"After an 11-year absence, Da Kine’s Plate Lunches has reopened as a brick-and-mortar eatery on Linda Vista Road; founded in 1997 by Hawaiian native Nelson Ishii (aka “Uncle Nelson”), it spent the last decade operating as a catering outfit before reopening due to popular demand. The original menu is back, featuring Ishii’s teriyaki chicken with his signature sauce, smoked kalua pork served with shredded cabbage, chicken katsu, Korean-style ribs, baked fish, classic loco moco, Spam musubi, and Polynesian-style mashed taro; all plate lunches come with two scoops of steamed white rice and a choice of macaroni salad or a green salad. A grand opening with half-off plate lunches is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, and regular hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday." - Candice Woo
