"A century-old bakery at 308 E. 78th Street, at Second Avenue, was purchased by Brooklyn-based real estate company Peak Capital for $14.6 million, Crain’s reports. Abram Orwasher, the grandson of founder Abraham Orwasher, sold the property. Crain’s reports that it’s "unclear" what Peak’s plans are for the building’s 35 rental apartments or its 3,250-square-foot commercial space occupied by the bakery and the restaurant Heidi’s House. Founded in 1916 and known for its black-and-white cookies, babka, and rugelach, as well as breads like rye and pumpernickel, the bakery remained in the family until 2008 when Keith Cohen bought it and expanded to the Upper West Side and beyond beginning in 2016." - Melissa McCart
