"Tucked into the lobby of Hotel Kabuki at 1625 Post Street in Japantown, the Bar at Hotel Kabuki is the latest in a crop of hotel bars upping the game — think Villon/Charmaine’s in the Proper and Gibson’s gem at the Hotel Bijou — and opens to the public on Thursday, January 25 as the centerpiece of the Joie de Vivre hotel’s $31 million renovation. The cocktails are from Shel Bourdon (Two Roads Hospitality National Director) and head bartender Stephanie Wheeler (of the Verb Hotel and Three Dots and a Dash); the menu includes charmers like the “Hello Amanojaku,” a cocktail for two served warm from a teapot and made with Suntory Toki whisky, Giffard vanilla, a chai tea blend, cashew milk, and macadamia almond orgeat. For non-alcoholic imbibing, a traditional Japanese tea ceremony will take place in the afternoon at a custom bar cart. Embedded at the bottom of the hotel, the bar pairs exposed Douglas fir beams and vintage factory pendant lights with a Japanese-style garden and fire pits (set to open in March) for a swanky night-out option, and note that the hotel’s famous in-room Japanese soaking tubs are a thing of the past. The physical menu of drinks and bar bites is also a pretty picture." - Caleb Pershan
