Pahal Zan

Mediterranean restaurant · Forest Hills

"Pahal Zan, a kosher Middle Eastern spot tucked under the elevated LIRR tracks, is one of our favorite options for quick, healthy-ish takeout in Forest Hills. The glass display case inside this tiny restaurant takes up nearly as much space as the actual standing room. It’s full of salads in a satisfying variety of colors and textures, spreads (try the extra smoky baba ghanoush), and marinated meats as appealing as the contents of any jewelry box. Get the falafel—crispy on the outside, wonderfully soft on the side—as a platter, or the beef shish kebab with an amazing crust from the grill in a pita. Whatever permutation of protein and veg you choose, order it fully loaded, with whatever the staff recommends. You won’t be disappointed. photo credit: Molly Fitzpatrick photo credit: Molly Fitzpatrick photo credit: Molly Fitzpatrick" - Molly Fitzpatrick
