Sterrato Italian Specialties - Review - South Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Stationed behind Still Austin Whiskey Co. on St. Elmo Road, the food trailer Sterrato Italian Specialties gives old-school Italian dishes an Asian spin. Their spaghetti has gochujang and black sesame, their fritto misto is doused in shoyu lemon aioli, and their italian sandwich comes with Kewpie mayo and olive kosho. All of them are flavorful and reasonably priced. Those twists are Sterrato’s strong suit, but there’s also a more traditional pepperoni or sausage pizza (sold by the pie or the slice) that’s pretty good if you’d rather stick to the basics. Still Austin’s secluded patio is a pleasant place to split a bunch of Sterrato’s menu with a small group. Food Rundown Shiro Dashi Caesar This is the only caesar we’ve encountered that has katsuobushi, crispy garlic, and green apple slices, which together make the salad especially refreshing. photo credit: RICHARD CASTEEL Sando Al Italia It can’t compete with Knuckle Sandwich down the road or Home Slice Pizza across town, but Sterrato’s wood-fired italian sandwich is doing its own tasty thing with the help of Kewpie mayo and castelvetrano kosho. It’s also smaller and less hoagie-ish than those other italian subs, which leaves room to try more dishes. photo credit: RICHARD CASTEEL Pepperoni Pizza Sterrato’s cupped pepperoni slices provide a nice, thick texture to what is ultimately a classic pizza. Between this place and The Pizza Den, South Austin’s pie game is on the rise.
