Ar Har Ya - Review - Financial District - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"While most Burmese restaurants are on the west side of the city, office people and those east of Van Ness should rely on Ar Har Ya in the Financial District. This mostly takeout spot makes fantastic curries and salads, including the classic tea leaf. Curries here are as thick, heavy, and comforting as an edible weighted blanket. Choose from chicken, beef, pork, or seafood, and adjust for your preferred spice level. Our favorite is the pork with pickled mango with chunks of sour fruit that balance out the curry's fattiness. Each order comes with jasmine rice, but we recommend paying the extra dollar for the coconut rice, which is fluffier and adds a barely-there sweetness. Just don’t skip the tea leaf salad. It’s huge and can easily moonlight as an entree for two people. Mounds of fermented tea leaves, roasted peanuts, tomatoes, garlic chips, and jalapeños get tossed together and topped off with a perfect hard-boiled egg. And if your yearning for a great tea leaf salad can’t wait until you get home, there are two small tables and a few barstools where you can eat." - Patrick Wong
