"As one of the more exciting openings in town before COVID reached Washington, I was pleased to see Reveler’s Hour, the Adams Morgan pasta and wine bar from Tail Up Goat owners Jill Tyler, Jon Sybert, and Bill Jensen, add outdoor seating for the first time by taking over a private parking lot behind the Imperial condo. Called Reveler’s Hour at the Lot, it adds 11 tables for parties of up to four where guests can order canned wines curated by Jensen as well as takeout containers full of pastas, wood-grilled snacks, and other casual comfort foods overseen by Sybert (a finalist at this year’s James Beard non-awards). I expect many will order the brioche burgers ($16) made with beef from dairy cows — a plain jane with special sauce, lettuce, tomato, and onion, or a spicy version with fermented chile rub and hot aioli — or the fried chicken platters ($35–$75) that come with biscuits, veggie sides, pickles, and a shareable dessert. Snacks on the menu include an eggplant Parm and a panzanella crostini; desserts from new pastry chef Annie Coleman feature a cherry clafoudis semifreddo and gelatos ($3 a scoop) in flavors like roasted sweet corn or caramelized pistachio custard, and there are floats (coffee or soda) with suggested combos such as blueberry sorbet with Pellegrino limonata. Jensen is picking canned wines grouped in eclectic categories (examples include “There’s Something About Mary” and “From the Former Eastern Bloc”) and will sell bottles from a daytime retail shop that also offers sandwiches and sweets to go; bottles can be sold with plastic cups for outdoor service. The lot allows the restaurant to hire back staff eager to introduce guests to wines, and Jensen says he wants the Lot to take after Bacchanal’s popular outdoor-drinking vibe. Reservations are available Thursday through Saturday via Resy (then online at 10 a.m. Mondays after the weekend), tables have a 1 hour, 45 minute limit, and a 22 percent service fee is included on checks in lieu of tips." - Gabe Hiatt
