"Perched 902 feet high on the 73rd floor of the Columbia Tower after a $25 million renovation, the Sky View Observatory delivers a completely fresh experience with new food and drink menus paired with full 360-degree views (up from the previous roughly 270-degree panorama). Visitors enter through a new atrium at 700 4th Avenue and ride a direct-access elevator that bypasses offices; the 70-second trip includes an animation of Mount Rainier’s history. When the elevator doors open, views of downtown, the waterfront, and the mountains are magnetic, and displays at various vantage points explain what guests are seeing and offer tips on taking photos through the glass. The menu features new dining options such as Pacific lox on an everything bagel, a seared salmon Cobb salad, and a salami and hot honey flatbread, plus crowd-pleasing snacks like crab-stuffed mushrooms and a cheese board, salads, sandwiches and flatbreads, kid-friendly chicken fingers and small flatbreads, and desserts including a root beer float and strawberry rhubarb shortcake. Beverage offerings include Washington and Oregon wines, Washington draft and bottled beer, cocktails made with Washington spirits—highlighted by the Seattle 73, a 73rd-floor take on the French 75 made with huckleberries—and Rachel’s Ginger Beer as the sole non-alcoholic option. Regular admission is $20 online; hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend, then 10 a.m. to 8 p.m." - Megan Hill
