"I visited the new sidewalk cafe and bar, Paradis, set on the ground floor of the Sasan building; designed as an all-day cafe that shifts into a bar and lounge in the evenings, it opened with DJ-spun entertainment and provides a courtyard-centered spot to wind down from the day. Owner Jacquee Renna has enlisted pastry pro Aly Lyng to kick off mornings with rotating treats like olive oil tea cakes, everything bagel scones, and butterfly-shaped palmiers, while the coffee and tea counter serves seasonal lattes flavored with persimmon, cornmilk, and blueberry. Jon Hawkins (of George’s at the Cove) created a menu that features brunch items such as Spanish-style French toast with peanut crème anglaise and banana, breakfast sandwiches filled with bacon and chorizo baked eggs, and salads topped with basil fried chicken, skirt steak, or salmon. At sunset Hawkins’ offerings include the Gilda (an olive, white anchovy, and pickled pepper Basque pintxo), small bites like deviled eggs and goat cheese–stuffed dates, and larger tapas such as meatballs in Calabrian chili-honey sauce and chopped broccolini with miso and peanut glaze; bartender Eliza Woodman mixes mocktails and cocktails including the spritz-y Paradis Found (rum with gentian amaro, passion fruit, banana, coconut, and pandan)." - Candice Woo
