an obvious tourist, expect to wait a few minutes for your drink and be decisive with your order. Worth ordering something to eat, too? Eat before your visit, or head to one of the few late-night fast-food joints in the area—there's no grub here. Did the staff do you right? The bartenders easily match the demographic and seem generally pleased to be pouring drinks for patrons. Once the party gets started, they can become somewhat overwhelmed. Wrap it up: what are we coming here for? Everyone has their own reasons for drinking at The George, whether it's to absorb a bit of Irish LGBT history, drink alone in a safe space while traveling solo, dance, or take part in the legendary Sunday night drag bingo show." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner
