"Opened on October 17, this casual Austin restaurant from Los Angeles-based Taste Corp. occupies 4700 West Guadalupe Street, Suite A5 in the Triangle and serves both Sichuan and Shanghai cuisines; its name derives from the Romanized Chinese words “mian” (Sichuan wheat noodles) and “bao” (Shanghai steamed buns). The Sichuan side of the menu includes spicy beef noodles, zaijang noodles (wheat noodles with a fried soybean-based sauce), chile noodles, and spicy potato wedges, while the Shanghai side features xiao long bao (soup dumplings) and pan-fried buns. The restaurant is led by chef Tony Xu and business partner Sean Xie (who opened Chengdu Taste in Alhambra in 2013), Xu studied Shanghai regional cuisines with help from his in-laws, and the physical indoor space was designed using AI tools. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday." - Nadia Chaudhury
