"A reliable U Street NW watering hole, Solly’s Tavern will come out of hibernation in March and is being scaled back to its original 2006 footprint by owner John Solomon, preserving the first-floor bar, upstairs area, and the popular patio that hugs the corner of 11th and U Street NW. The bar had expanded in 2012 across the first floor into the old Madjet restaurant, which will now be filled by the incoming DNA Lounge; Solomon experimented with service during the pandemic by selling hot dogs and offering special menus via next-door wine garden Lulu’s after historically operating with a BYO-food policy, but he temporarily closed for winter because operating was too costly. Although the new club is registered at a different address, Solomon and his landlord were nonetheless named in a cease-and-desist letter from the original DNA Lounge." - Tierney Plumb
