"Portlanders will soon be able to eat Din Tai Fung’s famous xiao long bao in the heart of downtown: the Taiwan-based chain is planning an 11,000‑square-foot restaurant within Pioneer Place mall that will serve steamer baskets full of bao and dumplings. Business records and a tweet from Iain Mackenzie first signaled the move, and local operating partner David Wasielewski confirmed the location and a 2023 opening, estimating the restaurant will seat about 250 — one of the biggest Din Tai Fungs he operates — and saying, “We really believe in the local community…so we think we’ll use every inch.” Brookfield Properties’ Pioneer Place team says it has pursued Din Tai Fung for years and finally reached a deal. The brand itself is long known as one of the world’s best spots for soup dumplings (xiao long bao), once earning a Michelin star for a Hong Kong location, and traces back to Bing‑Yi Yang opening a cooking‑oil shop in 1958 before reopening as a restaurant in the 1970s and growing into a global brand; this Pioneer Place restaurant would be the chain’s second Oregon location." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
