The Dreamcatcher – Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Set the scene for us. The Dreamcatcher is a white-washed, clay-tiled, bougainvillea-trimmed house that looks like a typical Ocean Park hacienda outside and a Zen sanctuary inside with Buddha statues, hammocks, fountains, lazy ceiling fans, and handmade dreamcatchers. Owner Sylvia De Marco carefully curated the space to maximally relaxing, connecting New Age elements with ages-old antique furniture and crystals. Any fun facts we should know before we get into it? Opened in 2012, Dreamcatcher holds the title of San Juan’s first and only (so far) vegetarian hotel. The rooms: What can we expect? All 11 of the rooms have tapestries, charming objets d’art, and dreamcatchers, but no two are alike. Most have private terraces; some have outdoor showers; some have hammocks. One room has a shared bath; two have private baths that are not ensuite. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi is complimentary. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? Want some hemp milk? Good. This is a vegetarian hotel. A three-course breakfast (not included in the room rate) has a variety of vegan and gluten-free options, plus natural, fresh-pressed juices. Each room is assigned shelf space in the communal kitchen so guests can prepare their own food as well (just make sure you're not using meat). There are also occasional pop up dinners—follow along on social media for info and dates. How's the service? Full of positive vibes. What kinds of people tend to stay here? Bohemian beach bums in yoga pants made from hemp. Where is it, and what's the surrounding area like? Set in a gated neighborhood in Ocean Park, Dreamcatcher is one block from the beach and a five-minute walk to bustling, artsy Loiza Street. Old San Juan is 10 minutes away by cab. Any other hotel features worth noting? The hotel offers daily yoga classes on the beach, meditation classes, and salsa nights. Water sports, eco-tours, and culinary tours can be arranged. So why would you recommend the Dreamcatcher, and for who? This hotel is for anyone seeking tranquility and convenience at once." - Kathleen Squires
