"Opened after five years of planning, permitting, and fundraising, and following the founder’s two-year battle with a rare form of leukemia, this Black-owned teahouse was launched by Rise Jones with support from her husband, Louis Freeman. Located in Five Points, the business is intentionally focused on community impact—hiring from the local urban economic enterprise zone and encouraging neighbors to trade with each other—while offering an afro-centric, safe, congenial, and relaxed atmosphere. The venue combines a relaxed café and a bookstore centered on African American literature, and its menu ranges from loose-leaf and specialty teas to high-tea service and afternoon trays (including bottomless pots, tea sandwiches, scones, and pastries), plus coffee and chocolate drinks and all-day items like soups, salads, quiches, charcuterie, and toasties. Named in honor of the founder’s grandmother, whose home represented comfort, wisdom, and good food, the teahouse will host culturally attuned events and youth tea parties for “Young Ladies & Lords” to celebrate milestones. It is now open; check the website for current hours and menu updates." - Josie Sexton
