"Berliner Berliner is a counter-service spot where Rosemunde Sausage Grill used to be. It’s nice to see that the tradition of grilling meats in the Lower Haight lives to see another day. If you have at least 15 minutes to kill, this sausage spot is amazing. While they grill your order grab a beer from Toronado next door as you wait for your choice of beer brats, pretzels with goat cheese and honey dips, or maybe even a Berlin-style döner. Soon, you’ll relish in a world full of giant pickles, sauerkraut, and currywurst. photo credit: Melissa Zink Food Rundown photo credit: Melissa Zink Smoked Beer Sausage & Bratwurst The smoked beer sausage and bratwurst constitute two of the many sausage options on the menu, and are two of our favorites. This is charred heaven covered in your choice of fixings. We recommend trying them topped with any combination of sauerkraut, sweet peppers, mango chutney, and sweet relish. photo credit: Melissa Zink Berliner Döner The döner at Berliner Berliner comes in two forms, Haight Street or Berliner. We recommend the Berliner with a pork sausage spiced like a Turkish döner and packed high with tomatoes, cucumber, onions, cabbage, and feta. Although the Haight Street version with lemon chicken can also hold its own. photo credit: Melissa Zink Berliner Currywurst Currywurst can be decisive. Some love it and some love to hate it. We love it. A hot dog-like sausage is sliced into wedges and then covered in ketchup mixed with curry ketchup. This rendition is perfectly cooked and easily devourable. Golden Pretzel A fun little pretzel (in spirit, not in size) with just a bit of salt on top. Get the bavarian mustard, which is the most pungent mustard we’ve ever had, full stop. The goat cheese and honey dipping sauce also adds a nice counterbalance. photo credit: Melissa Zink Mighty Potato This is a perfectly normal baked potato with your choice of fixings. The last time we were here they only had sour cream and chives left—two excellent choices for your perfectly normal baked potato." - Ricky Rodriguez
