Mellow Mushroom in Decatur Closes Suddenly | Eater Atlanta
"The downtown Decatur pizzeria closed abruptly on June 16 after a social-media announcement; it had been operating for nine years at 340 West Ponce de Leon Avenue. Co-owner Harvey Brown told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that heavy local competition made the location financially unsustainable, and an Instagram post from Brown expressed a heavy heart, gratitude to the community, and sadness at losing the ability to be residents’ go-to pizza spot. This is the chain’s second shutdown in Decatur—the previous location closed in 2014 before the business reopened and relocated in 2016 under Brown’s ownership, replacing the New Orleans SnoBall Cafe. Nearly 50 staff members were informed of the closure, and Brown has been attempting to help them find new employment; the parent chain is Atlanta-based with more than 160 locations nationwide." - Henna Bakshi
