"There isn’t anyplace else in SF like Mariposas. At thisSoMaPeruvian spot, you’ll get to eat in an AstroTurfed dining room with bird cage-shaped chairs, walls of fake vines and light-up butterfly wings, and a vintage pommel horse that doubles as bar seating. The food is less memorable, though. The ceviche clásico pulls its punches with lackluster seasoning, for example, and on two occasions our quinoa chaufa was slightly burnt. But the rotisserie chicken, rightly recommended by the staff, is the standout. Our favorite way to enjoy it is in the arroz con pollo, which comes with a mound of delicious cilantro rice. While Mariposas isn’t among thebest Peruvian restaurantsin the city, it will certainly do in a pinch, especially when you’re in the area. This place always has a free table for lunch or dinner—just be sure to set aside a bit of time, as service moves at an unhurried pace." - Patrick Wong
