Northern style pho
@eatingalonediariez Northern pho vs Southern pho!!! Which do you like better? PERSONALLY I like Northern pho better because the broth is less overpowering with spices. I think most of the Vietnamese restaurants in NYC serve southern Vietnamese food, and here are some key ways to tell. Southern pho (Pho Saigon) is typically served with veggies like bean sprouts, basil, green onion, cilantro, etc. whereas Northern pho (Pho Hanoi) typically only has onions and green onions already incorporated in the broth. Also southern pho is typically paired with chilli sauce and hoisin sauce. Pho Saigon is also much more topping heavy with different meats (like meatballs! Northern does not have this. Northern pho most likely has minced beef instead). All of this is based on my own research and observations comparing spots that I’ve eaten so please correct me if I’m wrong!! Ok I was super excited about this spot because I haven’t had a bowl of pho like this with these flat noodles since I was in Paris! There is a significant Vietnamese population in France, specifically Paris and surrounding areas because post-Vietnam war a lot of refugees settled there. Sorry idk how this caption turned into a history lesson lol. THE FOOD WAS GREAT!!!!! I got the Tai Gau and Salt Mate coffee. Both 🤌. The staff here are so kind and it’s a small spot in the heart of Chinatown (right next Spongies!!!)
