"Hui Lau Shan is the latest addition to The Crescent shopping area in Crestview. This chain from Hong Kong specializes in all things mango (in dessert, drink, and pancake forms), but they also have a few non-mango-based bites. The chain has been around in some form since the ‘60s, but this is their first Austin location.  " - nicolai mccrary

Hui Lau Shan is an okay choice if you’re craving a mango dessert, but the experience can be inconsistent. When the fruit is fresh, their desserts are enjoyable, but they may not always be worth the price. It’s worth trying if you love mango, but not necessarily a must-visit.

Absolutely loved this place! The mango desserts had such a unique and delicious taste – not something you find everywhere. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly sweet. If you’re a mango lover or just looking for something different and yummy, this spot is a must-try! Highly recommend!

I was super excited to try this place after trying the one in Houston. They have lots of unique drinks and desserts that are a great variation from all the boba places around, but still with a similar vibe. Unfortunately, it may be due to coming when the mangos are out of season, but I thought for the mango and coconut juice with crystal jelly the mangos were barely a sweet and I thought there was too much sago in comparison to the other stuff, and it tasted weirdly unbalanced. Might try again when mangos are in season!

Jun 11, 2024 6 photos This is the place for mango lovers! We visited during the first week of the soft opening, and there was a long line from the register, through the restaurant, out the door, and around the corner. We were lucky enough to find a spot inside. We ordered: - Mango Romance Sampler: These were all delicious. - Mango Crisp: My favorite! Even though I wouldn't call myself a mango lover, these reminded me of mango cheesecake. Absolutely delicious. - Mango Swirl: A refreshing mango drink with what I think was a subtle hint of jasmine. Not overly mango-flavored, which I liked, but my mango-loving husband found it average. - Mango Chewy Ball: Good, but the tapioca pearls consistency was a bit harder than I would have liked. I would have preferred vanilla ice cream instead of mango as the mango flavor was too overpowering for me, but my mango-loving husband loved it with the mango ice cream. Overall, I recommend this place! There are options for mango lovers and those who like mangos but don't love them. We'll be back to try more items once they fully open!

If you like Mangos, then this is the place for you!! The Mango chewy ball is so good and delicious! The Mango sago is also delicious!! The Mango pancakes are also yummy, a piece of fresh Mango awaits you inside! You get what I'm saying here? If you like Mango, you can't go wrong with their refreshing Mango offerings! The Mango mochi is ok, really soft mochi but not really Mango flavored, but there is fresh Mango inside. The Mango swirl drink was probably my least liked item, it was really bad to me. The Houston location was made the Mango Swirl really good. I highly recommend coming here if you like Mango and want something refreshing and not sugary like boba or ice cream.

One of My daughter is huge fans Asian cuisine, and Hui Lau Shan in Austin did not disappoint! The mango desserts and drinks were a hit with us, and we appreciated the use of fresh fruit and strong tea flavors. However, the narrow working hours meant a long wait outside in a queue, which wasn't ideal for us. Despite this, the staff did their best to manage the crowds. We hope they consider extending their hours to reduce the wait times. Although not as sweet as expected, it was a quality drink. Austin's Asian food scene is undergoing a Renaissance, and Hui Lau Shan is a delightful addition! We'll be back for more mango goodness.

This is now my favorite dessert place in Austin. I’m from India and mangoes are huge there during the summers and I never was able to find any that were good enough in the US. This store exceeded my expectations by not only serving fresh and sweet mangoes but the dishes they offer are the perfect level of sweetness as an Asian would say, “not too sweet” indicating how perfect it is. My favorite items are the mango sago, mango chewy ball, mango mochi and mango pudding. I also tried the mango swirl but it was alright. This is our go to every Sunday after church.

Google
Mangomania My daughter is a fan of Asian treats so we had to give this a try. Unbeknownst to me, this place is devoted to mango, they had just about every iteration of mango imaginable. There was a large crowd of Asians buying a great deal of treats. My daughter was very happy with her mango desert. I had a watermelon milk tea with cream cheese, it wasn't as sweet as I'd hoped, but was happy with their use of actual fruit and the strong tea flavor. A good quality drink. I also noted the use of mango fruit in the desserts, I'll have to try one next time. I'm happy to say they have padded seating inside, something missing from similar establishments. You can sit down and enjoy your desert. There's some outdoor seating in the mixed use neighborhood with some tree coverage. I wish there was a nicer setting but admit it's better than others as there are at least one or two trees to sit under vs. looking out onto a busy street. Austin has been without many great choices in Asian food, but I can say a full blown Renaissance is underway.

Yelp
One of my favorite dessert spots! The mangoes are always fresh and sweet, while the other components of the desserts are light and not overly sweet. I love their rice balls as they're always soft. The containers for the coconut jelly are very cute and good quality, making for a nice tupperware container to use at home. Service is prompt as the line always moves quick!

Yelp
Cute little dessert spot! - Ample parking in the lot outside, in front of what looks like apartments - Super crowded when we went on a Saturday at 10 PM, but a great hang out spot for after dinner - You order at the cashier and receive a buzzer. When your order is ready, you bring the buzzer back to the counter - We got the mango trio and it was really good! The coconut ice cream was my favorite part - Lots of seating for small & large groups! Will be back to try more!

Yelp
Mango perfection since 1960! A Hong Kong chain that specializes in yummy treats such as fruity drinks, mochi, glutinous rice porridge, puddings and sweet soups with an array flavors like mango, durian, pomelo, osthmanthus, aloe, watermelon and more. Small shop, bright, clean and plenty of parking as it's located in a mixed apartment/retail setup. The mango mochi and pomelo, mango & coconut drink are my favorite items. Definitely check this out, you'll find yourself craving them often!

Jenny L.

Yelp
IMO, this place has the best mango coconut desserts in Austin! My usual go to drink orders are their mango sago or their passion fruit coconut jelly drink. I believe the only non-dairy drink is the passion fruit coconut jelly, for all those who are lactose intolerant. The service is usually quick and friendly. Whenever I go, there's plenty of seating available and this is a good spot for dessert after dinner at Bamboo House or if you're waiting to be seated!

Christian R.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for the first time on a Friday night around 7 PM. The place was poppin'! We had finished eating dinner and we were looking for some dessert in the area and stumbled upon Hui Lau Shan. The restaurant is limited on seating inside, but does have some seating spaces outside. Parking wasn't too much of an issue, it shares a lot with an apartment complex among other businesses that are next to it. We ordered the Mango Chewy Ball and split it. It was the perfect size for two. The dessert was super fresh and definitely made (along with the rest of the menu) for mango-lovers everywhere. I loved the different textures within--the mango, the chewiness of the white ball pieces, and the ice cream/gelato-like scoop in the middle, surrounded by mango juice/syrup. It was really good. Would definitely come back to try more!

Dolly N.

Yelp
This is a popular spot and a must for mango lovers! The mango tastes so fresh and sweet. It's a cute spot but can definitely get crowded at times (I've had times where it was struggle to find a spot to sit!) but the service is usually pretty efficient and it's a nice spot to get some dessert with friends that's sweet but not too sweet.

Thi D.

Yelp
Even out of season the mango desserts were really tasty. We tried a drink, mango pancake, durian pancake, and the hk bubble waffle ice cream. All were good, and we'd go back again. Pricey tho, $7-8 per dessert.

Geof T.

Yelp
Every time I visit the Bay Area I need to stop by Hui Lau Shan for their mango pomelo bowl. But now I can go so close to home in Austin! Their mango pomelo is one of the most refreshing desserts I've ever had. And somehow they manage to get sweet ripe mangos year round! It's definitely enough to share with like 3-4 people. I also really recommend the mango mochi they sell in a six pack.

Eddie K.

Yelp
I absolutely love Hui Lau Shan!! Came here multiple times and never disappointed. It's originated from Hong Kong and I have loved it since I had it for the first time! I always get their D5 since it offers a variety of ingredients such as aloe, mango, sago, and jelly inside the drink. Parking is a bit tricky in the area since it's shared with other businesses and apartment residents near by. But they do offer complimentary parking garage for 2 hours - the only concern is that the spaces are very tiny (for compact vehicles) Highly recommend it if you are in the area!

Yelp
Mango heaven for mango lovers! Located right next to Bamboo House on Airport and Lamar, had to come and try some delicious mango treats. So many options to choose from so I asked and got one of the favorites which was the mango sago. Had freshly cut mango with some kind of coconut cream that went so well together and was a nice cold treat on a warm Austin day. Servers gave their recommendations for interesting things to try as well so I'll definitely come back!

Catherine P.

Yelp
This mango spot is good! Everything on the menu incorporates mango in some way, and there are many options to choose from, including drinks, frozen treats, cheesecake, and fresh fruit. I ordered the bowl that had mango ice cream, mango puree, fresh mango, and rice balls. It was yummy and just as expected, except I did not prefer the rice balls. They don't have much of a taste, and the texture was a little tough to get over. Friends I went with got the mango sago, cheesecake bites, and mango pancake and loved all of their items. The service was quick as it is a walk up and order counter. Prices are fair for a dessert. The shop is located in a plaza by an apartment complex, so it can be tough to find parking out front, but there is a nearby garage with free parking for the first 2 hours. The ambiance of the restaurant is fine. It is a small shop, so there is minimal seating, but you can always take your order to go. The shop was a little warm when I went, so you might want to dress light. Overall, it is a cute little mango shop, and I would probably go again. 7/10!

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Love the theme of this place. The mango tasted delicious - so sweet and ripe! The staff were super attentive and very sweet. I got the mango chewy ball to split. A perfect balance of textures and overall not too sweet. Good creaminess to the ice cream.

Yelp
We let the new spot hype cool down before we went to try this spot that involved around mango! My husband and I came around 8pm and was very lucky because there wasn't a line to the door until after we ordered. They had an extensive many of mango desserts that it was so hard to pick. Thankfully the workers were really nice and patient and gave us their opinions on what is popular and what they personally like. We went with the mango & coconut juice with crystal jelly and their 6 piece mango mochi. I really liked how fresh the mango mochi was and how ripe the mango was which could definitely alter the taste if it wasn't. The drink itself was . I'm not a slushy fan but after you let the drink settle and mix all the jelly and topping with the mango slush it comes together really nicely and has a more refined smooth texture. I also appreciated how not overly sweet the drink was and you get more of the sweetness from the fruit itself. This spot is a must try and definitely a place to cool off in from the Texas heat!

Yelp
I been so excited to try this place! First in Houston, then Dallas but when they came to Austin, I finally got the chance to. I came maybe a week after their grand opening on a weekday morning and no wait. I got the mango sago. So good and refreshing! The staff recommended the pomelo mango one and it honestly tasted the same as the mango one but with hints of pomelo pulp bits here and there. The mango coconut jelly is really good but don't leave it in the fridge because the balls loses its soft chewy texture. The mango mochi is my favorite! So addicting! The mango pudding is good too but not the best/amazing. Overall, it's good. A little pricier than other dessert/boba places. I really enjoy the desserts though. It's perfect, not overly sweet. I wouldn't wait an hour + but I would recommend a try if you're nearby.

Yelp
I thought the Passion Fruit Mango Icy drink looked delicious, but it turned out to be not that great. I normally like passion fruit and mango drinks, but this one was extremely sour to the point where the flavour was unpleasant, and I generally tolerate sourness. I was told the drinks were naturally sweet, but it was not. The fruit pieces were sour too but not as bad as the drink. This was so disappointing as this drink was over $8. I will stick to the Mango & Coconut with Sago in the future that is slightly less expensive and tastes significantly better.

Charli V.

Yelp
Finally got to try multiple things from HLS. The best times to go are daytime or early evening on weekdays. Lol... This popular place gets slammed on the weekends and after dinner hours. But somehow they have implemented a great system for ordering and waiting. Outdoor seating is rough.. there are a ton of mosquitos at night in this area. Probably a better idea to sit in your car than the patio if you can't get a spot to sit inside. I've ordered the coconut jelly with chewy balls and a mango coconut sago drink. The coconut jelly was not sweet enough, in my opinion but the mangos have been consistently sweet and refreshing! Prices range for each item but pretty reasonable as you aren't going to be making these things for yourself as easily! So happy to have this dessert option in ATX.

Patrick W.

Yelp
Hey, there's a line going out the store. It must be good. Let's try that place! That's our experience whenever it's a good try or restaurant that is trending. Really don't mind the wait. We have a formula of working out the mine thing. Not gunna share sorry. Lots of Asians showing up today. It's a sign that we are in for a treat. MANGO is in the menu. You can smell it as you enter and almost taste its' sweetness in the air. A crowded scene this afternoon. So many different types of desserts available. Glad we showed up!

Braden J.

Yelp
Man do I love Hui Lau Shan, and does the Austin location lives up to the hype. Bottom line if you like mangos in any form you'll like this place. They even have much more options than I recall from other locations I've been to. Atmosphere: Small simple cafe, with counter service. Lines will get long during primetime so be prepared. Food: Of course the real winners. If you like any form of mangos they got it, desserts, tea, puddings. If anything suits your fancy get it, but I recommend the Mango drink with a bit of passion fruit as well as the Mango crystal. Mango mochi and the coconut dessert as honorable mention. Service: Counter top service so nothing really special, they'll call your name when the order is ready. I'm being very bias again for my love for the fruit, but if you enjoy these fruits and this kind of treat, this is a must go to.

Allison C.

Yelp
Lines are still out the door for Hui Lau Shan soft opening so pray the end of it is still inside in the AC so you aren't waiting in this Texas heat. They were really efficient and the food comes out fairly quickly. Not all menu items were available but we went with the Mango Romance ( basically a sampler of everything) and the Mango Coconut Duo. At around $8 an item, I was pretty disappointed in the portion sizes of the to go containers. It definitely is smaller than the online menu pictures and the display at the front of the store. They made up for it with mango flavorbomb desserts. The desserts were not too sweet and perfectly refreshing for the summer. I didn't love the texture of the chewy balls, they seemed to have hardened and lost their QQ texture which makes me think they have been sitting for a while.

Grace L.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try out this place since I heard it opened. So happy to know it was next door to where we were having lunch so we hopped on over after lunch. It was busy but no lines. The menu was slightly complicated because we had many that couldn't do dairy in the group and many who have not been here nor tried anything remotely close to the items listed. We took our time but a line was forming so we had to be quick. We called the worker behind the counter and she was nice and helpful telling us there are essentially 4 desserts that are dairy free. The rest has milk. Oh well busting out the lactose pills lol We ordered, 3 drinks all dairy free. The mango passion fruit and passion fruit green tea. Not sure they liked it. They said it was to thick and the passionfruit seeds were hard to not swallow. And the goo gel clumped in the bottom making it hard to drink. Another person also ordered their mango special that had a little mix of everything. Idk if they thought we said to go but everything was packaged so cutely. The ice cream was ok. The goo clump again was unique and odd lol reminded me of snot. The mochi was mochi. I got the rice balls and taro in milk. It tasted like coconut milk. I wonder if it was because in that case it's really not dairy. I am a big rice balls fan and make my own. I was disappointed because the rice balls weren't soft. How can they make that wrong? It was edible just not gooey soft like I like it. The taro too was good but couple were not done and in huge chunks and too hard. The sago in milk was good but everything is just so small. For the price it felt too small. All our deserts costed nearly $50 and that's because the payee accidentally pressed 18% tip. That seemed way too high a tip since they just pretty much brought out or dished out the desserts not sure if they were the ones making them all in the back by hand. Anyways I am glad I tried and wish I can give them more stars. But felt the price didn't justify the product at least what we ordered and had. No one raved about it and it's really just mango and cheap rice balls. The mochi and ice cream wasn't anything too too special and can be bought elsewhere. The whole place is cute but small and quaint. Not too much seating especially if it got packed. They have lemon water if you got thirsty which I appreciated. So I was slightly disappointed with the entire experience because I really wanted to like it. The price point is a tad high to justify I believe. Just wanted more

Yelp
THE BIG: Hong Kong mango dessert shop in the "new chinatown" district of Austin near the 99 Ranch grocery store. Small space and there's always a line out the door. Parking is available in the lot for 2 hrs. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here around 7pm and the line was already out the door. When we left the shop, the line was even longer! Crazy. Total wait time was around 20 minutes for us. We ordered the Mango chewy ball and the mango mochi balls (comes in 6s). I'm always afraid that the mango sourced isn't ripe and sweet enough but here that wasn't a problem. It was very sweet and had a good portion of mango fruit in everything. The sago balls seemed hand made because of how much glutinous rice flower there were. THE FINAL BAMBOO: The damage done for the mango mochi balls and the mango chewy ball was ~$20. Overall a nice place to unwind for delicious mango desserts.

Minh D.

Yelp
Tried a few more items from Hui Lau Shan: - Sweet Potato soup with osmanthus 7.5/10 - Mango Coconut Jelly 9/10 - Mango Sago with Pomelo 7.5/10 They extended their soft opening hour to 10pm now!

Crystal L.

Yelp
I have been waiting to try Hui Lau Shan since all the ATX Asian foodie groups have been yelling this mango dessert opening from the rooftops and it's finally happened! For our mango aficionados - don't fret, you have an amazing refreshing summer dessert treat at our disposal for sweet eats and many drink options too. If you're not a mango lover like my toddler, well consider yourself lucky that they do have a strawberry yogurt smoothie option lol. But otherwise, your selection will be quite limited. Although they have been in soft opening because the lines have been out the door, when we went Sunday evening, the inside was packed but the line was tolerable aka inside. We parked in the garage which is complimentary for 2 hours - ordered our selection and quickly received our entire order. Gosh, they were swift for the volume of people they were dealing with and they did not look frazzled handling the crowd. I can't wait to return again and again, my Mango bowl was such a hit especially with the soft mochi balls, and sago balls. I'm still drooling and want to go back - but also realize I need to tone it down to make sure my summer body lasts lol. Yay for yummy refreshing treats in Austin!

Erika N.

Yelp
I'm not a mango person but a recent visit on a hot summer day changed my mind. It's a somewhat small dessert joint, with friendly staff and a giant menu dedicated almost entirely to mango themed desserts. I tried the dessert with the coconut noodles. The mangos were tart which was fine for me. The coconut noodles were a nice contrast due to the mild flavor and lovely chewy texture. The staff was also very friendly and nice. I will definitely be back in the future.

Kenny N.

Yelp
Mango lovers, rejoice! This place is a must-visit if you're craving a sweet treat and mango is your favorite fruit. The service is quick, and they prepare most of your dishes right away. The interior is cozy, with a few tables where you can savor your dessert. They offer a variety of drinks and other desserts, not just mango-based ones. And for those chilly evenings, they have hot desserts to warm you up. However, parking is limited in the area, so be prepared to walk or take public transportation. Also, keep in mind that the desserts can be quite pricey.

Lisa O.

Yelp
The wait was 25 minutes out the door. Two customers vehemently warned me against the mango swirl. They said, "It was bland, bitter, fibrous, and had a weird aftertaste." Thanks for the warning! I ordered the passion fruit mango icy, and it was perfectly sweetened. It tasted better than a mangonada because it wasn't too sweet. My husband ordered the mango sago, which was also not too sweet. My only wish is that their menu designated items containing dairy. I think most everything on the menu was dairy free except items containing ice cream.

Raquel M.

Yelp
The best (and only) sago spot in Austin! As someone who has lived in San Francisco and gone to some of the best sago spots, this one is awesome. Love the energy and the interior. Taste: so freaking good! The dude helped me figure out their menu and it was full of yumminess! Service was 10 out of 10. - mango sago - 10 out of 10 - red bean pudding - 8 out of 10

Yelp
If you're looking for a fresh spot for dessert, Hai Lau Shan is the place to got! We waited in line for about 15 min on a Friday evening around 7:30p. After 8, the line was very long. My husband and I shared the mango chewy and mango mochi. Both were incredible! The mango was ripe and fresh, which made the dessert. The sago in the mango chewy is very thing, so be prepared. The mango mochi had fresh mango inside. It was an amazing surprise! Highly recommend, so long as the mango is ripe when you order!

Sana A.

Yelp
I've been to the Austin location three times now, each time bringing someone new to share how amazing this place is! As a mango lover, this is hands-down my favorite dessert spot ever. I've tried so many things on the menu, and I keep coming back to the mango chewy ball (with extra mango instead of the coconut balls--absolute perfection). The mango coconut ice cream in the middle is unbelievably delicious! I also tried the mango yogurt drink, which initially tasted like a deconstructed mango lassi until I mixed it. One time, I was tempted by one of the teas on display, and even though the cashier warned me, I still gave it a shot. Let's just say I regretted that one, but hey, you live and learn! Now, I just stick to the mango bowls--they never disappoint. The ambience is great too there is usually plenty of seating and a clean bathroom. I've also been to the Houston location, which is just as amazing. The only downside is parking--it's such a struggle. One time, I parked in the garage across the street and ended up with a flat tire. I have SO many photos of this place but the new photos update on the iphone makes them impossible to find :(

Kara M.

Yelp
So, so excited this dessert spot specializing in all things mango and coconut opened up! Right next to Bamboo House and across from 99 Ranch, it's a perfect location to grab before or after dinner and shopping in the area. Everything is made in-house and is fresh! Current soft opening hours are 4-9pm daily. Overall, it's a must-try if you love all things mango. Pricing is also very reasonable, and portions are generous and shareable! We showed up 30 mins. before they opened on a Friday afternoon. We were the first to arrive, but by 3:45 and closer to 4pm, it quickly became a packed, long line. Ample parking in the area. We ordered and sat inside to eat, and were in and out in 20-25 mins.! They operate very efficiently. The space is small, so not a lot of indoor seating is available, but they package everything so nicely to easily take to go. FOOD RATINGS: - Mango Romance (4/5): Perfect if you want to try a little of everything. Includes 1 mochi piece, a mini mango crystal jelly, and a mini mango chewy ball. - Mango Delightful Trio (3/5): Red bean paste, mango, and coconut. Good if you enjoy red bean. I kind of expected it to be herbal jelly, and it would have been better if it was, but overall not bad. - Mango & Coconut with Sago (5/5): My favorite item! Refreshing and tasty and the sago was so good and plentiful. Easy to mix and drink. Fresh mango pieces and coconut slushy. - Aloe & Aloe Jelly in Watermelon Juice (3/5): Refreshing and not too sweet. A lot of aloe but very cool if you enjoy aloe.

Yelp
If you haven't heard yet, Hui Lau Shan is now here in Austin! I think this is a great time for Austin to have a Hong Kong desserts place because there has been an increase in Asian food establishments recently and this store is at a great location too! It's right next to Bamboo House, and close to the 99 Ranch plaza. You can park in the garage free for the first two hours (no need to validate). They have a soft opening right now so they're open everyday 4pm-9pm. Wait times are long-I waited about 30 minutes but it's completely worth it! Their mango drinks are so good. They also offer mochi and mango desserts. I highly recommend the D4 drink, Mango & Coconut with Sago.

Christina T.

Yelp
We have gone here a few times and I have to say that some of the items are really hit or misses for me. The items I recommend are the mango pudding, the pomelo & mango with sago and the mango mochi. But unfortunately the most recent time we went the mango mochi was not good. There was only a single piece of sour unripe mango in each of them which was a shame because we purchased 2 boxes. It's usually very soft and sweet inside so we were quite disappointed. The mango swirl we've tried twice now and both times tasted so floral that it was almost soap-y.

Ly N.

Yelp
The one place I've always wished but never imagined would ever come to Austin! This is my all time favorite dessert spot. If you're a huge mango lover, I'm positive this is the perfect spot for you. My favorite items are the black rice coconut pudding, mango mochi chewy balls, and pomelo & mango with sago. There's plenty of parking nearby but spots fill up quick during prime hours. Although there's a good amount of seating inside and outside, the spots fill up quick and it's always busy whenever I go.

Suki Z.

Yelp
Now that Hui Lau Shan has had their grand opening, I am excited to visit again! I arrived at 4 PM (at the start of soft opening time) and there was already a long line of patrons waiting for their mango treats. They have some desserts on display near the front glass so you can get excited to place your order. Inside the store, there were a couple of tables and couch areas but since I went while it was still soft opening the seats were packed already. There was also some complimentary lemon infused water that I took advantage of as soon as I was able to squeeze into the store. Their mangos were very fresh and it was exciting for me to see a massive bowl of pre cut mangos ready for them to use. I got the Mango Romance (the "sampler" menu item) and my favorite was definitely the mochi. I didn't particularly care for the Mango Chewy ball (I didn't think there was much flavor) but it could be possible that I wasn't mixing it enough. The coconut flakes for the mango mochi definitely lifted the flavor as a whole. Next time I look forward to trying out their sweet soups at a time where it is less busy.

Yelp
Man, I'm trying to be more hyped for this place but my first impression was just pretty mediocre...to where my friend and I really only drank half of our drinks -- and I'm usually someone who really finishes something I order. Very high levels of jellies, which were then also very chewy. A bit weirdly inconvenient to get through as far as jelly drinks go. A second issue...I'm not sure if the workers were mistaken, but they said that every drink with coconut milk had dairy in it? That vastly limited my options, when most of these drinks are non-dairy at other places.

Yelp
Went here on a Wednesday early evening. Luckily there was a short line but definitely got longer while we were eating. I was surprised by how small the place is given its popularity and hype. I forgot the name of what we ordered--I think it was a mango chewy ball. Much smaller than I was expecting but truly flavorful of mango. I know it's currently in season so I wonder how this place does outside of mango season. I also wasn't expecting it to be all in to-go containers, felt a bit wasteful but maybe makes sense with the small shop and lines. They had displays of the food near the front so I was expecting it to be served differently. Overall good but a bit pricey and not worth waiting in line. It's getting hot in the summer and it doesn't feel like it would be enjoyable outside in the heat if you can't find seating. Love the branding though, so cute.

Yelp
Hui Lau Shan, welcome to Austin! We decided to give it a shot and didn't realize that these days they were having a soft opening, and long lines and wait times come with soft openings, right? Yes long lines and busy-ness ambiance, but no wait times for us on a Friday evening! Off to a great start! The dessert shop is located across an apartment complex area so parking can be a bit weird and challenging to find. I don't think I'd want to swing by during rush hour for example because I would think a lot of cars would be coming in and out of the area and that kind of chaos is not my cup of tea. We ordered the Mango Chewy Ball to share and it was more than enough! Each ingredient on its own was great, but taking a scoop of the milk chewy balls, the ice cream, mango puree, and fresh diced mangoes all together was even better! The fresh mango was the perfect level of sweetness that you want in a mango which was the highlight for me. The chewy balls - there's something about them in general that I like and I don't like about them, the chewiness texture makes me want to go back for more but the lack of flavor makes me want to go for something else instead. Yes there are some items that are unavailable right now because of their soft opening, but I'd still give it a shot and come back to try those other items or perhaps a smoothie or the mochi. We sat outside because it was pretty crowded indoors (small spacing by the way), but our order was ready in less than 5 minutes so we were able to freshen ourselves up from the Texas heat with this tasty treat! We'd come back!

Yelp
I got the mango & coconut sago drink, which was my go to. It was great! The mango is perhaps a little less good than in HK, but that's honestly an impossible bar here in the US. But the mango chunks in my drink were perfectly ripe and sweet. I wonder how they will maintain that throughout the year. My only complaint is that the drink seems to be quite a bit colder here than what I had in HK. Normally I love cold but the problem is that it makes the sago harden up after a few minutes, affecting texture. So maybe don't mix the drink fully and mix in the sago only as you are about to drink it? Tbf, I've noticed this issue in other mango dessert shops in the US. I also got the durian black glutinous rice (opted for the cold version). Loved this too! The rice was perfectly "not too sweet" and I was very happy with how much durian there was (you can't see in the picture well -- what's showing is just the tip). Durian was creamy, sweet and delicious, for those who enjoy durian. Went for this first day of soft opening and was impressed with how they were handling it considering the long line.

Yelp
This place is sooo cute!!! And delicious of course!! You will be walking into a very busy place of business so be prepared to have little standing room. If that's not your cup of tea, then it's probably best to order and walk outside since they have outdoor seating. The indoor seating is nice but again, it's pretty packed and people showed up in larger groups which took most of the seating. The menu is full of some awesome options so I'll definitely be back soon to try some other items but the Mango Delightful Trio + the Mango Chewy Ball were so, so, so, so good! 10/10 recommend both options. The lady who took our order was super friendly and was helpful in giving recommendations. Most of the staff we interacted with were super friendly and welcoming. Overall great experience and a great spot to get a refreshing snack so stop by if you're in the area!

Yelp
Super jazzed about this place as someone who loves mangos AND dessert from Hong Kong! Prices are very reasonable for the portion size and quality of ingredients including fresh fruit - drinks are around $6.50, which is extremely competitive with boba shops in Austin. We came on a weekday evening near closing time and the line was still out the door but moved fairly quickly. Not every item on the menu was available at this time, but they did still have a large selection of drinks, desserts, etc. to choose from. I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
This place is currently (as of 6/11/2024) undergoing a soft opening, currently open only after 4pm. They seem to only be serving a portion of their menu. When you take a physical menu, there will be stickers covering the items that they are not serving. However, if you opt to read their menu from the display screens above, there will be no such indication that certain items are not available. This place is counter serve. You order at the register. After you pay, they will provide a numbered pager that will alert you when your order is ready for retrieval. If you wish to sit, there exists a small seating area between the window display case and the cashier. If you are looking for bathrooms, those are down the hallway. It's pretty clear certain items are pre-made. You can see them in the refrigerated display case by the cashier, along with a very sad "mango of the month". Their mango mochi is an example of a pre-made item. It comes in a 6-pack, with each mochi topped with some coconut, and the internals filled with mango. I ordered one of those. I also ordered an "Egg Waffle with Mango Ice Cream" (item C13), but it seemed they did not have that item available. I decided to go with the mango romance, which appears to be some type of sampler. It has some mango, some mango ice cream, some clear gelatin-like substance, a mango mochi, and mango pudding? jelly? purée? with white balls. The most tasteful item was the mango mochi. The remaining items were not overly sweet, nor were they particularly mangoey. In fact, they were rather bland: just imagine the taste of cold, canned mangoes. I mean, I don't think they use canned mangoes, but I can't say they are serving fresh mangoes either. They have clearly been sitting in a fridge or cold room for a while. If you want mangoes, you'll have better luck going to a grocery store, picking out a nice, ripe, fragrant mango and preparing it yourself at home. It'll be more succulent, fresher, and more sweet (or more sour), and definitely more mangoey than what they present to you at this establishment. I'd recommend slicing off the sides, cutting small cubes, then simply scooping with a spoon. However, it's nice to know they have a batch of ice water with lemon in it, along with plastic cups, to aid your hydration. Another note: the spoon packaging is odd. So, I think you open them like toothpaste--squeeze at the bottom and the rounded part of the spoon will come out at the top.

Yelp
This is the place for mango lovers!

Yelp
Hui Lau Shan is my favorite dessert spot in Houston, so imagine my delight when I found out they opened one in Austin! The restaurant is located in a tiny shopping center right next to The Crescent, so it's a perfect spot to stop at after dinner. I will say parking is a little difficult with how popular they are right now, so be sure to carpool if possible. Like others have mentioned, they are currently in their soft opening phase and are super popular. The first time I went there was no line, but the second time I did have to wait about 15 minutes to order. The desserts come out pretty quickly though, so don't be discouraged even if there is a little bit of a line! So far, I have tried: - Mango Chewy Ball: This is like a mango puree topped with mango ice cream, mangos, and chewy rice balls. It's super fruity! The chewy rice balls are the best part. - Mango Romance: This is a sampler with small portions of Mango Chewy Ball, Mango Crystal Jelly, and one Mango Mochi. I think this is a great item to order if you just want to taste a bit of everything on the mango menu! I personally liked the mango mochi the best out of the three. - Coconut Jelly with Mango: This is the best menu item without question. The coconut jelly is slightly creamy and not too sweet, and is sooooo good with the super ripe mangos, chewy rice balls, and crystal jelly on top. All of the textures and flavors mix together perfectly. This was always my favorite in Houston so I order one every time I come in and it never disappoints! Overall, I'm so glad Hui Lau Shan is in Austin now! I've never had a bad item from the menu, and I don't think you can go wrong with anything here if you like mango. Like I mentioned, I highly recommend the Coconut Jelly with Mango if you're not sure what to order. They make all of their mochi and mango items fresh every day and it really shows in the food quality. I'm sure I'll be back here often!

Yelp
Such a delicious treat. So glad this spot opened up. Mango mochi was so good, as well as the coconut pudding - rich and creamy without being overly sweet. Can't wait to return

Yelp
Super refreshing desserts that aren't too sweet! Everything is heavily mango but everything is also heavily delicious so... The mango drinks have a lot of great and different textures which I love. It serves as not only a drink, but also a snack due to all of the different toppings inside. And the mango pudding was so creamy and smooth. It was a little denser than I expected but not necessarily a bad thing! And I loved that the mango pudding also had some mango chunks inside. All of the mango was sweet and juicy. But I am interested to see if the quality changes when it's not mango season!

Yelp
I freaking love mangoes, and I love Hui Lau Shan. I've only been to the Houston location, and it made me so sad that only Houston had HLS. However, my hometown of Dallas and my current home both opened locations!! I'm so happy. There are huge lines every day at HLS. I thought the hype and craze would die down after a week, but nope. There are still lines out the door every evening. Fortunately, my friends and I came at the perfect time and there was only a super long line after us. We waited for about 20-25 minutes? The line moved fast and we got our order quickly. I highly recommend getting: - taro sago - ask for it hot! I love the little tangyuan balls, and the sago + taro are so good. It reminds me of a really popular Chinese dessert soup - mango pomelo sago drink - they put so many toppings in. I really enjoyed it and it was super refreshing - mango mochi balls - I've tried these at the Houston location, and they are SO good. I always have to order at least two boxes to bring home for little sweet treats. Please be patient with them! Mangoes are ripe right now, and they taste SO good. This is definitely going to be my new favorite dessert shop. The Asian food scene in Austin is on the come up! So excited.

Yelp
I couldn't believe my ears when I heard this place opened in Austin. Although this place is tiny, the quality of the dessert made up for it. It's consistent with the one in Houston in terms of quality, presentation, sweetness and overall taste. I ordered my all time favorite which is mango coconut with sago. Be prepared to wait in a long line, but it goes by fairly quickly. 5:30pm is about the sweet spot. Not too crowded at this time. The line gets so long that it kinda snakes around the tables and chairs inside so it's a bit chaotic for the ordering and finding seats. The cashiers are fast and efficient and serves with a smile. Thank you for coming to Austin!

Yelp
Definitely will be back for the mango mochi. Had A4 mango chewy ball. Essential it was a bowl of mango purée, mango chunks, scoop of mango ice cream, and mochi rice balls. Obvi is it very mango forward and mangos weren't super sweet. Next time I'm gonna try C8 coconut jelly with mango. Inside is very small with very limited seating. I think there were 4 tables. Store front parking but there's also garage parking free for the first 2 hrs. Came during their soft opening! They currently have limited hours so check before going!
