"Maciel’s Plant-Based Butcher & Deli combines Mexican influences with classic deli touches, representing a culmination of Bañales Luna’s lifelong dedication to health, nutrition, and environmental stewardship. The 1,000-square-foot storefront is built for both takeout and lingering, with half a dozen seats inside and more along the sidewalk. The shop offers cold cuts made from ingredients like chickpeas, vegetables, seitan, tofu, spices, and brines, as well as a line of spreadable cheeses including cashew-based camembert, nacho, and jalapeno cheddar. Sandwiches combine Bañales Luna’s meats and cheeses with breads from Rockenwagner Bakery, and the menu includes sides, aguas frescas, jarred salsas, and dessert." - Cathy Chaplin
