"If Everson Royce Bar got married, moved to South Pasadena, and started volunteering at the library, you’d get Cannonball, the settled-down sibling of one of our favorite Arts District bars. The two spots share owners—as well as an excellent burger and buttermilk biscuits—but that’s about it. Cannonball’s split-level dining room feels more like a neighborhood mixer for people who remember ringback tones, with parents planning playdates over bourbon cocktails and fried calamari. Snacky dishes like fideo with clams and crispy chorizo, or a shaved celery and date salad, are unfussy and delicious, and the hundred-bottle-plus wine list is worth a deep dive. If your ideal night out ends with sending the babysitter home a little early and being in bed at a reasonable hour, Cannonball is nirvana." - Brant Cox
