"When it debuted in April 2017 in Sunset Park’s Industry City, I watched Avocaderia elevate Brooklyn’s avocado obsession with a menu of all-avocado everything—avocado toasts, avocado-topped bowls and salads, avocado-based smoothies, avocado-chocolate mousse, and an “avo-burger” that uses avocado as buns with a smoked-salmon “patty.” Founded by Italian avocado enthusiasts Francesco Brachetti, Alberto Gramini, and Alessandro Biggi, the team aims to build a fast-casual chain and even secured investors after Biggi appeared on Shark Tank (episode aired Feb. 11), where Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran each invested $200,000, valuing the company at $2 million. Despite avocado shortages—the restaurant famously ran out of ripe avocados within three hours of opening—they’re expanding: a Chelsea location is under construction at Terminal Warehouse, 271 11th Ave. (between West 27th and 28th), set to open this spring; the owners plan 20 new NYC locations followed by expansion to Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami, and Texas, and they’ve signed a cookbook deal expected in December 2018." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya
