"I've watched this farmers market staple grow into a brick-and-mortar: Semilla is officially open at 218 President St., serving tacos, rice bowls, and other contemporary Mexican fare. The team announced the opening on Instagram with a photo of the pretty-in-pink dining room. The concept grew out of siblings Jill Schenzel and Macready Downer's earlier plan to renovate an abandoned property at 223 St. Philip St. into a restaurant called Seed; when that deal didn't work out they launched Semilla as a food truck in 2016 to get the concept off the ground and save money, and today that idea comes to fruition on the Westside.
